This sword belonged to Queen Mariline d'Oraguille's bodyguard, whose loyalty to his queen is legendary.
If Final Fantasy XI was an offline game with the same storyline (up until Chains of Promathia), it would've been one of the greatest RPGs ever made.
it's the second most beautiful sword in the game after sanguine sword
The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.

so many people have problems thinking outside the box.
I just recently purchased this sword for 90k on unicorn.
from my understanding its said the latent effect is during cover.
If that is true, why not 'keep the sword equipped'
cover's cool down is very short. build tp to 100+ use an equip macro
for acc/str/mnd gear. then cover someone before you WS? O_o
seeings how both vorpal blade and swift blade are multiple hits, i see
this sword eliminating spirits within and bringing in more hate with a
300-450dmg hit per every 100tp as opposed to 500-700dmg every 300tp.
the cover+1 effect would also make this easier to do.
Moreover, The nin sub is a good idea for some situations, but in exp party i stick to the ways pld was meant to tank. war sub also offers an str boost and berserk, much more suitable for the modifiers. =)
when to cover and ws (example: before your first voke in battle)
after all, i don't know about other plds but I personally gain atleast 100tp

This sword isnt useless. I can see it used in macro for cover, or something along thos line's. But I know there are some better weapons out there that probably would be more useful for PLD.

Oh! So they did accept it. ^^ That's me, Eufrasi of Kujata server. I must say that this sword was worth the 150k I payed for it, even if I only used it for a single level before I upgraded to an Espadon.
Kinda annoying Save the Queen is 200k on AH, while Enhancing Sword is 9 million...

Also fyi (just in case nobody said this) this item's latent effect activates when you use cover. A very fitting name to the latent effect's trigger. Although a more accurate name would b "Save the Black/White mage" or somethin along those lines lol.

No offense, but you have obviously never played a tank job, or if you have, have been unfortunate to do so with very underpar DD's.
Hate managment is the entire PT's responsibility, and noone can keep hate if someone decides that they absolutely want it right then.
Please do yourself a favor, and read some of the posts on Hate control, before making broad (and incorrect) statements on a public forum.

Does anyone know what the duration increase is for cover? I figure if anything you could Dual Wield 2 of these subbing Ninja during an HNM fight when you aren't the main tank. Put up your shadows then run in and cover occasionally to give the main tank a breather. Once your shadows run out or cover duration is over, move out of the way again.
And I'll say it again, the vast majority of the community firmly believes that +20 Accuracy is only in effect when Cover is active. They're probably correct :/

It is a long sword, and it does improve Acc, by a good noticeable amount. It certainly is not a peice of crap, it has its uses just like any other weapon... as they say, one mans junk is another mans treasure. I am a 75 pld and I've used this sword from 65, alternating with Durandal when I need the def boost.

This sword sucks, it doesn't provide any use for pld, it could work if you macros to equip it when cover is active, but kind of worthless in my opinion.

I disagree, I think that although the sword is only good when covor is active, it's a great sword to use in EXPing while switching Company Sword in for the times you are not planning on using covor, or the times you don't.

let's see... Beatrix had this sword in FFIX and Quitis in FFVIII had a whip named Save the Queen. I also think that you can make this sword in FFX... but whatever, this is a great sword :)

Hey man, I spent 31 lvs as a whm/war before switching to a drk/war. I never had any problems with mp, and i could contribute to melee better than most melee jobs (with a hammer anyway). As long as I had a good tank then there are no problems (but then again, I always have good tanks, inferior players get the boot from my parties.)

Carbuncle PLDs are Gluttony happy until they can equip the Durandal which i think is around 3-5million (not too sure)... I got my Save the Queen for 70k :/

NOw wouldn't you do a PLD/NIN with this just like you said, but then add + enmity gear so you get hate more. YOu would hit harder getting for hate that way and then there are the + enmity gera you could have as well. I would like to see PLD without the WAR sub more often, but then again you could just not be tank. . .
apperantly, a friend of mine went to an exp party as pld53/whm26 (forgot to change sub) and was able to control hate without difficulty, and was actually complimented on his tanking by other party members.

Cover enhanced comes in handy with high damage people in party. RNGs will love this sword !

From my experience, the latent trigger is indeed yellow hp. I came to this conclusion by comparing hit rates with Gluttony Sword, Espadon and Save the Queen. I kept a "steep" DEX penalty on, so that the effect of Accuracy+20 would be more noticeable. Simply put, staying around yellow HP and fighting VT->IT mobs, the Save the Queen had a higher hit rate by about 15% over the course of an hour vs. an hour each for the other two swords. Cover was never used.
The Save the Queen's hit rate should be higher than Gluttony, because of the DEX penalty (albeit only DEX-1). However, the Espadon and Save the Queen both have no DEX penalty. And the hit rate for the Save the Queen was still better.
I pack the Save the Queen with me myself and am grateful that I bought it cheap from a PLD that thought it was a piece of crap.

I prefer Gluttony anyday over Save the Queen, latent effect is close if not already worthless, especially for a PLD that has to have HP up in case of an special attack that might kill when life is on yellow.

A Japanese friend of mine said that Ulitma Weapon and other FF goodies are only used by GM's. I could be wrong, I'm just a noob ^.^

Wrong. There are many different ways that latent effects are triggered. <Yellow HP is just one of those and mainly applies to the lv50 Job-specific rings, not this sword.
All latent effect means is that a certain condition has to be met before it will work.

Save The Queen was also a whip used by Quistis in FFVIII if I'm correct. Guess it might be a tradition, like the Enhancing Sword goes back to FFVI, Leviathan goes back to FFV, and there's been a "Cid" in every Final Fantasy game

i'm not exactly sure what latent effect is but if you look it up in the dictionary i think it means present but not visible or some nonsense like that
Latent pretty much means hidden. Hence the fact that people have to find out how to activate the effect.
Blatent, being the opposite of latent, is obvious. Like this is a blatently crappy sword, since everyone knows PLD don't do dmg outside of spirits within.

well thats not technically true...the other day i did a 426 swift blade + 566 darkness off a distortion...the party coudlnt believe it and neither could i.
and no i had no DD gear at all i had normal tank stuff

They have an Ultima sword and I've seen pics of a Masamune around as well. Check the forums at FFXIonline.com I'm too tired to post the link.
Perhaps it's a PAL with NIN subbed wearing 2?

You get this By killing Antican Praefectus, but he aint all that easy. You will at least need a well trusted party of 70+, With the new lvl Cap a good lvl 75 might be able to solo it.

This is the first "unique" sword that I have noticed in the game that is sorta nostalgic for the series. I'm sure there are other weapons in this game that have been in the series, but I'm referring to the more powerful "unique" weapons like the Masamune, Holy Lance, Excalibur, Atma/Ultima Weapon... Its good to find that the game is grasping on to some of the nostalgia that helps make the series as great as it is. I hope to see more of these pop up!
