Magicked Skull  

For any who are interested I used my level 27 thf to get my buddy his. It took 7 kills to get one to drop. tough fights, I only killed the war type and the first ghoul spawn point in gusgen mines (take first left in mines, in the next room next to an old shack). Took about 2 hours total just waiting for 'em to respawn. No silence needed.

This damn skull makes me hate life. 0/20.

Solo'd the skull 4 the second time in the Dunes @level 21. Had it on 1/4, but it took hours to find these guys.

Ok so I am a lvl 20 RDM with no sub of course... and its driving me crazy... I see some Ghouls from time to time in the dunes and i start to get the itch that maybe i could take him. If it wasnt for the BLM factor I probably would have hit him with a bind and push his stool in with a few cure II... any advice b4 i go Leroy Jenkins on this thing...

i was helping a friend get this as 36drg. AS soon as i walked in i went straght and first ghoul that i saw i used jump(225damage) than high jump
(235damage) and he droped the skull

which really sucks because i remember trying to get this for my whitegate pass and took me a couple hours

Okay I started looking for this stupid skull at level 18. Obviously this skull hates me, I am now level 21 and still no skull. I've killed about 22 ghouls in the dunes and no drop, asked for help in the mines got laughed at. So if anyone can assit me on this quest its much appericiated.

I hate these doggone ghouls, but should I be able to fight one solo as a level 30 war? I see that they are level 27 or so..and I don't want to die. lol.

I just got the skull today. I went to the gusgen mines with my friend shoutoku and he got one for me. They are easy to find before the first flight of stairs when you enter the mines. The first ghoul we fought dropped one.

I have just recentlty acquired the magicked skull i can tell you a good place to get it with a party. Two ghouls spawn at J-8 every night from 0 to 4. Make sure you have a party with a thief that has treasure hunt at a high level and you will acquire the skull within two hours.

At level 19 WAR I was desperate to get this. I wanted to have the subjob-quest done before we set up an account for my son so I could be a better mage helping him. After 2 weeks in the dunes I had only fought one ghoul and that fight was a disaster (we all got killed) at like level 16. I had the apron, got that easy, and the worm I got thanks to a helpful RDM level 25 that I was talking to outside Selbina. Then someone suggested I could go to Gusgen so I did. Shouted at the entrance and got a highlevel THF that helped me. It took like 5 minutes. I offered gil for the help but he said: Just help someone else one day...
The other day I was farming bone-chips at the first part of the mines as a MNK 26. The Skeletons were easy and I could take on several at once (gave me some guarding skill too) but after 3 ghouls I had to rest if they were the WAR-kind. There were several others (players) running around but what I saw they were not killing anything, just running around.
Then came a BLM 19 taru and asked for help getting the skull. I was hoping some higher level would do it for him but after a while I saw him desperately trying to fight some skeletons himself. I offered to help but told him it would take a while since I would have to rest quite often if I was going to kill ghouls. And so it did, for almost an hour.I tried one BLM ghoul (the ones with scythes) but it threw some kind of Gravity-spell on me and took my hp down so low that a whole crowd of skeletons eagerly rushed in to smash me. And I died.
My hp was in Gustaberg so I ran back but had to tell the guy that I probably had to leave soon but I could keep trying till then if he had the patience. He said it was ok, disband whenever you want. (The poor guy was probably half asleep by now.)
Killed a few more, one more BLM, and said: just one more but it must be the last one, sorry and good luck, hope you get some THF or something to help instead. So I killed another club-wielding kind (WAR) and then... Drop!
Very happy he offered to pay me but I said the same thing that was said to me: No, keep your gil. Just help someone else one day...

yer butt has ghouls?

Ok well this sucks. Spent ages last night with a 31 WAR/15NIN and a 40+ WHM looking for skull in Gusgen, no luck. The most we found was bone chips. Anybody know the drop rate for these?

yesterday, My party one with coincidence figithing one Ghouls WAR ( i think) at dunes. we had 3 persons
that did not have a sub job yet (incl. me) .
I lot, 2 of us lot it and the Party leader won!!

I must say he was very lucky !!

if u need the drop, im on leviathan server, 100k per drop, and i keep everything. thanks ^^

but i dont think a rdm18 could solo this, as they checked dc to me as a 19war, you could use help, but if u need help on leviathen send a tell my way, btw.. free.

Been looking for a skull for 3 days, I havn't even seen what a ghoul looks like yet... ;_;

I'm level 20 blackmage, can i go to gusgen mines solo? If no, what level is the best to get in?

have the drop rates on these things changed ?????

I usually take a party of noobs to gusgen mines & i get 6 skulls in less than 2 hours.

Lastnight i was there for over 4 hours & only got 2 ?????????????

I swear the drop rate for Papyrus is a lot better.

& im 53 & have TH2

Seriously, could someone please comment on the changed drop rate for these things ??

This probably won't help anyone, but I thought I'd just mention that I killed a Ghoul in Pashow Marshlands for the heck of it, and it dropped a Magicked Skull.

I wanted a Bone Chip. ^^;

To sum all of these posts up,if you arnt/dont have a theif in your party, you will not get a skull for a VERY long time. WHM tries for three hours and gets nothing, (lvl 15)theif trys for 30 mins. and gets 1-3. moral of the story? stop whining and get a theif! or if you prefer to sit there killing the ever-rare ghouls for the rest of eternaty....

The drop rate is not so bad. So far I've killed 5 and 4 of them dropped the skull. I have treasure hunter though, maybe that helped.

I got a magicked skull off a ghoul i just happened to come across in jugner forest rofl.

I got 1 thanks to a couple of very cool upper level players.After a couple of hours in the mines we got 2,I paid the guys 3000gil for the help, and it was worth it. that same day i also got to see the outland area where you can fight each other.

i can confirm this is dropped from ANY Ghoul.

I have (just from average play) Ive gotton a magicked skull from ghouls in Valkurm, Buburimu, Gusgen, and Maze of Shakrami. so if you need a skull pick a place and go at it ;)

nice thing is in the mines and maze ther are always ghouls there, so if it will proly go faster to hunt in shakrami, plus youll be helping out the loow lvls, you know how much it sucks to get agroed by a ghoul at lvl 15 im sure ;)

despite this I still say that the mhaura version of teh subjob quest goes faster. I get dahmel saliva at almost 1 in 4 dahmels. and rabbit tail is easy to get in a pty of lvl 18s. and I can get bloody robes all over the place. pllus boggies are a more concentrated spawn than the ghouls in the dunes. just my $.02
