i was a lvl 43thf/21nin and i was with a lvl 53 whm i had rabbit charm and key ring belt equipted so i had +2 steal i went to second lvl and pulleed a silver q and got it on second go
i was level 36 when I was only helping some friends kill the 20 copper quadavs.. well we had a lot of higher level players and someone was killing one of the quadav's from the upper level. I engaged.. was behind it and hit steal expecting if i got anything, it would have been a silver beastcoin.
Instead I got the quadav stew on my first try. I didn't even know what it was at the time. I'm just glad I don't have to keep trying to steal and zoning over and over.
Sorry but I had to post this, I had read that at level 40 I could start the THF AF1, so I decided to read up on it.Did not sound like it was to difficult so I had a few hours to kill last night and did it. I was on my way to Sandy to OP to Valkurm and talk the to Galka, but then I remembered that he was gonna ask fo rthe damn stew, might as well get that first, so I warped off the airship back to jeuno and switched to THF40/NIN20, grabbed a bird and headed to Beaudeu. When I got there I pulled one with a bloody bolt, Missed, it cast Firega on me taking out my shadows, tried sleep bolts, missed every single shot I tried, lol my cross bow is like 30 so Not worth the 60K I dropped on 3 sets of bloody and sleep bolts, ( I was planning on being there a while and wanted to be prepared) So after about 3 failed attempts, on the forth attempt, it linked about 4 other quadaves, then is Binded me >.<. Luckely it did ot stick and wore before the gang could get a hit in. I slapped flee and began to hall ass to the zone, but why waste a good chance to Jack this Zircon Quadav I think it was, so I ran straight into the Group of Quadavs, (MAn my Evasion kicks ass ^^) ran upto the Zircon and hit Steal, then I saw the beautiful text, Duel obtains Quadav Strew. so I am 1/4. I tried the {Flee} then running upto them as they were csating but I had no success, maybe cause I did not get straight behind them. I STOLE IT WHILE FACE TO FACE BTW ^^ Yessser I am to lucky
{Flee} /ra <t> >>>>>> Run like hell up to it Use steal then run back to the zone.

My simple message to you all is this "Do not engage when you try to steal the stew!"
I tried for a long time to get this both solo and with a friend. After about 10 or more unsuccessful steal attempts I was ++ frustrated. For some reason I tried to steal one time but had not actually engaged in the fight.
Fastforward 1 year. I had quit and restarted from scratch. Walk into bedeaux solo as 40 thf. Ask a friend for help to occupy this thing while I steal from it without engaging it. While waiting for him to show up I decide to pull one with ranged attack which, as you know, does not engaged the mob. I hit him with a bolt then a bloody bolt to get some HP back, then a sleep bolt - still not 'engaged' in the battle. While he is sleeping I steal from him ... 1/1 on this character!
I can confirm this, I was NOT getting anything for a long time, read this, tried it for myself and 1/1 on this attempt. Thanks for the post! Try this if you haven't already ^^b
*ps* Was from a Bronze and I'm currently level 41/20blm (for lolwarp)

Went two trips, as PLD64/THF32. First time I went 0/6 trying different ways like front, back, engaged, disengaged, etc.
Second trip I went 1/5.
Got it from a Silver Quadav, disengaged, from behind. However, I think it's just luck of the draw. Just keep at it.
This puts my AGI and DEX at +21 each, so I'm happy.

I went to Bedeaux as lvl 75blm/thf and stole the stew on the first try from a zircon quadav. When you go to steal the stew be sure to equip INT gear or go as a job with and already high INT rating.

I would like to say that i'm 1/2 for getting the stew i just ranged atk'd it and stole from the from the front off a silver Quadav while it was casting fire II on me and when i got it i just hit flee and zoned to the marshlands
grr... I hate you all. Currently 0/25+ that's including sleeping them and stealing from behind. Been here for over 2 hours /cry
*edit*
thanks haniblecter read your post after posting mine, walked in, seen a Bronze in range on the ledge, walked over, used steal and got it on the first attempt.
So the moral is DO NOT PULL FROM THE LEDGE your probably better off waiting until one walks onto the metal steps
I must be crazy lucky. Was in Beaduex farming Quadav Helms, killing oozes, and occassionally killing the few easy prey Quadavs as a 50 WAR/THF. Stole when one of these were at a sliver of life (from the front) and got the stew.
I might just keep this in the event I do take THF up to 40 (currently at 26).
Got the stew by accident, strangely. I was doing Bastok mission 3-1 with the 20 coppers and a garnet and zircon linked from the top tier. I died but vowed revenge. Went to kill the zircon after hiking back and decided to steal a coin from him, turned out to be the stew. Was kinda disappointed at first but after hearing how hard this supposedly is, I'm relieved. ^^
Pretty much same story here, was hunting a NM in the area and happened to try to steal a silver beastcoin, got a stew. A friend I was with at the time promptly informed me what it was for. I was happy :)

