Now, I know this is a little off the wall, and a lot of people will probably flame me for this, but hear me out.

Think of everything you have to do in order to make it to this being. You have to defeat Jailers, who have imprisoned the different virtues. Those are fairly evil creatures, jailing things like love so nobody can have it.

But once Absolute Virtue comes on the scene, nothing really bad happens. You freed the creature by defeating all the Jailers.

Yet, for such a powerful creature, why doesn't it attack?

Now, for the controversial part.

What if he's not supposed to be fought? A friend of mine gave this theory to me, and I thought it made a little bit of sense. Maybe AV is a good creature, something to be kept alive, instead of destroyed.

I don't have any kind of proof about this, and I do not know how long after AV spawns until it de-spawns. However, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some reason he exists other than drop a rod that gives RR3.

He doesn't do anything until someone attacks him. And then he totally destroys whoever attacks. Maybe there's another purpose for him. Anybody ever tried trading a Virtue weapon to him? Like, all the virtues at the same time? There is a quest early on in the game where you must light 7 candles for 7 sins, and then 7 monsters, each named for a deadly sin, appear. Perhaps AV is not the end. Maybe he's used to spawn other things.

Anyway, let the ridicule begin.

This theory makes sense, seeing how AV drops only a rod for RR3 and SINS seeing how Absolute Virtue is(quote ffxiclopedia.org):

"Absolute Virtue is a concept found in ancient Greek philosophy and Christianity. To the Greeks, it was a principle which exists beyond material forms, an Idea located in the world of Ideas (as envisioned by Plato). Absolute Virtue was constant across different types of people, but relative virtue, how that virtue is displayed in that social class or that gender varies depending on the status or gender of the person. Socrates said it was possible for humans to attain absolute virtue and thus understand Truth. To Medieval Christianity, Absolute Virtue was defined as God. God was absolute virtue. Accordingly, to the Greeks, Absolute Virtue would contain the virtues of Wisdom (Prudence), Courage (Fortitude), Temperance, and Justice, and to the Medieval Christians, Absolute Virtue would contain the virtues of Prudence, Fortitude, Temperance, Justice, Faith, Hope, and Charity/Love.

While the 7 Jailers drop weapons and torques bearing the name of their virtue, Absolute Virtue only drops items bearing the name of seven sins. This would lead to the implication that Absolute Virtue may not be as virtuous as its name implies."

Notice the end... maybe it's not so much that Absolute Virtue is bad but the act of killing it is sinful, hence the dropping of sins =/ Just a thought

Never heard of that, which quest is it/where do you get it? Can you please post a link to it?

edit: ah nevermind, I origionally thought you meant the seven skull NMs, but when you posted "early on in the game" and "quest" I thought it was some wierd capped quest or something. Also thought the skulls were lottery spawn off normal mobs, not force spawn.

This is probably, the coolest post I have ever read on the forums. Double rate up if I could.

This thought is really cool, even though, yes, it does drop "uber leet" items...

But the whole idea of something peaceful not meant to be attacked (merely there for "prettiness" and story components) is very interesting to me...

It doesn't drop anything but quest items and Raphael's Rod.

It just seems odd to me that the most powerful critter in Vana'diel won't aggro, and drops a Reraise III rod. With all the intricate details in this game, it just seems like we're missing something. Like something just isn't quite fitting to the situation. And with AV's banter about suffering and pain, it makes me wonder if maybe there's something you're supposed to do besides kill it.

I could be, and probably am, totally wrong. But still, curiosity makes me wonder...

Lol.

All those so called "quest items" are traded in for good items. In fact, both Raphael's Rod and Ninurta's sash are from the "quest." All you do is trade in the sin and you get the item. These items include 2 rings, ninurta's sash, Raphael's Rod, a sam GKT, Aureole, and something else I can't remember. ~.~
