If anything, the -10 will INCREASE hate. You are now hitting the mob less charasmatically, causing more hate. Befoer the wars/pld/nin come in and call me a dumbass because their AF gets +CHR, please remember that provoke is different than attacking. If you provoke a mob with +Chr you are essentially charasmatically telling the mob to pay attention to you. Anyway...

The real reason that I am posting here is because I too popped on of these and it lasted for 3 hours. I'm curious what other stats were changed with this.

I know about the SE comment.

I have been told, however, by a pld friend, that he thinks that CHR affects the rate of emnity decay. He believes that the spike from provoke lasts longer with more CHR.

not exactly sure if its true or not, and there are people who will argue that brds should never lose hate, in that case. but I dont see a brd generating more hate than a pld. if a brd cought aggro from a pld, then it might take longer for the mob to turn back to the pld. A brd generates such little hate in the later levels, that I dont see any reason why this theory on CHR couldnt be considered.

(let me re-state some points for those who dont comprehend too well and just want to argue... I said that charisma MIGHT affect the RATE of emnity decay. I did not say that it increases emnity or reduces emnity.)

It makes alot of sense, but CHR dosnt really seem to do much for other characters other then brd though...

Just my thoughs, but the saying "If you're doing somthing right, no one will notice" pops in my head, guess you would really have to test this out, but thre isnt much CHR+ a tank job can wear.

SE said so themselves. CHR affects provoke, but other than that has no relation to hate.
RE: updates

Ummm....You seem to have misread the interview.

"The charisma attribute score does not affect enemy hate or enmity(aggro). It does, however, affect how a bard's songs and a beastmaster's charm ability are not only used but also resisted. There are also weapon skills that are greatly affected by charisma."

SE said so themselves. CHR does NOT affect provoke.

As previously posted, just because SE didn't say it affects provoke, doesn't mean it doesn't. I havn't seen any Pld responding to this thread, so i'll throw my 2 cents in. i'm currently a 73 pld, did some testing on DC mobs with a friend in kuftal tunnel (i just tried to use auto translate for that lol). Provoking at the start of a fight w/ +15 chr, and doing nothing else, i usually can hold hate from my drk homie for 12-15 seconds before he takes hate with DD. doing the same with +0 chr, about 7 seconds, with - chr, almost no affect. Drk is 71 and does consistant damage. IMO it affects the duration of the hate spike caused by voke.

Did you find some proof elsewhere?

The interview didn't say anything about Provoke and CHR. You can't just assume that Provoke isn't affected by CHR because they didn't mention it. That's like "knowing" that I have brown eyes because I DON'T have green or blue ( when in truth they are grey ).

I don't know the answer either way...just don't assume things.

Nope, but it does greatly affect several sword weapon skills. That's most likely PLD's and RDM's have +CHR in their AF. This is great ninja food, not so great for everyone else but the +10 accuracy can come in handy.

ok, because of my RL schedual, I'm stuck playing about 2am on up...getting an english party is very hard for me because of this fact. Anyways, about a week ago, i got on as a L24 warrior/12 monk in the first jungle...the leve; group was 25-27 before i showed up. I offered to leave when i saw the level gap, but the said they didn't mind, and i was getting pretty desperate for xp.

Anyways, I was shunted of to the side as a minor DD, as there was already a warrior in the group. War, monk, whm, blm, drk, and me. I went through the first fight, really being an XP leech, which i hated. I had just gotten 2 of these pumpkins, and decided to test one out. Long story short, I became the new tank after one fight-I was getting missed more than the other warrior {he was an elvaan, I was a mithra}, plus my parrying skill was up high already from thief and red mage. Add the +5 acc bonus that my Gaxe {neckhopper} gave me, I was smacking things with +15 acc, and parrying/evading more times per fight then i can remember. Long story short...no one buy these, cause i don't want the price to skyrocket ^^

Random Suspicion

Here's my random suspicion. I was trading in Saruta Oranges moving between npcs and zoning once I'd hit all of them in the zone. Then zoning back in and starting all over again. Well, time went by and I had gotten one or two of these and that was all after going through 3 stacks of oranges. Then, being randomly curious and more than a little bored, I used this item on myself. At first all I saw was the -10 CHR (booo!) but then I noticed that my odds of getting items from the NPCs during the halloween events increased significantly. I had gotten 6 more of these, 1 Trick Staff, 1 Pumpkin Head, and 1 Pumpkin Head II in 2 more stacks of Saruta Oranges. This could be just random luck, but it could also mean that your odds of getting stuff from the NPCs is directly related to your CHR. That's my random suspicion anyways.

LMAO you guys dont have to spend so much on oranges and eating those dam pumpkins which last 60mins >_< lol. If any of you had read the information center in the Playonline Menu regarding the new festivities you would know that getting the NPC's to give you better stuff takes giving them different treats (i.e. Orange then a Pie then a Cookie then a Chocalate... etc ...not in any order...) It said it plain as day "You wouldnt want to get the same treat over and over on halloween would you?"
RE: Random Suspicion
# Oct 31 2004 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
On the other hand, myself and most of my LS friends got all the items using only oranges. Some of us spent 5K total some, like me, had to spend 60K to get everything.

It is mostly luck and also it seems that certain cities are prone to different prizes.

I've now tried your method, but for as much as I wanted the food to affect the prize rate, it didn't seem to create a noticable difference. I used the food and traded 30+ stacks and zoned after hitting every NPC. Once the food wore off I traded in another 15 stacks and it still seemed about the same. I'm gonna do another hour with food, but I expect little or no effect.

