The reason why no one posted here before you, because this is the scroll listing. The scroll of Light Threnody does the obvious, teaches the spell Light Threnody. If you want to discuss the usefulness of the spell, go to the spell listing.

To the other guy, bard has plenty of useless songs.
Fowl Aubade, Goblin Gavotte, Gold Capriccio, Shining Fantasia, Warding Round, and Scop's Operetta are all enfeeb resist spells, which take up one of 2 song slots which could be better used.
The Etudes (16 spells) are NARROW use. Usually they can be replaced, but are nice to have.
Minnes (4 spells) are rarely used, but occasionally are put on pld tanks. Almost always ballad, or VIT etude are better, or just standard meele songs.
Requiem (6 spells) are incredibly slow to kill, essentially their only major use is on the maat fight, and you only need one of them, requiem VI.
Paeon (5 spells) are just too slow to be practical.
In addition, the carols (8 spells) are mostly useless, although for some occasions they are worth using.The 2 Mambos is very limited in use, essentially to landing it on a nin tank (and only the nin tank), The 2 marches are equal to to the spell haste when stacked, and then you can't have other (better) spells. Maiden's Virelai is almost useless, it can hold a link for 30 seconds if you can't sleep it but thats really it.
Why indeed? I'm a bard myself. We do have great songs, but we have lots and lots that are just unused.

All of the threnody spells weaken the mob to that particular element. Why would they put something in the game if it is useless?

Wow, nobody has ever ever posted anything in regard to this. I find that amusing. Is this spell that useless? I don't even know what it does, I would assume it increases resistance to light damage dealt by a monster. Oh well, I'll be picking it up soon as my bard is almost level 10.
