um chose this over bronze spear for the STR+1. ehhh it'll work even tho im 7 drg. well i kept my harpoon till lvl 7. ill keep this till i get monet or have my LS member craft brass spear

Obelisks are nice spears from level 4 to level 6, but at 7 I would definitely switch to a bronze spear if you can get one. The 16 damage on the bronze spear more than makes up for the +1 STR and 13 damage on the obelisk. Plus, bronze spears sell from weapon shops for 800-900 gil (which most people hopefully can afford by level 7), and they'll last you until level 14, when you can upgrade to a brass spear.
The only problem is that bronze spears are only sold by NPCs in North San d'Oria and Kazham, so you may have to look for one at your local auction house instead. Still, if you can get one, I'd go for the bronze spear right away.

this sux, i have been camping this ***** for 2 days now, gotg obelisk both times, and so i went to the AH thinking "well, maybe it IS worth more than 1k" and when i got there, it was worth 500g ;_; so i think i'm gonna try to raise my blacksmithiung or wahatever it takes to make the obilisk lance to acctualy make money....
My main char is Vivithemonk, current equipment, crafting skills, ect here.

I was bored so I was in the outpost with my 43 drk and I was running in the river thing. I saw this guy, got him down to 1/3 of his hp with 2 hits, then he used invincible. I did Stone II, killed him, got the spear =P
Bought it 5 500gil today.

Oops, i killed this guy without even realizing he was an NM, i thought it was just a named monster. I got the the Obelisk and gave it to someone that needed a Spear. In return he gave me 5k so it is worth around that, if that helps any

true .. NM dont's spawn each hours ... some spawns only once a day

I was sitting in the Wallbreacher/Barricader spawn and some Lv8 goes /sh Help ! there's a weird named monster right here ! So I rush over and sure enough it's Thousandarm. Beat him with extreme ease, dropped the Obelisk. ^^

Got this drop while hunting the other 2 NM's in Ghelsba Outpost for Shield. While we where waiting I decided to go out and farm, see NM OWN it and got this drop. Not bad since I just got my Dragoon..
