Seeing as these things are RARELY on the AH, I decided to take initiative and choco dig them myself.
I've dug on many different days and in West Ronfaure and Jugner Forest. My best results have come in West Ronfaure on Earthsday. It's also important to note that it was New Moon (7%)
Now, whether or not day and moon phase have anything to do with success, I have no idea. This is just from personal digging experience. I thought I'd try to help out in any way I could as I know how frustrating it is that these are never on the AH.
[see subject] I really need this stuff to make Acorn Cookies for my RDM, but the AH never seems to have any. Is there any other way to get Acorns without digging with a chocobo or chopping them off trees? I need a cheap effective way to get them. I realize that's a lot to ask, but let's face it... an elvaan mage needs every last MP he can get.

this is just a suggestion, if you are still avid about making acorn cookies then go for it. If you are making these to raise your cooking skill then I say there are recipes with easier ingrediants to find. IF you are doing it for the cookies alone, then I say buy them off the NPC Ness Rugetomal, she's found in Windhurst Waters (<pos> F-10) in the building Rarab's Tail Holstery. my memory is odd at best so the exact price escapes me, but I believe its around 20g -30g a cookie. That all said I prefer the ginger cookies more because they also stack to 99 and raise your mp by 10 instead of the acorn cookies by only 5.
Even better, may I suggest some Sweet Rice Cakes? I'd prefer them over the cookies due to their status bonus, while also adding a little mana regeneration for when a rdm does find some time to rest.
The best part is that they're usually inexpensive, because it's a popular recipe to skill up cooking to 99 and its rarest ingredient - fresh mugwort - had its supply raised with the new harvest craze.
while in Jugnar Forest, out of a stack and a half of greens i found:
2x Acorn
2x Little Worm
1x Maple Log