I did it today for a lvl40 THF friend of mine. I'm PLD55, and had subbed whm for soloing the mission 4-3. I enter beadeaux , cast Dia on a bronze quadav, my friend goes behind him and... Guizmo steals a Quadav Bew from the Bronze Quadav. 1st attempt. Moon 24%, Lightsday... and my friend didnt have any special gear. So, if you are lucky, its possible ^^

Quick note to those asking about how worthwhile this knife is: 1. you need your af knife before you can do any af quests or get coffers (though you prolly already knew that) 2. it's not the damage on this knife that's the most important, but the dex and agi +, higher dex = better sa damage, and higher ta = better sa damage. The dex and agi are the much higher benefit off this item, so use a damage knife (assuming you're thf/nin) in your main and af dagger in off hand to get bonus. By the way, I suggest looking at the thief job forum about the guids to sa and ta and how dex and agi affect both, it's got some good info for theifs that either have it or dont.
Scrolling through the responses here, I have seen a number of people asking if there is anything better to use at level 40. I cannot speak from experience, as my THF is still only level 37, but I would think that the Federation Kukri might be better than this knife when you are in areas outside your own nations control. The Fed. Kukri has the same DMG of 15, and a lower Delay of 182. It also has Accuracy +3. When in an area outside your nations control, you get Attack +7 from the Fed Kukri. I would say that Accuracy +3 and Attack +7 with same DMG and lower Delay outweigh 2 DEX and 2 AGI, especially when you consider all the other available bonuses to DEX and AGI out there (+21 and +16 respectively at level 37). That being said, this is a still a very good knife, and likely the better choice of the two when in an area your nation currently controls. Also, this one is free, whereas the Fed. Kukri is 50k at least on my server.

i did the stealing at lvl 36. i was /rng. i went by myself into beadux (spelling?) and it took me 6 tries. i just shot garnet quadavs, ran back to the zone, and just stole from the front while it was attacking me, (along with a massive train of weaker quadavs) and then fleed back to pashow marshlands. i found this to be very easy.
1st attempt: went to beadaux. tried the pulling method 5-6 times to no avail. I got nothing from any steal. tried engaging and not engaging. got pt invite so stopped.
2nd attempt: with a friend in rolanberry. he voked, i got behind and stole a beastcoin. Tried engaged and disengaged. silver beastcoin every time!
3rd attempt: beadaux. after 6 unsuccessful solo attempts with nothing stolen at all. i got too close to the edge and a silver agro'd me. I had heard that silver were the best to get from as they are thfs too. (why that matters idk). i didn't engage, but locked on to it and held the 6 on the key pad to run around it. it stopped to swing and i was behind it. I podged the steal macro and "voila" one stew!.
Key tips from my experience and advice i recieved while trying: 1) Beadaux, not rolanberry 2) take a friend, as it's easier to get behind if they take the aggro. 3) silvers are more likely to drop?
Last night at about 11pm, I travelled to Beaudeux, grabbed a quadav (think it was zircon and not silver) with /range, used steal, got the stew first shot, and walked out, Total time being in Beaudeux? rougly 2 minutes if that.. So i dont think pulling has any downgrade on steal ability during battle
You're a level 40 thief and you just said that... thank your power leveler for the quick levels, but not so much for the advice they gave you along the way. Being in battle DEFINATELY affects your chance of a successful steal, as does position to the mob. Just because you managed to steal doesn't mean that being in battle doesn't affect it. The percentages worked in your favour, that's all.
Yep...... just missed for the 13th time, silver quadav unaggroed from behind. most of the time I steal it's like that, I dont know what it is. The only thing i coudl think of would be that i dont have quest yet, but yall all say yall have gotten it long before..... Feel for me?
I did this last night as a 34THF/17NIN, it was too damn easy, i stoled it from a bronze quadav, in my 2nd attempt, just range attk any bronze, zircon, silver and garnet quadavs, go near zone then steal from them, i recommend this cuase they are T at lvl 34, and magic hits very hard, i prefer bronze quadavs cause they are weaker, zircon casted on me thundaga 2 times, leaving me in red ><, while bronze only casted banish II doing little damage to me, forget about being behind, i already ranged attk him and then used steal only for a 2nd time :P, maybe i was just lucky

Need to get your attn. Do not pull the quadav's off the ramp in beadaux. Just wait for them to come into steal range when you're one level bellow them. Your success rate will be ALOT higher than the saps who think you have to pull them off the ramp.
...alot higher.

