A great way to make wood levels around 11-13 is to synth and de-synth willow wands as long as you have wind and lightning crystals! Insect wings are very cheap and can be dropped by scarab beetles, etc...
Lightning Crystal+Willow Wand = Willow Lumber I had skill ups at skill 11.
Edit: Had 1 occasion where instead of willow lumber, insect wing was returned. Might be exceptional result 1.
