The reason a bastard sword is called a bastard sword is because "it has no father" meaning that it is most commonly used as a two-handed-sword though it has the characteristics closer to that of a one-handed-sword (size and length)
This Darksteel Bastard Sword can only be lifted by the strongest of adventurers!
If Final Fantasy XI was an offline game with the same storyline (up until Chains of Promathia), it would've been one of the greatest RPGs ever made.
bastard sword was used in afew rpg's and they were able to kill certain mobs i forget which but most of the time it was 1 hit kill

Yes a Bastard Sword is commonly known as a hand-and-a-half sword. Typically used in a sword/shield combo, though popularly used two-handed for more power.

Techincally, a Bastard sword was a one handed sword. It was bigger than the "common" one handed sword but smaller than the "broad sword/great sword" I haven't seen to many of these on the Remora server. But this might be a good sword to get.

A Bastard sword has a longer handle than one-handed swords. It is technically like one and a half a handle. It is a in-between two-handed swords and one-handed swords.

All one-handed swords are just called "Sword."
