Wild Onions come from Goblin Thugs in the Horororootototo ruins.
They are easy as pie to kill. Cocks in SC are harder but if you
have a high enough job, they are easy as pie to kill too. Those
are the only two expensive ingredients.

You can make these for nearly nothing if you have the proper
cooking skill. Cooking is fairly cheap to level if you don't
have it. NPC's supply a lot of ingredients if you have time
to look it all up.

Whiney == Lazy in my book. When I see people whine about prices,
I just know they are lazy. No handouts here with the exception
of the above information. Yeah it takes time but it's a good
investment. Cook to keep your own consumables at a low price.
You won't make a ton of money cooking and farming but you will
keep your own food budget down.

Just so everyone knows who takes the time to read these things....

Don't listen to this person, they don't know what they are talking about.

I got hooked on the Mithkabobs soloing my Dragoon, and so naturally I use em while leveling my Samurai. Even at Level 12 these things still gave a boost, though it was only a 14 or 15 ATT boost. But as I am currently a Level 24 Samurai they are giving me a +24 ATT boost.

Also these things are giving me a +61 ATT (not 60) @60 on my Dragoon, but that was before I got a pt and Capped my Polearm and leveled. And I haven't had a chance to test how much they give me now, since my ATT is about 15 above what it was base from when I was soloing using these things. So I will get back on here when I get back on, and post up what exactly they give now.

But even so, even if it is a fluke that I got +61 ATT with these things, it was still +60.5 ATT. Which is more than posted here as the max it will give.

Fenrir prices are: kabobs 4-5k in Bastok Windy sandy 5-6k in jeuno
Cockatrice meat 12-15k stack
Wild onions 8-11k stack
Khazam Peppers (sold in Khazam)
Garlic sold at regional vendor.
Fire Crystals tend to be cheaper in jeuno and sandy i can rarelt get stacks for 3-3.5k but normally 4-5k stack
Chiefs are going for 20k-ish stack
the price quotes you provided somewhat odd, since the cost to make a normal stack would be 5400ish not including the cost to AH it. unless your server is flooded with cooks making money from there HQ your cooks will be losing money.
You could try to be frugal and buy singles of the onions and meats i get onions from 300-700 each and meat I can get for 800-1k each. and remember to shop around for the best prices. The onions are rarely sold at cooking guild and do drop off goblins thug type mobs.

It's like that with a lot of goldsmithing too (at least at my lvl) like silver rings cost over 5k to make and in Jeuno they sell for 2k. People alwase say like well if you farmed/mined you would make a profit, but that means that if you sold those materials you farmed/mined you'd get more than if you synthed them.

People are getting all upset about this item. Which is understandable seeing how the most common melee food item is now too expensive for most people to buy.

But I urge players to take a look at the upside of this. Most people are going to be looking for a cheaper alternative for melee boost. And there will be one available for anyone with the will to try their hands at a cooking synth.

Grilled hare is a lvl 6 synth that last for 1hour. It's cheap and easy to make and a good item for new chefs to begin lvling their cooking skill with. It gives str +2 and attack +11%. Of course it doesn't stack and the stats aren't fantastic but it is what it is. A decent alternative for those without cash. I see the popularity of this item increasing assuming the price of a stack of meat kabobs continues to rise over the next few weeks. Which it probably will.

Here are a few more alternatives to both use as means to lvl your cooking skill and and use for melee.

Food________________LVL_____Lasts_____Stats
Grilled Black Hare*___6_______90min____STR +3 ATT +15%
Roast Mutton________17______60min____STR +3 ATT +15%
Juicy Mutton*________17______90min____STR +4 ATT +18%
Meat Jerky___________26______30min____STR +1 ATT + 10%
Dhalmel Steak_______29______60min____STR +4 ATT +18%

*Denotes HQ Synth

Basically my point is, before the upgrade many people's cooking skill wasn't high enough to start making gil off synths. But now, the outragous new price of the meat mithkabob has brought popularity to these lower lvl synth items. So not only will more people turn to these option, but they will also bring a more solid return on your low lvl cooking skill. Putting more gil in your pocket to buy the meat mithkabobs.

For those of you with a high cooking skill that look to this item as a source of income you have no need to worry. The better stats are a good reason for people to pay more money for this item. Hell I've been paying 5k per stack of Fish Kabobs since I was lvl 10. Also if you have this high of a cooking skill I'm sure there are other money makers out there for you to try. Be adventurous try something new.

People who buy the kabobs are complaining about the new higher prices, well you know what, at 5k a stack, the chefs are the ones suffering, on Cerberus i lose money making Meat kabobs unless i get at least 2 HQs per 12 synths (which is almost impossible with my 40 cooking skill)

here's the breakdown
Cockatrice Meat Stack 20k
Wild Onion Stack 6k
Fire Crystal Stack 3.5k
Peper Stack 600
Garlic Stack 1500
Total Price: 31400

With the new patch, those ingredients make a grand total of 6 Stacks of mithkabobs at 5k a stack... thats a grand total of... 30k... net profit?
-1400

oh yea... great job squeenix... now i can make more money synthing bug broth... so why bother getting high skill at all if all its gonna do is cost me?

