I've waited in Tahrongi Canyon at the bones (F-11) for an hr and a half but a mining point hasn't appeared. Am I missing something? And is this the only mining spot in Tahrongi?
There are several places. Just look for the big dragon skeletons. ^^

Chicken bones used to be rare as hell, and now the market seems flooded. I'm guessing they're a common drop or common exacation in an expansion area, but that is just conjecture.
Anyhow, the prices have dropped from 12k to 5k, so I'm wondering what is going on.
Its kinda insane really. The guild dosnt sell it so they go for uber cash, like 13k a stack on my server. Yet the guild only will give you 15 gil for em. heh.
These can be found by "excavating" in the Tahrongi Canyon by the large bone formations. Careful at night though, Skeleton Warriors, Ghosts and Bahgnats (cats) all aggro.
If you're talking the Mhaura quest, beastcoins are a better trade. Easier drop and at 600 per stack of 8...its about equal to 1K for 12. You lose some cash but its better than almost any other for the return.
What pikko is saying is that these go for 12k per stack, so 12 times as profitable then your other solution. This is used to do the godly "Shark Fin Soup".

go for 1k each or 15k per stack on carbuncle. i mined up 4 of them in about 5 minutes :D skeleton keys are needed by thfs as well and that's what this makes, i don't forsee the demand for this item dropping all that much.
