Reliable for small fish

I've had this rod for a long while and only broke it once on a catch I probably should not have shot for in the first place. Rusty Subligaria/weapons and larger mobs will break this rod no sweat, so in general, avoid reeling anything in that will be a monster, big catch (!!!), or "having a bad/terrible feeling about" and you should go a long way with this rod. On Bahamut this rod is pretty cheap at 4-5K, so it's a pretty good choice on those starting out on fishing and targeting moat carp. At least it has been from my experience.

Hmmm... The new patch was just released, and it seems that this is now the best synthetic fishing rod designed to catch small fish. Before the patch, it wasn't worth fishing with much else besides Composite, Mithran, or Lu Shang's. This rod was only used in very specific areas due to it breaking so often on items and large fish. Perhaps with the new "fishing instinct" and rod changes, this will change?

With the new patch, will it be more advantageous to use a rod that isn't designed to catch large fish (such as Composite) while targetting small fish such as Moat Carp?

Well i tried to use a composite rod for carp but i could'nt pull them out because the hook was too big or something like that, Im using the Carbon Rod for Carp, only broken 2 time and it was because i was too unskilled and too bold on some hard catch.

In windurst Wood with that rod with one stack of insect ball: at least 8-10 Carp, 1 rusted legging and some time a copper Ring, with luck sometime you can pull out a Gold Carp. When the reeling is too hard i just cancel and reel back, better lose 30 gil of a insect past than selling the broken carbon rod for half the price (7k and 3k the broken one on Asura) unless you have a alchemist friend its only cost a light crystal.

To make it brief its a very reliable rod for carp IMO.

This Rod is decent. I have a fishing skill of 8 and mine has only broke once. You have to know where and when to fish with each rod and they wont break so fast. These Rods are beasts for catching Carps.

If you really want to know how to keep poles from breaking and get the fish you want then go to http://www.fishermanrods.net/database_e.cfm and check to see if the rod will break by the area. This is one of the most useful fishing sites I have ever seen. I have bought ONE Carbon Fishing rod about 3 months ago and have NEVER broken it thanks to this site. my fishing is is now 21 too ^^.

At some point it will become inevitable that I will break a rod. I hope to have liu's by then and hopefully enough woodworking to fix it.

This is the best rod for Moat Carp besides Lu Shangs Fishing Rod.
I recommend this highly for the Lu Shang rod quest in Port San'doria.

This is one of the better rods, although it can be broken. I use it for moat carp and tri-colored carp. The rod is expensive for a beginner but it will pay for itself. It is a good rod if u want to lvl your fishing skills quickly.

Theres not a pole in the game that wont break, I broke two composites in 30 mins on the boat with fishing skill 25+4. You just have to know the limits of the pole and where and when to use them. I use carbons to fish MC as I have no losses. If it breaks it sells for half price and I buy another. At that rate the third one is free. Mine last me 2 weeks of fishing 4 hours a day every day.

There is no perfect pole, even liu's breaks.
This rod is EASY to break!

I've broken this sucker several times. If you're a lower level fishing, us a Fast water fishing rod instead. Unless you have ~Lv. 45 Alchemy, i'd recommend against this rod if possible.

The upside is that it is one of the best performing rods for small fish out there, next to Lu Shang's, but it will break on garbage items.

Im not exactly sure, but i heard from japanise friends that ot was 83 in alchamy, but that seems alittle extreme. The fact of the matter is, yould probably be better off useing a Clothespole rod. which i heard takes like 50 woodworking skill to fix. These are all tenative numbers however, i'm just trying to shed some light on the situaton.

I think I read somewhere that you need a Light Crystal in order to repair a rod. You fuse the rod and the crystal together to get a mended rod. I dont remember what skill is needed to do this though. I will look around and reply back if I find out.
