in addition to the places mentioned in the quest description, I have also seen leeches in Korroloka Tunnel drop the Carbuncle Ruby. I actually obtained mine while I was on my way to complete the Ninja quest-- my Samurai friend decided to go Tachi-crazy on a room full of leeches, and POP! there it was. =)
Today while I was getting my bst but it was morning so a dragoon helped me get it! It only took like 5mins for it SWEET!!
do the leeches in Zehurn mines drop this thing?

First of all it does exist you just have to be persistent. I got the ruby by myself at the big beach in Buburimu Peninsula. I did it by myself playing as a Rdm29/Blm13. The leeches are poison and also used DrainKiss on me at times. In the battles i first cast Dia then Slow and had Blazing Spikes already cast on me. Take your time and it will come. I killed 42 before I got it. Play as a group if you are lower levels and watch for occasional ghost at night on beach. But it is quiet and you should just relax and remember the it will feel even better when you get it. Also cool movie music from old ff with clip when you go to hero's house in Windy.

i have a level 30 warrior / 14 monk but before i did this quest i decided to get my thief to lvl 15 to sub for treasure hunter.. i went with another friend that was also a 30war/15thf and we both got the ruby in under 2 hours.. the first one we got in about 25 minutes.. the second took about an hour and a half..

I have been searching for this RUBY forever i have killed around 2000 leeches in Qufim/Bub.Penisula and all i get is Fiend Bloods. this quest is the worst of them all.
just unlucky. was with a 41 thf in qufim and got both within two hours. now im just waitin on the fire weather.
God i wish i had this thing... i spent too long vll ing my other jobs.. im currently WHM 9 RDM 9 and BLM 9, sigh i wish there was a faster way to level up... if anyone has any tips send em to inutaisho@pol.com cause i almost never go on my hotmail anymore...

ya, leeches drop this. stick to the sands near Mahura in the penninsula. Good luck! <('.'<)

this thing is impossible...was at it for hours upon hours at bubu..(bubu..lol) this is F'n im possible to get..on top of that u have to witness the elements. the quest should just consist of actually ataining the damn thing.. lets vote..all in favor say AYE...

I just did this quest with my girlfriend Sakee, and another friend Aleksei, on the Q. server, and we got it on the first poison leech we killed. So definately go to bubu to get this item!!
I got my ruby with help from my high level thf friend. He got 5 for people yesterday in about a couple hours time, and here is the secret (I think) to his success. It was full moon at the time when we were getting it.
He said, ok cmon over I'm getting rubies. I choco'd over there, entered the zone, and in about 2 minutes he had one. He had done the same thing for 4 other people. Full moon really helps drops.

Was in the Sanctuary of Zhi the other night doing Samurai quest. A party member was disconnected so we started killing new creatures (to us they were new creatures) for fun. Saw a Goobbue Parasite sitting around, which is basically just a blue leech. We killed it and got ruby drop first kill. We didn't have a thf or anything in the party. This is a higher lvl mob, lvls 42-45, so I don't know if that had anything to do with anything, but it worked for me and now I have my ruby.

Try dunes in Vanadiel daytime, did you notice the hour that shows on the left screen? Refer to that clock. To be exact getting the heat wheater, go on Firesday (i don't know the day order in Vanadiel though). You mentioned that you try it for hours, but is it on correct day?
Other places I didn't try while I was doing my summoner flag quest.

Myself (43 DRK) and a 30 war heard that Quifm was the place to go for this drop. We stayed out for about 3-4 hours without a single drop. One of our friends happen to mention that Bubu was another area that could be used. Long story short, we both got our rubies in about 30-45 min. There are 2 beaches, connected by a tunnel, and if there's no one else out there you should be able to get them very quickly.
Forget Quifm, head to Bubu!
On a side note: I have 6 out of the 7 colors done. I'm missing "Scorching Heat", and thought the most logical place would be Valkrum. I've been out there for HOURS with no luck. Anyone know another place to go that doesn't entail an extensive journey?

I went to Bubu to kill leeches to get ruby along with RDM 30, and whm 44/thf 15, and me is 30 whm/ 11 blm. In about 1.5 hours, it dropped the first ruby, since RDM 30 need it, i passed the lot first, than she got the ruby. Than we kept continue killing, when 1.5 hours passed, we got the second dropping. I was wondering why I read on the top post says that he couldn't get the ruby with help of level 64 thf.
Before we did this, me and RDM 30 got help from level 54 thf killing gigas in Qufim, but no luck. I was wondering why even high level thf couldn't give the single drop, though level 45+ thf got Treasure Hunter II, while my friend that is level 44whm/15 thf only got Treasure Hunter I, but he could give a better dropping chance.

Treasure Hunter I/II can make some difference sure, but when it gets down to the nitty grittys, its really random. Could have been the THI thf who was really lucky and the TH2 thf who was really unlucky....

I decided to ask for help. Luckily enough, I found a level 62 SAM to help me. We, and by we, I mean he, started killing leeches. We did this for like 2-3 hours. We then gave up for the night. He told me to message him the next day, and we'd go in Qufim.
Next day arrives, I log on, and we start killing Acrophies in Qufim Island. We did this for 2 hours. Again! No luck. I gave up for 3-4 hours at this point.
When I got back on, the SAM was busy, so, I sked random PPL in Jeuno to help me. I was lucky enough to find a lvl 64 THF. Along with him, his LS friend joined, a lvl 52 DRK. We went to Bubu again, and went at it again. STILL, NOTHING!!!!
I am getting pissed off. Does this item even drop?

My ls was hard to get a hold of so i decided to fly solo. Had zero luck in the Wadi so I headed to Buburimu Peninsula. I fought about 10 or so with no luck so i went to the hidden beach on the west side of the map. first one i killed gave it up. I was a 29 blm/whm and had to heal after every kill, so it was kinda sucky. Those who seek the ruby i suggest Buburimu.

I killed about 200 of these things with me lvl 30 war and 2 whm 30 and a rdm 24 never got 1 I was starting to think the rubys did not exsist..lol back at it again tonight...
I was with a party last night in Qufim trying for rubies. They had been killing for three hours withno drop, so they invited me (Thief sub for TH) and we got three rubies in an hour.

Got one of these two days ago, I say this because I thought I mentioned the rarest thing that will probably ever happen to me in this game.
I was not only suprised when it took me and two friends (30-35 BRD, PLD, and WHM, respectively) only 15 minutes to get the first ruby dropped, but the leech we killed immediately after also dropped one. 2 Ruby's in a row folks, after 15 minutes--is there a record for rarest occurance in game?

I got the ruby in about an hour with a level 45 RDM/THF and Myself (lvl 30 BLM/WHM).
We did it at Buburimu Peninsula at the southern most beach.
Anyways, off to get the elements!

If anyone is a high lvl Theif on the Carbuncle sever please help me get this ruby, i am a lvl 31 war and this ruby is freaking hard to get and i just cant farm anymore. I need help.
After 2hrs I finally got one with my PLD friend in BuBu. Yeah!

Went to Bubu to help a friend get the Ruby. Honestly, getting to Bubu was the hardest part. We found the beach where they spawn, killed some leeches, third one dropped the Ruby.
For once, something in this game didn't take hours on end to accomplish! Well, my friend still has to go find all that weather, but other than that...
