beat cesti suck as do many other AF1 weapons end of story
goes both ways
# Apr 06 2007 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
alot of people say cesti suck and im willing to agree becuz of my own personal preferance but thats not the point im hearing things like well they hit a lil lower but twice as fast... wrong they have + delay not actual delay so since these things have about 40 delay + martail arts 2 its about 400 delay for crap damage and as for the +dmg just cuz something may have +10 damage doesnt make it x2 stronger than this because of hand to hand base damage really its only like +6 damge more which il agree is notable but not twice as good....

Alright first off you need to get these. If you dont... you dont get anymore af stuff. Second these can be put to good use. Ive seen/tried using these with + to dex gear and sole sushi. You'll crit alot more then you would with tourney patas and crit > impact knuckles so my mnk setup is this...

Weapon: Beat Cesti (+2 dex)
Head: Merc. Captins headgear (+1 dex,+1 str)
Neck: Spike Necklace (+3 dex,+3 Str)
Hands: Custom M gloves (+3 dex,+3 Str) also switch to Okote ( + 20 att)
Body: Jujitsu gi (+4 acc)
Earrings: Beetle Earrings +1 x2 (+3 att each)
Rings: Puissanace Rings x2 (+3 str each) or Deft Ring x2 (+3 Dex each) or my Woodsman rings x2 (+5 acc each)
Back:Travelers mantle (really doesnt do anything useful for mnk. but i had it for war)
Waist: Brown belt (+5 Str, +8% haste)
Legs: Republic Subligar (+5 att) or jujitsu sitabki (+1 dex, +1 vit and they dont look retarded on male >.>... ok for female players though)
Feet:Fuma kyahan (+3% haste) or Federation Kyahan (+4 att) or even Winged boots (+3 dex)

Oh and dont forget the sole sushi ^^;

alltoghether you will have like +16-21 str and +16-24 dex (depends upon which of the gear you used)

You guys are arguing about the stats of a weapon, but does it really matter? what big of a difference can +4 DMG make over the course of one battle when there is also a difference of -30 delay or so? I think its just a personal preference. Some people like cesti (me) others like knuckles (you) Why argue about it? ><;;

Right now I am equipped with the Boreas Cesti's from the NM Kirata. Same delay and more dmg. Plus the additional wind effect that is permanent enaero which means everytime I hit, the wind hits too. The stats on the Beat Cesti's are nice and are a good weapon for people that want a fast swinging weapon that will hit most of the time. I wear and Venerer's ring for +3 acc and will have a Sniper's when I hit 40 plus I will get the Gi at 40 as well. So I won't really need these. But I do agree that MNK's are about DoT but I may try out the Tourney Patas, just to mix it up. :)

if you are already wearing the boreas cesti, then you will be let down by tounrey patas... i bought them and was not impressed by any stretch of the imagination, after a few fights i promptly put my boreas back on and gave the patas to the other MNK i was PTing with at the time

but if you want to try them out by all means go ahead, its not like its a big ticket item or anything... got em for 3k on carby

If a MNK shows up wearing his AF weapon in my party, he is not gonna be in my party long. AF weapons are all crap. WHM comes with +10 MP, but that is the only one that is remotely useful. If you dont have the money for a better weapon, stop leveling, make the money, then get a good weapon and level again.

I'm a hume WHM and I'd rather use a Holy Maul +1 then the WHM AF, don't get me wrong it was a close choice, the WHM AF weapon is better then the Holy Maul(NQ). a Galka or Elvaan might go with the Blessed Hammed over the Holy Maul+1 because their MND is pretty much set and they could use the MP. But in my parties I've rarely had a chance to rest to full MP so an extra 10 MP is not as usefull as +3 MND.

Paladin's AF weapon is good too. One damage higher than the hunting sword and gives +2 vit and mnd.

But in any case, you have to get your af weapon to get the rest so be it useful or not, gotta get it.

Actually, BRD AF is quite useful if you do not have a monster signa, the +2 CHR from the dagger and +1 CHR from the Elegant shield are both nice bonuses.
Perhaps not so useless

What people fail to realize is that Dex is not just your hit rate, it also affects your criticals, just as people think that Vitality is just .5 of a point for defense, when it is Vitality that lowers dmg taken, defense just makes the current damage taken more consistant, so considering the fact that dex isnt JUST about you hitrate, some could see use of these cesti, its all a matter of preference really. 55 pld and currently working my 38 monk.

