Better Knife at 40...?

Scrolling through the responses here, I have seen a number of people asking if there is anything better to use at level 40. I cannot speak from experience, as my THF is still only level 37, but I would think that the Federation Kukri might be better than this knife when you are in areas outside your own nations control. The Fed. Kukri has the same DMG of 15, and a lower Delay of 182. It also has Accuracy +3. When in an area outside your nations control, you get Attack +7 from the Fed Kukri. I would say that Accuracy +3 and Attack +7 with same DMG and lower Delay outweigh 2 DEX and 2 AGI, especially when you consider all the other available bonuses to DEX and AGI out there (+21 and +16 respectively at level 37). That being said, this is a still a very good knife, and likely the better choice of the two when in an area your nation currently controls. Also, this one is free, whereas the Fed. Kukri is 50k at least on my server.

i did the stealing at lvl 36. i was /rng. i went by myself into beadux (spelling?) and it took me 6 tries. i just shot garnet quadavs, ran back to the zone, and just stole from the front while it was attacking me, (along with a massive train of weaker quadavs) and then fleed back to pashow marshlands. i found this to be very easy.

1st attempt: went to beadaux. tried the pulling method 5-6 times to no avail. I got nothing from any steal. tried engaging and not engaging. got pt invite so stopped.

2nd attempt: with a friend in rolanberry. he voked, i got behind and stole a beastcoin. Tried engaged and disengaged. silver beastcoin every time!

3rd attempt: beadaux. after 6 unsuccessful solo attempts with nothing stolen at all. i got too close to the edge and a silver agro'd me. I had heard that silver were the best to get from as they are thfs too. (why that matters idk). i didn't engage, but locked on to it and held the 6 on the key pad to run around it. it stopped to swing and i was behind it. I podged the steal macro and "voila" one stew!.

Key tips from my experience and advice i recieved while trying:
1) Beadaux, not rolanberry
2) take a friend, as it's easier to get behind if they take the aggro.
3) silvers are more likely to drop?
Very Easy!

How long should a THF use this dagger (assuming they are single wield THF/WAR)

I am level 50 and the dagger isn't "cutting" it anymore for DMG

Last night at about 11pm, I travelled to Beaudeux, grabbed a quadav (think it was zircon and not silver) with /range, used steal, got the stew first shot, and walked out, Total time being in Beaudeux? rougly 2 minutes if that.. So i dont think pulling has any downgrade on steal ability during battle

You're a level 40 thief and you just said that... thank your power leveler for the quick levels, but not so much for the advice they gave you along the way. Being in battle DEFINATELY affects your chance of a successful steal, as does position to the mob. Just because you managed to steal doesn't mean that being in battle doesn't affect it. The percentages worked in your favour, that's all.

Find Garnets and when they are about 1/3 through one of their spells, press the button. Worked for me, got it on my 2nd one.

I did this last night as a 34THF/17NIN, it was too damn easy, i stoled it from a bronze quadav, in my 2nd attempt, just range attk any bronze, zircon, silver and garnet quadavs, go near zone then steal from them, i recommend this cuase they are T at lvl 34, and magic hits very hard, i prefer bronze quadavs cause they are weaker, zircon casted on me thundaga 2 times, leaving me in red ><, while bronze only casted banish II doing little damage to me, forget about being behind, i already ranged attk him and then used steal only for a 2nd time :P, maybe i was just lucky

DO NOT PULL QUDAVS!
# Aug 30 2004 at 12:26 PM Rating: Decent
HELLO.

Need to get your attn. Do not pull the quadav's off the ramp in beadaux. Just wait for them to come into steal range when you're one level bellow them. Your success rate will be ALOT higher than the saps who think you have to pull them off the ramp.

...alot higher.

Quick note: I did it your way about 40-50 times (most of the time was while I was waiting for ppl for 4-3)... Never got it. Person with me got theirs, but not one for me. Went back 3-4 times for another good dozen attempts. Almost always trying it your way. Finally had to go through pashow one day, and decided I was just going to try one more time... Went in, threw my boomerang, and stole from the quadav after it got down... Got it, so I ran to the zone and called it a day...
I have been playing a thf for about 6 mnths now (don't ask about the lvl:). But I have not seen anything to indicate that anything other then chance dictates success of Steal. I do admit It seems that I succeed more often if I do not attack the mob (e.g. what I did above did not initiate attack). However, I attribute that to the fact that most mobs I fight to lvl off of do not have anything that can be stolen, and that I forget to steal during combat.

