Im currently at 300 + leech kills ... mainly in valkurm, burb , the maze... solo..
I would like to point out during my first lvling to 30 i came across 10 rubies from acrophies but being the nice galka that i am i let the people who really are probably gonna use them for more than just fun :)
I honestly dont think they drop from any leech other than acrophies...

I went Ruby hunting with 4 people, and we started in Qufim hunting Acrophies. Found one there, but decided it was too slow. On the advice of a high level thief, we went to Buburimu Pennisula to fight Poison leeches on the beach west of Mhaura. Found the next three rubies there, rather quickly (except for mine, which took forever).
I have a theory however, that it might be linked to who does the killer blow on the mob. As weird as that sounds, it just seemed like we never got rubies on kills in which the killer already had a ruby in his inventory. As a Red Mage, I rarely got the last hit in, so when I was in a group of 4 with everyone else having a ruby, i never got it. It wasn't until I did it solo that I found mine.

me and a buddy of mine was looking to get ruby so we went to buburimu peninsula and we got first ruby on the first kill and the other ruby on the fourth kill
the spot we went was to left of entrance to mhaura down the ramp

i dont know the zone name, but, just outside of mahura, head north.. uhh... left... there is a ramp that leads down to a beach took me about 20 min of killin the Poision Leeches there to get mine, got all the elements in 2 hours (whm teleport ^_^)

Granted I'm a 51 THF, but I've been able to get an average of 1/10 kills to drop the ruby for friends and passerby's that are willing to buy my help. (I'm out there logging a lot when not leveling.)
I got this is buburimu peninsula in 1 hour with the help of my lvl 30 thf friend, i am now a lvl 18 smn ^^

It took me almost 2 weeks of fighting leeches on and off to get a ruby. During that time I spent a lot of time in Quifm. I will suggest a way to get one and wish you all luck.
My friend wanted a ruby so we tele'd into the Quifm OP. I said follow me and took him (55whm) south into that hallway-like area just south of the tower past the Spine. There's a crab that will spawn right in the middle of that area. I said 'Ok kill that crab.' He looked at me funny but we killed it. I pulled a leech from the North with Dia down into the middle of that area. Took us about 20 seconds to dispatch that leech. Bam, it dropped, first kill. My friend still looked at me funny but it was in a different way :P Grand total quest time for that outing was about 5 minutes.
This is the same way I got mine. Take it with a grain of salt. I was subbing Thief for TH. Really...it's a must if you wanna be sure to get it as quickly as possible. /t me if you're on Valefor I will help.

Like I said earlier,I got it in two hours on the peninsula (at the beach). We killed somewhere between 50 and 100 leeches. All we had was a RDM and THF. At 25th level,some leeches con easy,some con even. Both can be defeated by 25th level RDM.They con easy and weak to a 28 THF. The evens are a little on the dangerous side though if your alone at 25. A bogy spawns there at night.He cons even too,but I wouldnt try to take him alone. Bogeys undercon,so its really iffy if you can take him.Also be carefull of water elementals there. One spawns there,and while I havent had it happen there, they can spawn behind you during a battle,then agro on your magic. Between the THF and I, we were able to easily defeat the bogey and do about 6-8 leeches before resting for a bit,so our leech kill rate was rather high. The secret is a THF,and perseverence.

I've killed over 200 of these and still no ruby's. This is starting to be a waste of my time. I was wondering if there was any thiefs in Behamenth's server that would like to help me out?
Im 25 RDM. I spent about an hour or two killing these at the beach on the peninsula with a 28thf. They were easy to take down. I got the ruby,so I know it does in fact drop there.Make sure you have a thf there. I got about 1300 xp off them,and was getting 10-25xp each for them. Figure that makes about 50-80 leaches killed.

Friend and I got one at beach in Buba after killing 20 leeches. They were 'too weak' to me and 'easy' to him.

Why is it that evertime one of these drops in bubu, my lot is like 43 while everyone elses is above 400. I hate the lotting thing.
Anyways, I have seen these drop about 5 times on Bubu beach, always one thf in the party. Only took about 10 hours to see 5 of them. Without thf, I have never seen it drop.
But I'm not saying that its a must.

I actually got my Ruby off of a Poison leech in Ordells Caves.. There is one round room its small and its got about 10 leeches in it.. Nobody was there so I pulled them into the tunnel to fight. They do aggro and link... I made the mistake and had 2 link up so I killed all 3 and got the Ruby. I am a 41PLD and I used my 15THF as sub for treasure hunter. It took me a whole 10 minutes to get one.

Well, its me again, I got to level 28, then came back solo... fought about 10 and got ruby.
I guess I am not that unlucky after all.

Also forgot to add, it seems like they will only drop at bubu while your highest level says they are Incredibly tough. I went back after lvl 20 and never seen one all night (with 2 thf in pt lvl 20)

I believe that some people are just lucky and other's aren't...perhaps the lucky ones got their rubies after the unlucky ones quit. I've heard that the ruby has a 1% chance of dropping off of leeches in qufim and buru. I have yet to get the darn thing, but by God, we've got to try something!

I'm on Alexander server, and I've been hunting Qufim for 2wks now with multiple people~
Can't find one ruby -.-
Each day of those two weeks, at least 6hrs is devoted to Ruby Hunting too~

We killed leeches in Valkrum forever, and when a DRK helped me kill 2 of them, it dropped. It IS easier to get it in Qufim; you people have no clue what you're talking about.

Qufim isn't exactly the BEST place to get it, but it's the best place to get it before you go for summoner. Also, without at least one thief in your team, you're not going to see many. (Multiple THF's = stacked Treasure Hunter)
As for odds, no definitive odds are given, but when I killed leeches in Ordella recently I didn't see one all night, while at Qufim I'd see at least 2 a day. (Grand total of 9 passed on ><)

If the THFs are above level 45, then yes, having THFs helps.
Treasuer Hunter(level 15) increases the amount of common drops.
Treasure Hunter II(level 45) increases the amount of rare drops.
Carbuncle's Ruby is rare, so only THII affects the drop rate.

I did nothing but kill acros in Qufim exclusively from 26-30. Only saw it drop one time in the days spent there (although i got it! :D ). IMO, Qufim really isn't the best place to hunt them...

spend at 3 hour killing at least 50+ poison leechs.. at Bub Pen... is it really possible for the ruby to drop there? i went on the beach on directly left of the town exit...

YEAH GOT ONE THE FIRST LEECH I KILLED ^^ FARMED ABOUT 5 OF THEM THEN KILLED IFIRIT AT LVL 12 SOLO. TALK ABOUT LUCKY ALSO FINISHED ALL FLAG QUESTS IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES!!!!! WOW

Solo'd leeches for around 2 days. first in valcrum then i ran over to Bub pen. and killed poison leeches. Must have spent around 10 or so hours. As a whm i don't think it was possible to solo them at level 30. but i had Bst sub leveled up to 15 and it was insanely easy to charm kill um. eventually got my ruby =)

I solo-ed leeches which were easy prey to me, and I got the ruby at the 4th poison leech killed. It all just goes down to your lucky
