I've been catching these for the past 20 minutes, just for the money. My skill is 26 + 2, and I'm using a Halcyon Rod + Shrimp Lure, in Windurst Waters. I wasn't expecting to skill up on these, seeing as how they're 30 skill levels above me, but I just now gained two skill-ups from them.
So, it's quite possible to both skill-up and cash-out on these guys at lower levels. My bite rate is just a bit lower than my bite rate on Pipira, which I was previously skilling up on.
Caught 8 (would've been 9, but was too quick with the enter key) with Halcyon and insect paste within 1/2 an hour outside of the residential area in Windurst Waters, between 00:00 and 10:00am on Firesday, mostly after 5am, 76% waning moon. At 10 they stopped biting altogether.
Catch on average 2 and a half to 3 stacks of Gold Carp per 200 fish cap in Windurst Woods using Insect Paste. Pays off for bait expenses, so no complaints.
I just fished up two in an hour. No gear, lvl 6 fishing skill...halcyon rod and insect paste off the rotunda in windy woods. I was so excited i wanted to wake up the entire house and tell them. I didn't. That's it.

I'm a level 7 Fisherman, and don't know where to fish and what to use for the best/fastest fishing skillups! can anybody help me? Thanks Atanas of Sylph DRK 40
The Path of the DRK has many routes, which one you chose depends on how willing you are to kill!
I found that fishing with a Clothespole/Little Worm in Bastok Moats (other cities moats might be good as well) - is a really cheap way to skill up fishing and earn a bit of gil on the side. (When Bastok is ahead in conquest the little worms are dirt cheap from Boytz's Nick Nack's in the mines)
I also did pretty well at the skilling up at Kazham peer fishing for Cobalt Jellies(again with the clothespole)
I'm no expert (as I'm only lvl 12 myself) - but that's what I've learnt!!
in windy these r easiest to catch, i had on fish gloves , pants, boots and my cook guild coat. at lvl 9 fishing halcyon rod & insect paste my 1st 4 cast 3 were gold carp.
in the end out of 12 stacks of paste, 9 stacks moat carp, 3 stacks of gold carp and i got skill ups on. them so yes, easy catch...
Worth 900 Guild points each for a total limit of 4560 for one day. Turn in 5 for 4,500 Guild Points, or spend the extra time/money for the final 60 points and turn in 6 Gold Carp.
Fishing guild in Windurst sells them for about 1.5k-2k depending on availability. AH is usually much cheaper.
I am not lying I just caught one of these with NO SKILL... I was wearing all fishing gear and have Moghancement fishing, but when it caught the hook it said "Your positive you do not have enough skill" I was shocked, but no skill up :(
Just because it says "Your positive...." DOSENT mean you cant catch it. If you have enahncments like clothes etc. it WILL be easier. Your assumptions are not always right (especially at lower lvls). I dont know if anyone has said this but when you are fishing where you can get aggro if it says "Something caught the hook!!!" [pleas note the 3 '!!!'] that means you have a monster, and if you are on a mule you most likely need to let the catch go if you think you are weaker then it. a normal one '!' means it is either an items or a fish.

I'm 49.8 fishing right now still working on my Lu Shangs >.<. I've found Windurst Woods/Waters to be great places to skill up at my level and work on Moat Carps at the same time.
Unlike Sandy, Bastok, and many other locations, the only things you will hook here, with insect paste, are Moat Carp and Gold Carp, not Dark Bass, Tri Carp, and all that other low level crap.
Best setup for me has been Halcyon + Insect Paste. At my level, I can pull up Gold Carps quite often, so it's nice to be getting a useful fish on every cast.
I caught one the other day. Although, my fishing skill is only about 2 or 3. XD
But I was using Little Worms and a Hume Fishing Rod. It almost took to long to catch, 'cause it DID have the "you don't know if you can hold on any longer." message pop up. ^^;
I also caught a bunch of Tri-colored Carp with the same bait and rod. :)
oddly enough i was fishing in northern sandoria using a hume fishing pole and insect paste i caught 11 moat carp 6 tri colored carp 1 gold carp
my fishing is lvl 9
----------------------------
"The true theory is once you were a low lvl asking for help if your a high lvl now and refuse to help other low lvls you dont deserve the help you recieved"
In my opinion, North gusta burg has the most gold and tricolored carp, as those seem to be the only fish that bite insect paste there. Un fortunatly, unlike the other areas with gold and tricoloreds, there are no moat carp. So if you have your lu shangs already maybe that would work, but if not, the loss of moat carp will kill ya.