Got super lucky on this one. My LS was working on rank 5 for a bunch of people, myself included. A couple of us were just hanging out near the entrance cause we had fallen off higher level or just came late and hung out there. Anyway, me and a RDM are just killing stuff at random when he pulls a Silver Quadav. I steal from it, completely forgetting that it drops this item I need for AF1, and abracadabra there it is. Now I just need to get level 40. Not gloating or anything, just trying to reassure those who may be having difficulties with it. Good luck.

Same thing happened to me. I was helping some friends with rank 5 mission, and while waiting for Go'Bhu to spawn, we were killing any Quadavs nearby to pass the time. I stole from one just for the hell of it, and though the chat log was speeding along (I had forgotten to turn chat filters on, and we had like 7 or 8 people fighting 2 or 3 Quadavs at the moment), I could've sworn I saw the words 'Quadav Stew' fly by. I waited till the end of the fight, then checked my item list, and sure enough: Quadav Stew! My friend, who had done the quest for this before, had taken like an hour before he got this, so we were both surprised, considering this was the first time I ever even tried stealing from a Quadav in Beadeaux. Now I just have to get to level 40 and talk to some people. XD

sorry for double post BTW.
anyway, I didn't find it as easy as the others that posted before. I was in the beadeax area for about 2 hours. I was stealing from Silver, Garnet and Zircon as they were casting. for one fight I waited until the Zircon was a little lower on health, and he (she?) casted Ore Toss. it has the same charge time as the Goblin Bomb. my steal was succesful. Just thought I'd let everyone know in case you were having trouble as I was. I hope this was helpful.
some help if you need it.

First you go talk to Nanhaa Mingo in Windhurts Woods I think J-3. She gives you a letter then you go to Jueno and head to the Tenshodo you will need an ivite that can be purchased for the AH in Lower Jueno for about 2k. Once you use it you get it back so you can sell again or just give it to a friend. Tenshodo or whatever it is is located at Neptunes Spire to the left of the AH in Lower Jueno as you face it. Talk to the lady in front there and give her the Tenshodo invite once you gain access talk to the man that you see first once you enter Tenshodo. He will tell you to go to Selbina and Talk to a man. Enter Slebina and go up to the left to Shepard's Muster and talk to the Blonde gal behind the counter. She will say something and Sneaking Tiger will appear behind you. This big ugly Galka will then say he will sign the envelope if you get him some Qudav Stew. You can steal this on your way from Jueno just head out through Pashow in the lower SE corner of the Pashow Map. Steal a stew from any Qudav on the upper level you will know what I am talking about when you get there use a ranged and run to the zone then steal and zone. Just keep trying It took me 3 times. (This will save you a step if you are heading this way) Beadeux is the place to steal the stew. So take the stew back to the Sneaking Galka guy and he will give you the signed envelope to take back to Jueno (Tenshodo). Give it to the same guy through the Tenshodo doors and DING!! Free Marauder Knife. I hope this helps and I didn't leave anything out. If I did feel free to add to it. or ask me anything on Quetzacoatl.

Wondering..can you do this af-quest twice?
RE: ?
# May 10 2004 at 10:23 PM Rating: Default
If you created another character made it a thf and got it to lv 40 you could.
RE: ?
# Jul 02 2004 at 7:21 PM Rating: Decent
yea that would work, but whats the point? see those 2 icons "rare/exlusive"? u cant have 2 items of that kind. so even if u created another character and got this dagger, u couldnt send it to your other character to dual-equip.
sorry, b/c that would be cool.
u know what would be cooler? equipping dual yagudo freezers and pillaging giddeus! ^^

AF - artifact armor
Rare - you can only carry one
Ex - Exclusive, meaning you can't trade it.
This dagger is thf af1, obtainable at lvl 40 by doing a quest for a mithra in windurst woods.