Crappy Cesti is the tradeoff we pay for the uber knuckles Spharai (for those with dedication to get them). Switching from Impact Knuckles to Tourney Patas, which gives 4 more dmg, was awesome, I couldn't imagine taking away 7 dmg from myself just to wear the AF. I might try them out for the hell of it, but I doubt I'll prefer them over my Tourney Patas.
Parse for damage

I tell you what. I'll solve this once and for all. My boyfriend has a parsing program, so once I get these, I'll have him parse a few battles with me using these and me using the Impact Knuckles just to see the difference in overall DAMAGE OVER TIME, which is really the issue.

I'm inclined to think they suck too but you do have to remember that it's not necessarily better to hit harder if you are hitting way way less often.

It's sort of like how a lot of people don't get that overall you get more xp if you continuously chain VT mobs instead of killing one IT every 5 mins.

But at any rate, I realize there are more variables involved...so I will be sure to be fighting an IT mob just to factor in the "hitting for 0 damage" concept if I get a crab with metallic body and a retarded RDM. Then I'll try to remember to post the results on here. I only get to play on the weekends so I can't guarantee how long it will take me. Sorry!

OK! Here are the results from my parsing experiment.

First, here is my EQ:
Mercenary Captain's Headgear
Jujitsu Gi
Jaeger Mantle
Purple Belt
Ochiudo's Kote
Spike Necklace
Avenger's Earring
Mercenary's Earring
Puissance Ring x2
Fuma Kyahan
Combat Caster's Slacks

I did this just after leveling to 48, subbing warrior (24). My H2H skill was 144 when I did this.

I fought 3 mobs using my Impact Knuckles, then 3 using my Beat Cesti. For each, the first two fights I used Focus and Dodge, but not Boost or Berserk or anything, and I was solo, so no Haste. The third mob was without Dodge or Focus.

Impact Knuckles
Too Weak Sauromugue Skink
Total Dmg = 790
Total Time = :50
Total Dmg per Second = 15.8
Basic Dmg per Second = 15.8
Attacks per Second = .24

Too Weak Goblin Gambler
Total Dmg = 649 (420 Melee + 229 Raging Fists)
Total Time = :45
Total Dmg per Second = 14.42
Basic Dmg per Second = 9.33
Attacks per Second = .16

Too Weak Tabar Beak
Total Dmg = 1256 (840 Melee + 339 Raging Fists)
Total Time = 1:08
Total Dmg per Second = 18.47
Basic Dmg per Second = 13.49
Attacks per Second = .22

Beat Cesti
Too Weak Tabar Beak
Total Dmg = 1249 (864 Melee + 356 Raging Fists)
Total Time = 1:17
Total Dmg per Second = 16.22
Basic Dmg per Second = 11.6
Attacks per Second = .27

Too Weak Sauromugue Skink
Total Dmg = 878
Total Time = 1:06
Total Dmg per Second = 13.3
Basic Dmg per Second = 13.3
Attacks per Second = .24

Too Weak Goblin Furrier
Total Dmg = 1127 (977 melee + 150 Raging Fists)
Total Time = 1:15
Total Dmg per Second = 15.03
Basic Dmg per Second = 13.03
Attacks per Second = .19

So, the bottom line is that the Beat Cesti do a slight bit less DPS, but they do get more attacks in, which results in more TP and more WS. The difference isn't that huge.

I know this is just a very small sample, but I promised I'd post this so I did. I did intend to do it when fighting harder mobs but then I started thinking of all the uncontrollable variables that would be involved (i.e. being hasted sometimes, being involved in skillchains, debuffs I may or may not have at the time) if I did this when in a party, so I just did it solo on Too Weak mobs in Sauromugue.

I guess I just wanted to dispel the myth that the Beat Cesti totally blow compared to the Impact Knuckles. They do less dmg per hit but they are faster so you get almost the same amount of dmg in overall and more weaponskills in per fight.

So, I actually do use mine, especially if I am having trouble with pulling hate off the tank. (It's hard to find a good PLD these days). If I'm getting aggro I will use these because it spreads my damage out more.

At any rate, I have the Tactician Magician's Hooks just waiting for me to turn 50, so that's my goal now.

