20 stacks of moss from Zero Fame only got me to Level 7 fame in Sandy.
Going rate for a stack in sandy is currently 10-12k.
This run also allowed me to run to Jeuno and get Gobbie Bags 1-6.
Outrageous!

Seraph Server is now selling for at least 10k a stack in Jeuno, and not selling at all in the 3 countries.. Maybe best to just camp and gets drops.

when the gobbues in pashow are easy prey to you, you can farm these and gain fame and xp at the same time.

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.
Which fame what?

In conjunction with the La Theine Cabbage and Millioncorn, which items raise which fame, does anyone know for certain yet?

just to resolve this issue once and for all (yeah, right like THAT'S going to happen):

whether you hadn in corn, cabbage or moss, you are doing multiples of the same repeatable quest. You get the sme amount of fame whether you hand in once your amount of cabbage, or once your corn or once your moss. One sort of vegetable does not give more or less fame, nor raise fame specifically in one single town.

When doing the "Only the Best" quest, the only thing to consider is the "quest event" number - in other words, how many times do you get that little trumpet fanfare saying that you "finished the quest".

Going by equal stacks of veggies, consider the following (I believe I'm remembering the amounts of each requested veggie correctly, if not, please correct me):
5 stacks of cabbage = 12 distinct quest events (5 cabbage per)
5 stacks of corn = 20 distinct events (3 corn per)
5 stacks of moss = 60 distinct events (1 moss per)

so consider the price of each stack of veggie, and the number of distinct quest events that those stacks will get you, as well as the reward, and you will come up with a number that will let you know which one is the most cost efficient for raising fame. Millioncorn appears to be the answer to this ever popular conundrum, since right now Boyahda moss is selling for around 6k a stack in Bastok on my server, while corn is considerably cheaper from an NPC.

Unfortunately, it's been nearly a year since I finished this quest so I can't remember just how many stacks of corn I traded in to get my hero fame in Jeuno (strangely, with no quests in Windurst -I'm from Bastok- and only a few Sandorian quests done, after finishing feeding the sheep I had fame 9 not only in Bastok and Sandy, but Jeuno as well).

Think about that, you get 600G per boyahda moss trade-in. If you can buy moss for 6000G on your server you would MAKE 1200g per stack profit... and would have to buy less physical stacks to get max fame. assuming no fame, 10-12 stacks would max you out.

Say 10 stacks, and about 30 mins to trade them all you would make 12k profit and max out all your fame. Where as if you used the cabbage route, or the other one.. you would ahve to trade alot more stacks just to match that fame. Do some simple math and boyahda moss is the best bet for fame, assuming you can get stacks of moss for 7200g or less.. if you can get for 7200 you break even and max ur fame. It's a large expense up front, but you get most if not all of that gil back.

When i did this quest like 2 years ago moss was 8000G, so i lost 800g per stack, lost a total of like 13k and had max rabao / jeuno / bastok / sandy fame. Fair trade-off if you ask me.

The NPC is named Melyon. He's a fat hume standing near the Home Point crystal with the two sheep.

Yes you can get Hero Fame in Sandy, Bastok and Jeuno with this means. I went there and I believe it took me around 10-12 stacks to max it from just about no fame so....

Keep in mind that you do get a return from this quest so its not really that expensive to max your fame in certain cities with this quest.

On the other hand I have heard rumors that it decreases your Norg fame but have not confirmed this so maybe someone else can jump on that one.

I think if you pay around 80k for the Moss you will need to max or come close to maxing your fame.

After the return of gil from the quest it maybe around 20k cost outta your pocket when said and done. Which, if you think about it, is not a bad way to max it easily.

Hope this helps,

Mohoso

p.s. some of the cities listed above may be inaccurate. (it has been a very long time since I have done that quest so please take some of this with a grain of salt.)

Well, you shouldn't do that. You should trade one by one, since trading 12 or 1 will give you different gil but only one point of fame.
RE: stacks
# Jul 06 2004 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
actually, you can't trad ehim a whole stack at a time, just like most quest NPCs, he'll only take what he wants, which is one from the stack. Of course the fame and the gil will be the same when you look at it, because from the stack you traded to him, he only took 1 moss. So basically, you just have to trade the stack, he takes one, rewards you for the one he took, talks a little, then you do it over and over until you traded the whole stack to him.
So when you try to trade a whole stack to him, he will only take one.
how?
# Feb 27 2004 at 12:53 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, you say that he only wants one and you can trade him 12 times for a net profit of 7200 gil. I'm wondering, can you say trade him a stack, then zone out and get more, then go back and trade him some more again? Or is it like once you zone, then thats it?
RE: how?
# Mar 02 2004 at 8:01 AM Rating: Decent
You do not have to zone to begin with. You can trade him the items he asks for until you do not have any more in inventory ... there is no need to zone to do this quest.

RE: where?
# Feb 24 2004 at 11:08 AM Rating: Default
You find them in Pashow. It raises fame really fast for Bastok and Sandy. The guy just wants 1 to complete the quest. If you stack them, you'll be able to complete it 12 times and that's without having to zone. They usually go for 600 gil at the AH (Diablos Server) and what's great, when you give him 1, he gives you 600 gil. It's an even trade that raises fame.
