i wanted 5 of these so i went to lathiene L-10 with a mithra rod and frog lure, lvl fourtyfive fishing.
No fishing gear i had a hard time pulling anything in, could only catch giant catfish.

warped and got fishing gear, comp. rod and imagery and tryed again.

by the time i got the 5 terrapin i needed for gp's, i had 7 dark bass, 2 rusty caps, 2 buckets and 15 giant catfish. also i got a .2 fishing skillup on my second cast arriving to the pond which was nice.

I lvl off these in pashow marshlands, real good skillups between these and giant catfish, but i make a great profit as well as i sit here..

I go with my Thf46 and sit at Hexmarsh catching these, as well as swamp leeches and thread leeches (i kill the 2-3 leeches that spawn on land as well) i use halcyon rod and frog lures, but shell bugs work as well. (giant shell bugs i catch nothing but terrapin but good luck getting them)

with red terrapin @ 50k a stack and beastman blood at 130k per stack i make good profit while my fishing skill soars^^ but uhh, don't tell anyone cuz then the AH price might drop as everyone lvling fishing would come here....oops..

Needed these to make turtle soup for guild item... none in AH, so I tried fishing them with Shell Bugs and Frog Lure. No luck in Pashow, Rolanberry, Ronfaure, or Davoi. Finally caught some in La Theine at the small pond at (L-10) with shell bugs ONLY. Got a stack +1 after 4 stacks of bait. No luck at the bigger pond. Hope that helps anyone not having luck catching these things.

Can be caught in Pashow, the first lake near the highlands zone using shell bugs. My friend and I were lvling off of copper frogs. He had a few lures and was tired of losing em when he failed (he was below my lvl and I had been catching copper frogs for three lvls and also before, for four more lvls (3-7) in bastok) so he switched to shell bugs. He actually caught these with success at 10-11 or so (I leveled to 13 after he caught 'em). I was mad I didn't have any shellbugs, but I was full of clusters anyway. So good place there, I guess. I will try in a four or so more levels.
Fishing Sucks

Is there no other way to obtain these?????? Can they be purchased from a NPC or Auction house. Fishing has to be the most boring thing in the game. But wouldn't it be funny to see a galka fisherman sitting on a cooler drinkin a fine Ale lol..

Specifically, Quon is the Bastok-San d'Oria continent. The Windurst continent is called Mindartia.

i was told you can catch these in LaThiene with a frog lure but i've had no luck. Are yuo supposed to fish for these in the large central lake ( the Emphemere) or one of the smaller southern lakes?
any imput would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. I moved to one of the smaller lakes near the valkurm zone and I catch Giant Catfish and Dark bass. I have yet to catch a Red Terrapin though.

Fishing Skill: 21
Rod: Mithran
Bait: Frog lure

Caught a Red Terrapin. It seems the only place you can fish /w the Mithran rod and frog lure is the pond at L-10

I've started catching these at level 20 there, currently about .3 from 22, using a Composite Rod and Frog lure. I've caught 3 of these so far, about 5 Giant Catfish and 1 Dark Bass. I've gotten about 1.4 skill ups so far, during 24% waxing crescent on darksday.

I like catching this fish in East Ronfaure the best. The reason for this is that there are only two possible bites with a frog lure here - terrapin and giant catfish - which makes it far easier to isolate red terrapin.

Every time the message says "Something caught the hook!!!" I escape out as there's only two possible outcomes: monster or giant catfish.

Yes you can catch them at the more northern smaller lake but at levels 15 and 21, you aren't going to catch any. I'm level 31 and I just started catching them in Davoi. Back when I was 21 I would get the "You lost your catch because of your lack of skill" message in La Theine and I'm 99% sure it was because of these things.
For fun...

I keep one of these guys stored in my delivery box. Yup, it's one of the great pleasures I get when I check to see if anything sold on the AH. ^.^v

The Angry Turtle

Okay, here's my info on the angry little red turtle of the Quon continent.
I have fished from lvl 16-17 in La Theine at the little pond in L-10 (also water element spawn so if your job lvl is around 30, you can take these to shift up the fishing).

I currently have 9 in my inventory, and am waiting for 3 more as stacks sell for 15k on Carbuncle, in San d'Oria.

I use a Composite Rod and a Frog Lure. I have all four pieced of Fishing gear, which, what? increases chance of catching fish or something and all that good stuff.

Anyway, there are the things everyone wants to know.
On: "Something caught the hook! You have a good feeling about this one!" out of 11, 2 were terrapins.

On: "Something caught the hook! You don't know if you have enough skill to reel this on in." out of 9, 2 were terrapins.

On: "Something caught the hook! You're fairly sure you don't have enough skill to reel this one in." out of 8, 3 were terrapin.

Like all fishing, there's all that day and moon phases and whether. On the last day I was fishing, which went through Earthsday and Watersday I caught a lot of Dark Bass and no Red Terrapins, were on, might have been Firesday, I caught about 5 in a row.

Can't ever just give it one go and give up when it comes to catching fish. If you want it, and know you have the right rod and bait, all you have to do is fish your little heart out, and one day you will be rewarded with a snappy little turtle on your own!