"Seeing big red numbers gets me off more than big yellow ones."
Quick note: I did it your way about 40-50 times (most of the time was while I was waiting for ppl for 4-3)... Never got it. Person with me got theirs, but not one for me. Went back 3-4 times for another good dozen attempts. Almost always trying it your way. Finally had to go through pashow one day, and decided I was just going to try one more time... Went in, threw my boomerang, and stole from the quadav after it got down... Got it, so I ran to the zone and called it a day... I have been playing a thf for about 6 mnths now (don't ask about the lvl:). But I have not seen anything to indicate that anything other then chance dictates success of Steal. I do admit It seems that I succeed more often if I do not attack the mob (e.g. what I did above did not initiate attack). However, I attribute that to the fact that most mobs I fight to lvl off of do not have anything that can be stolen, and that I forget to steal during combat.
Got super lucky on this one. My LS was working on rank 5 for a bunch of people, myself included. A couple of us were just hanging out near the entrance cause we had fallen off higher level or just came late and hung out there. Anyway, me and a RDM are just killing stuff at random when he pulls a Silver Quadav. I steal from it, completely forgetting that it drops this item I need for AF1, and abracadabra there it is. Now I just need to get level 40. Not gloating or anything, just trying to reassure those who may be having difficulties with it. Good luck.
Same thing happened to me. I was helping some friends with rank 5 mission, and while waiting for Go'Bhu to spawn, we were killing any Quadavs nearby to pass the time. I stole from one just for the hell of it, and though the chat log was speeding along (I had forgotten to turn chat filters on, and we had like 7 or 8 people fighting 2 or 3 Quadavs at the moment), I could've sworn I saw the words 'Quadav Stew' fly by. I waited till the end of the fight, then checked my item list, and sure enough: Quadav Stew! My friend, who had done the quest for this before, had taken like an hour before he got this, so we were both surprised, considering this was the first time I ever even tried stealing from a Quadav in Beadeaux. Now I just have to get to level 40 and talk to some people. XD
sorry for double post BTW. anyway, I didn't find it as easy as the others that posted before. I was in the beadeax area for about 2 hours. I was stealing from Silver, Garnet and Zircon as they were casting. for one fight I waited until the Zircon was a little lower on health, and he (she?) casted Ore Toss. it has the same charge time as the Goblin Bomb. my steal was succesful. Just thought I'd let everyone know in case you were having trouble as I was. I hope this was helpful.
First you go talk to Nanhaa Mingo in Windhurts Woods I think J-3. She gives you a letter then you go to Jueno and head to the Tenshodo you will need an ivite that can be purchased for the AH in Lower Jueno for about 2k. Once you use it you get it back so you can sell again or just give it to a friend. Tenshodo or whatever it is is located at Neptunes Spire to the left of the AH in Lower Jueno as you face it. Talk to the lady in front there and give her the Tenshodo invite once you gain access talk to the man that you see first once you enter Tenshodo. He will tell you to go to Selbina and Talk to a man. Enter Slebina and go up to the left to Shepard's Muster and talk to the Blonde gal behind the counter. She will say something and Sneaking Tiger will appear behind you. This big ugly Galka will then say he will sign the envelope if you get him some Qudav Stew. You can steal this on your way from Jueno just head out through Pashow in the lower SE corner of the Pashow Map. Steal a stew from any Qudav on the upper level you will know what I am talking about when you get there use a ranged and run to the zone then steal and zone. Just keep trying It took me 3 times. (This will save you a step if you are heading this way) Beadeux is the place to steal the stew. So take the stew back to the Sneaking Galka guy and he will give you the signed envelope to take back to Jueno (Tenshodo). Give it to the same guy through the Tenshodo doors and DING!! Free Marauder Knife. I hope this helps and I didn't leave anything out. If I did feel free to add to it. or ask me anything on Quetzacoatl.

yea that would work, but whats the point? see those 2 icons "rare/exlusive"? u cant have 2 items of that kind. so even if u created another character and got this dagger, u couldnt send it to your other character to dual-equip. sorry, b/c that would be cool. u know what would be cooler? equipping dual yagudo freezers and pillaging giddeus! ^^
AF - artifact armor Rare - you can only carry one Ex - Exclusive, meaning you can't trade it. This dagger is thf af1, obtainable at lvl 40 by doing a quest for a mithra in windurst woods.
