Wondering if to start with a scythe since the af weapon for the drk is also a scythe or just get the deathbringer and raise greatsword instead?

what i did was raised my warrior to 30 with a scythe. Then when i got my DRK, i planned to used greatsword until about level 18, when i get the first actual scythe (not zhagnal). I hope it will work out but i would focus on where to get most damage whether it be greatsword or scythe if they are both leveled. It worked for me because i got alot of damage for level 5 with the deathbringer, now i may just go back to scythe because it has more damage then most greatswords. But that is my opinion.

Yeah, Scythe skill for DRK is A+, whereas GSD is A-, doesn't REALLY come into play till lvl 61, as the caps will be the same every lvl for them. Scythe WILL lvl a little faster than GSD, but not that noticably. I suggest using both, so you have both sets of skills available, they're both GREAT weapons for a DRK to use.

I personally like scythe, since they usually do more damage than the greatswords. I like the higher dmg because then your weapon skills do more too. Though, pick what you want, since drk is pretty much equally proficient at both greatsword and scythe (though the cap for scythe is slightly higher, but you won't notice until at least after lvl 60).

you cant get it from bastok if they are in 3rd, and maybe not if they are in second i think

I honestly thought any memeber of the Nation of Bastok can get the item no matter what place they are in.

Unfortunately, this is inaccurate. I've never been able to get one of these when Bastok was in last place, which, on Asura, is normally the case. To buy it off the AH though is definitely a reasonable proposition, as it is not all that expensive, and it will not be used but for 5 levels. Might as well save those conquest points ;)