I just tried the jack-o-lantern trick myself and it worked! One stack of oranges per item so far. It's such an increase in drop rate that you can't simply say it's luck. I got four items in four stacks of oranges, instead of one item every 3 stacks.
Price on Seraph
# Oct 26 2004 at 12:13 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, has something about this item changed drastically or are their perhaps two types running about out there cause I just checked the price for this on Seraph and its selling for like 300G not near the 1.2k that was mentioned in previous posts. And for what it gives up above 300G is way more than just a steal.

Currently these are being given out as a prize for the Halloween event, along with some Hats and Staffs.. that's why the price has dropped, on all servers.
Drk who wants to know something about the bonuses

This item gives +25 Darkness. Does this mean that I get more power when I hit a monster with Dark based spells or weapon skills like "Dark Harvest", it works better? like I eat one of these and then Dark Harvest gets to be like Shadow of Death?

Also, if i have + darkness, am I "MORE" suceptable to dark based debuffs? (Bio, Sleep)

When you have +25 dark it's resistance. Have someone cast a bar-something spell on you and then check your equipment, and look at all the little colored circles. Those are your resistance stats against specific elements (affected by equipment). A good example is the scorpion harness. It has ice-20. This means it will be somewhat harder for you to resist a spell like paralyze. I'm guessing it would apply to ice-based nukes on you as well.

Does this mean though, that if I use "Dark Harvest", will it be weaker? I don't think it would, but I am not sure.

No, it has no effect on your attacks. Only defense. You'll take less damage from Dark spells like Bio and Drain, plus you'll resist Dark debuffs better like Sleep and Blind.

Hmmm... there is mention in the ever trusty guide book... But knowing its accuracy with other subjects...

Do these pumpkins also add arcana killer? For those that dont know, this means that when arcana are targeting you, sometimes they will be "intimidated" by your presence, just like PLD and undead.

Please dont say no arcana if you have never fought arcana with this active. ^^ People rarely hunt arcana for XP as I understand, so it would require someone using this for farming, or specifically to test for this hidden effect.

I think included in arcana are Bombs (Will-o'-Wisp), Weapons (Poltergiest), Golems, and Dolls.... THough not sure.

Anyways, someone pop one of these and go target some arcana. See if you dont get arcana killer added?

a friend let me try one when i fought Dark Spark the other day, and he was intimidated by me. so yes, this does definately have the Arcana killer effect ^^ I was rather shocked when that happened, then realized it must have been the food. I plan on trying it out in an xp party soon to put the +acc and +eva to the test ^^

I'm actually gonna use these to level up my WAR. I need it to 27 for a sub and eating these will make it much easier on my pt for so many reasons. And keeping hate will be a synch with a Great Axe and very few misses^^. Thank goodness I can cook them with ease.

Plus they are 1 hour food, meaning I can make 12 and have them last a very long time.

Just make a note, these don't stack, so, making 12 would take up 12 spots in inventory. I usually just carry enough to last the amount of hours I plan to exp, usually only around 2-3 hours at a time, sometimes up to 5 hours

Yeah, I already knew, and was saddened by, the fact that they don't stack.

I just brought the ingredients and crystals and had two in my inventory at a time. I tested them vs. Mithkabobs when I wasn't tanking and was very impressed.

With the Mithkabob I missed half the time, often more than half, which is just pathetic. I took one of these and barely missed, although I still had the occasionally bad streak where I mised a lot. I don't care how good Mithkabobs are, if I can't hit anything it doesn't matter, does it? ^^
jeuno ah price
# Oct 03 2004 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
well just started making these for a mnk/sam in my ls and was checking the AH price in jeuno and low and behold 1.5k-2k each since they don't stack! Well at an avr of 1.75K ea and bees wax selling for around 13k and pumpkins at 2.7k and fire crystals at 2.7k plus jeuno tax u could make a small profit or break even if u shop these items at AH. These price are on the Bismarck server.

Where to buy Ogre pumpkins

When the beastmen are in control of Elshimo (which is almost always the case :|) you can buy Ogre pumpkins from a child mithra under the Ru'Lude Gardens AH in Jeuno. As you're going to the AH make a left and take the stairs that lead down below. BTW when a nation has control of the Elshimo Lowlands, this mithra will not sell these. You'll have to buy your Ogre Pumpkins from the Regional vendoer of the nation that controls Elshimo Lowlands at the time.

Hope this helps ^^
Why so rare?
# Sep 26 2004 at 2:26 PM Rating: Decent
These things simply don't sell on Caitsith. I think two have sold in the past several months in Jeuno. Looks like they used to be semi-popular as a powerleveling synth, as they used to sell regularly for a pittance in Windurst, but they're nowhere to be found now.

Hopefully by later today I'll be able to make them. Looks like they'll cost 1250 per synth and be dependent on Elshimo not being overrun, but I figure as a fisherman and RNG/NIN I have plenty of justification to level cooking into the high 30s anyway.

Yes I have done the mob check test, and I can say for sure this food gives you an ACC bonus. Since the guide is the only source that has said this, I'm pretty sure they're also right on the amount of ACC it gives you (+10).

BTW leveling cooking to 35 isn't as hard or as expensive as you might think. 75K can get you to that lvl. If you're intersted in this pumpkin, lvling cooking is probably the best way to get it.

Checked a mob with high evasion, ate a Jack-o-Lantern, checked it again and it was normal evasion. This tells me that it has +acc bonus.
Also, i've tested the Arcana Killer effect with pots and it worked.