Yep, great job testing it on too weak mobs. My BLM can do about 80-100 a hit on TW mobs, does that mean my melee is good in a party? No. The advantage on the impacts is the much higher damage, which only helps against IT. Against weak mobs, weapon damage 'caps' quickly, making faster, weaker weapons better. And mythril knuckles +1 are better anyway.

I think the thing messed up on the adding for total damage

Beat Cesti
Too Weak Tabar Beak
Total Dmg = 1249 (864 Melee + 356 Raging Fists)864+356= 1220
Total Time = 1:17
Total Dmg per Second = 16.22
Basic Dmg per Second = 11.6
Attacks per Second = .27

Impact Knuckles
Too Weak Tabar Beak
Total Dmg = 1256 (840 Melee + 339 Raging Fists) 840+339= 1179
Total Time = 1:08
Total Dmg per Second = 18.47
Basic Dmg per Second = 13.49
Attacks per Second = .22

I have to say that these really suck by looking at the stats. I am lvl 37 monk and I am using tropical punches +10 acc, 0 delay. Hitting more often and hitting faster are much better for a monk. A monk isn't looking for the killer punch, just consistent damage. Let's say that I hit 4 more times per mob and the average damage is 15 pts per hit. That is 60 more pts of damage from the tropics. I would have to hit the mob 15 times for the AF damage bonus to equal that 60 pts. That +4 dam is a joke for a lvl 40 "AF" weapon. Just remember 2 dex = 1 acc so it would take +20 dex to equal tropical punches. I might try to find tropical punches +1. But I'll stick to my punches for the time being.

You should not be using tropical punches at your level. 15 damage per strike is a joke. Pick up some Impact Knuckles, they're about 6k on Diabolos and let me hit in the 30-50 range on ITs. +1 DMG is not one more damage per hit, it's the same as DMG on other types of weapons. If you see a weapon with 52 DMG, it sure as hell doesn't do 52 damage a hit, nor does it do 10 more per hit than something with 42 DMG. Seriously, it's only a couple of K, just try it out. Parse your damage/accuracy.

And yes, MNK AF1 sucks royally.

Hmmm, just food for thought, but the weapons with small delay and less damage give the mob more tp. Subtle blow helps, but I'd still rather keep my stronger yet slower weps.

Beat vs Impact
# Jun 29 2004 at 3:48 AM Rating: Decent
Impact Knuckles have served me well from like level 33 to like right now (level 44). But now that I look at it, I think I'm going to have to switch.

As far as the Beat goes, at first glance they seem pretty weak at only +4 damage. But when the Beat Knuckles have a 48 Delay while the Impact has like an 86 delay... the Beat is gonna hit almost twice as much.

Besides it seems that Strength modifiers are easier to find than Dex modifiers, so the +2 Dex modifier seems to be a slightly bigger advantage than the +1 strength and +3 accuracy. As the extra 5-10 points of damage you get from the Str modifier wont matter if you're missing 3-5% more of the time (missing and not doing any damage at all) becuase of your lower dexterity.

Its not 48 Delay vs. 86 Delay. You are forgetting the base delay for hand to hand, which should be 360 with Martial Arts II. So its 408 delay vs. 448 delay. Beat Cesti is not going to hit anywhere NEAR twice as much as the Impacts.
That is not true
# Jun 03 2004 at 6:01 PM Rating: Good
No AF is not always supposed to be the best for its level. This i have just seen for the first time and I'm a MNK lvl 39. It is considered good because of it's stats not DMG that is why things such as Valkurm hairpin and Leaping boots are worth so much... Plus they are a rare drop of a highly camped NM (Notorious Monster).
RE: That is not true
# Aug 19 2004 at 12:24 AM Rating: Good
Actually this AF is a Cesti too
Cesti's suck anyways and its sure bet that this is the best Cesti you can get at its lvl. Knuckles are always just more powerful... <.< hands down just better.
Well remember
# May 29 2004 at 7:36 AM Rating: Excellent
Well remember these are just the starting point to get the rest of the AF equipment...so while I do agree that they are not as good as some of the lower level stuff. *shakes head* honestly isn't AF equipment supposed to be the "best" for it's level? I still have to look through the other weapons to be sure and if it is the case that Square Enix nerfed this item badly