Stop making them.

When Supply < Demand, the price will increase.

I just don't understand why Fish Mithkabobs increased. I was already paying close to 6k a pop for them, pre-patch. Now I need to pay 10k? Whoa. And the alternative? Boiled crab used to cost 7k. Since the demand has shot up, so has the price -- To 12k.

But I'm on a fish price tangent, as my main is a PLD.

Back on Meat's, stop making mithkabobs, yo. As long as you don't, supply will deminish, and demand will continue. I know people on my server are quickly selling their "stocked up" meats because they bought them for half price and figure "profit!".

I can confirm the x6 yield for the Mithkabob reciepe, a +1 Synth yeilds 12.

12 synths at lvl 79 cooking I got:

8 x 6 Mithkabob ( normal synth )
3 x 12 Mithkabob ( +1 synth )
1 x 12 Cheifkabob ( +2 synth )

The price at the AH for x12 Mithkabob have gone from about 2,800 x 12 to more than 5,000+ x 12.

This is bad news all around - since this is the most popular food item in the game.

(edit) The food stats are: +5 STR, +1 AGI, -2 INT, ATTK 26%.

(This food lasts for 12 hours 30 minutes game time.)

The selling rate of these will come to a screeching halt! What Ranger would buy 12 mithkabob when they could buy 5 x 99 arrows !?

Well if I was making these to skillup, I would much rather like to know what they cap at. If you have a crafting skill up to ~35, you should know approximately how many levels below the cap you can start making them. Who wants to spend a ton of money on the ingredients to skillup, only to find out that they've already reached the cap? Knowing the cap also gives you a better idea of how often you can HQ them and at what level. Sure, you might make a little profit off of the extras that you would make (possibly not), but what if your plan was to powerlevel your crafting? Now a large chunk of money would be tied up in the AH while you are waiting for the Mithkabobs to sell.

regular synth of these is 12 mithkabobs...HQ synths can yield 6, 9 or 12 chiefkabobs, but you usually only get 12 when synthing on firesday. i make good profit off these even when i buy the cockatrice meat, it's just a matter of all the ingredients being available...(hint: use your mules!!!)

as for synthing them at lvl 30. since the kabobs cap at lvl 38, this means that you can make them with image support starting around lvl 27-28, but you won't get any more skill-ups past lvl 38 cooking.

hope this helps a bit.

as for farming, you're really not making more money because you're farming. the money you save, is the money you would have made if you sold what you farmed instead of using it. My personal advice is, if you're going to farm, farm, if you're going to synth, synth, doing both isn't going to save you much.

Alright, the entire point of crafting many items in this game is for the HQ (high quality) results that you can potentially get. HQ1 for meat mithkabob is 6 meat chiefkabobs; HQ2 is 8 meat chiefkabobs; HQ3 is 12 meat chiefkabobs. On Ifrit server meat chiefkabobs sell for roughly 8-9k a stack, do the math. Try getting to around lvl 50 or so and you should get HQ results nearly every time, yielding a great profit. Oh yeah, and for all the people that don't understand the "time is money" factor let me explain.

When you purchase all your ingredients from vendors, AH, bazaars, whatever, you can synthesize your product immediately. Kabobs sell very, very fast at AH or put up a bazaar near a zone to a popular leveling area. So you are making money right away. However, if you farm some of your ingredient, you are not making gil right away. You are only "saving" gil that you don't have to spend anymore. So in fact the two are equal because kabobs sell so damn fast. Either you sell a whole bunch right away for ok profit, or you wait while because you have to farm a stack of cockatrice meat, but make big profit for each stack... so buying your ingredients vs. farming them in this case for this synthesis item should not be a large deciding factor people, you make money just as fast farming as you do buying all your ingredients. Understand everyone? thankyou

By the way this can all change ifyou have TH1 and TH2 because it is highly probable that you would make gil faster farming cockatrice meat. When crafting, you always have to make a mental check on how long it will take me to farm the ingredients to make big profit, vs. how many I can craft and sell in the same amount of time. If it takes you, say, 1 hour to farm a stack of cockatrice meat (saving your 17-20k) and you can craft like 48 kabob stacks in the same amount of time (yielding like 28k profit if you get 7k profit per stack of ingredients bought) then you should buy all your ingredients cuz you make more profit buying everything than farming, in the same amount of time. This is a really rough estimate but I am just trying to get my point across, not calculate a whole bunch of stuff for you. When you factor in that the majority of those crafts can be HQ, ahhhh, now you make even more gil leaving farming as an option virtually unneccessary. Remember, buying ingredients would probably be better ONLY for this craft because they sell so very very fast. Other things take like 1-3 earth days to sell, so farming would be your better option there probably. And I'm done.

At level 50 cooking, HQs for mithkabobs are very rare. If you want a better chance of HQs, try in the 80s or 90s, you should get around 50%HQ rate(most of them are HQ1s).