completed 1 morri robe tonight. That was nice. Kev got his 25 feet, that was nice. The dog may have pooped inside... thereby nullifying all gains.
I fish for these all the time, its pure profit and thats always fun.
This is a mid level fish (cap is at 55) so if your low you'll only catch a few of them from time to time. The best bait to use for them is Insect paste or Shrimp Lure (Which is the bset IMO, cause..well,you never lose any money once you repay the cost for the lure) and a Composite or Mithran fishing rod (warning!: If there are arrowood logs in jugner, which there probably are, then the mithran rod MIGHT break, so be careful with that.)
Selling these on the AH is less profitable than to the fishermans guild, at least on Asura. the guild buys them for 675 a peice.
Best locations would probably be Sandoria, Jugner, Windurst Woods/Waters/Walls, and Bastok Markets. IMO, jugner has the best bite rate.
Once you can catch these consistantly, you rack up the gil pretty fast.
I've never had any luck with any fish casting off of port Sandy. I've tried as per one of the guides to fish tricolored and golds till a skill in the mid 30's but this particular area has never given me much. granted i have only a 15 skill which is augmented to 19 with fishing gear, but the bite rate in that area is just awful for me

hmm i just caught one earlier today uh... it was in jugnar near at the end of the creek near the waterfall my fishing level is 13 and i had full fishing gear
I just started fishing last night and I caught one of these with a carbon rod and insect paste in Windurst wood. The funny thing is that my fishing skill was less than 1 at the time and I didn't catch anything else for the 30 minutes I tried.
umm in sandy port i caught 3 of these within 2 stacks of insect past with carbon pole ^^ so wishing skill 30+ ? no way im not sure if it was like unbelieveable luck or something my skill is now lvl 6 but was lower then lol so i dont really know much about it i dont mean 2 dispute anyone's word but im just telling you of my experience with gold carps

i think it's weird that i got one of these at fishing skill 10(full gear, Composite rod, Insect Paste). It's supposed to 41-56 fish. I wonder if this means that I can synth something 46 levels above and succeed some fraction of the time?
No, you wont even be allowed to attempt a synth 46 levels above you. As a warning; do NOT compare fishing to any other craft, it is not synthing, there is no element star or house element, day effect, there is moon but there's no such thing as HQs in fishing, so that's a completly different concept.
I have caught nearly 2 stacks in an hour at fishing level 50 at Jugner Forest. I have caught more gold than moats, I also have a Lu Shangs Fishing Rod and full gear, so maybe I have more of an advantage.
The problem with not catching many, is low skill. to catch these comfortably I would recommened a skill of 45+
they are not that hard to catch. My advice would be to buy a mithran rod and a shrimp lure and fish in port Sandy or Windurst Waters or bastok market. This method will level you up, tricoloured carp from 15-27 and gold till 36 and as you catch tri coloured carp as well as gold carp and you will never lose bait. Doing this in Port Sandy I have caught lots of gold carp and my fishing skill is at 16
These are a rare bite, and as such are difficult to target. Jugner lake with insect paste is perhaps the zone I catch the most at. I have also heard that the rotunda in Windurst Woods is good for Gold Carp.
Again, they're a rare bite. The most I've ever gotten was 5 in a 4-hour fishing session.
I usually fish with a composite rod but once I used a carbon rod and caught my 1st gold carp at level 13 skill. Also caught lots of Tricolored carp for the 1st time. All in Port San d'oria

Just caught one in N. San d'Oria w/ a Carbon rod, little worm, full fishing gear (tunic, gloves, pants, boots) with base fishing skill of 3. Still dunno what it's used for though. :-/