Also, just felt like adding Midgardsormr costs. :P

The meat is around 20k, onion is 6k, garlic is 1.5k(too lazy to walk)and the pepper is 1k; crystal is 3k.

This is a total of around 32k, mithkabobs sell on AH for 3k a stack(In the starting towns). This is 36k for 12 stacks, which is 3k profit.

With chiefkabobs, I can average around 4HQ1s, and 1HQ2, this leaves 7 stacks of mithkabobs for 21k. 4HQ1s is 2 stacks, and an HQ2 is 3/4 of a stack, making 2 3/4 stacks of chiefkabobs which sell for 8.5k per stack, or about 23k.

23k+21k=44k, or 12k profit, all numbers were rounded down(Except material costs.)

Also note: Any materials farmed can not be subtracted from the total, since time=money, unless you were going to throw out the item.(saying that the copper ore in copper ingots is free when you mined it yourself is true if you were planning to throw it out, which most miners do for space, however spending 2 hours to get a stack of wild onions is not free, since you would sell those on AH. If you spend 2 hours getting 6k worth of items, I could spend the same time getting more money to buy the onion.)

I did some analysis on the numbers posted to the Trade Skills Forum and broke it down by day of the week to see which day of the week was best for crafting. What I found was that the best you can ever hope for with Meat (taking into consideration HQ, NQ, and Failures) is a profit of approximately 16700 gil per stack of Fire Crystals. That is PROFIT, after taking into consideration cost of materials. I honestly don't feel like posting the raw numbers here, check the Trade Skills forum, maybe i'll post it there if I get some time. By the way, this is if you're at level 94 cooking.

I hardly ever sell these things at the AH, you lose money that way. Try sitting somewhere in Sandoria and selling them by bazaar. Works for me and I make decent profits.

Okay, lets start this all over, so we don't give peeps the wrong impression.

Stack of:
Fire Crystals: Free (Take time to hunt a few Fire Elementals in Valkurm Dunes)
Kazham Pepper: 756 (Take a nice lil trip to Kazham instead of buyin from AH)
Mhaura Garlic: 960 (Buy from Regional Vendors)
Wild Onion: 4000 if you buy from the right AH (aka Sandy er Windy)
Cocatrice Meat: 20000 (You are right about this one)

Cost: 25716

Sandy AH Price: {12x2800} 33600
Sandy Transaction Price: {12x5} 60

Total Profit: 33600-25716-60= 7824

25716 for 7824 gil, I think so.

Oh, and if you happen to get a stack of Cheif Mithkabobs while ur at it, the u've jus made even more profit.

Nothing is ever 'Free.' Time is money.

Correct Formula:

1800 Fire Crystals (Sandy avg)
Kazham Pepper 750 (about)
Mhuara Garlic 1000 (or slightly less)
Wild Onion 4000 (You can pick these off sometimes individually for much lower.)
Cock Meat 20000

27,550/12 = 2,295 to Make. I promise yield is 12.

Sell at 3000 in Bastok, Windy, Sandy, or Bazaar(250 per)=
8,450 profit without farming.

More if HQ achieved.

the way i do it

Fire Crystals (i get them from people in my link)

Wild Onion (i farm gobs to get these + the the gil & gob masks which gives me about 5000 for every 12 onions)

Mhuara Garlic (i buy from regional vendors for about 970)

Kazham Pepper (i buy from regional vendors for about 800 or hop on the airship to kazam about
1000)

Cockatrice Meat 20000

cost with the trip to kazham:16970

then i sell the 12 stacks in my mules bazaar for 280 for a single. its cheaper then the 300 for a single but i end up 3360 for a stack while they sell for 2800 in Sandy AH.

so i make 40320

income: 40320
supplies: 16970
profit: 23350

If the yield is 6 (according to recipe above), then you can only make 6 stacks of mithkabobs per stack of ingredients, assuming no fails. Maybe I'm missing something.

Hmmm, thats weird, since when has the Yield been 6, yesterda night when I cheked it was 12. Square must have changed the yield to 6 er somethin, cause I'm positive last nite it said 6, and when I see peeps making this, it always says: "______ synthesized 12 Meat Mithkabobs". So either this info is a bit off, er Square put a nice lil update in, to screw up our gil making.

EDIT: Oh and BTW, I jus checked MysteryTour.com and they say it still yields 12 Mithkabobs, 6 Cheifkabobs if HQ1, 8 Cheifkabobs if HQ2, and 12 Cheifkabobs if HQ3. You can even check if you don't believe me.

I started cooking skill just to make these and well so i won't pay so much for pie. Ant these are a real money maker for the fact that one set of ingrediants makes a stack. i haven't seen price of items in culinary guild yet but in ah prices are ok an you you don't have to buy a stack all the time you can get 4 looses of items an boom 4 stack of 12 (not me b cuz i'm only 34 lvl chef) . and for the guy who said you don't have to make all items to get to 50 an make mostly exceptionals, you don't but if you wanna make em b4 50 you do. anyway i make everything to lvl so i can test market. To sum it up i love these things an can't wait for meat chiefkabobs.
