I will say the same thing as I did for the Snipers mantle when ppl said it sucks.
Your retarded.

For EXP pt Range Att +5 alone is worth the 3 agi and 10 eva that Emp pin gives u. Ratt is VERY rare for RNG on gear before 60 and the stuff u can find is mostly related to When your country is in control/not in control.

Who do you think is gonna be better the RNG with +60 Range accuracy and +20 Range attack,
or the ranger with +3 Str +10 agi + 10 range acc +20 evasion +etc.......

When will ppl learn their jobs and specialize, sigh.

I have no idea the point your trying to make there, but ...

Balance is important. Start a battle with attack food and all the Ratt gear you can find. Then start replacing that att gear with racc until your comfortable with how your set up.

I parse my first fight to see how my acc is without food. An imporatant thing to remember is by eating attack food and loading up on racc gear, you'll be MUCH better off then to eat sushi and try and find enough Ratt gear to match damage. The damage can't compare. But, if your afraid of ever missing an arrow, lvl a new job, because you will miss a lot, like any other job does.

Also, setting up a macro to throw on tons of racc gear for sidewinder can come in handy in some circumstances.

this hat kicks the **** out of EMP hairpin for the simple reason that it increases your rapid shot rate, so allowing you to do more damage over all and gain TP faster.

the +INT is questionable to what the use is, but from my current experiments with status bolts and the duration of their effect i've found that +INT acts as an averager to the duration (instead of sleep bolts lasting (in seconds) 5, 3, 7, 9, 12 across a mob they'll last 6, 5, 7, 8, 10 for example. i've also found that +mnd increases the average duration of the status's. once i've got more results i'll post a full report.
Why the INT???

What does the INT do for ranger?

INT+ will increase the potency of the additional effects of the lv45 elemental arrows, in the same way that high MND increases light damage from holy bolts. Can't see any other benefits for a ranger!

Mystery Tour has it listed that you can get the Hunter's Beret +1 by trading the following to Port Jeuno NPC "Sagheera":

- Hunter's Beret
- Chameleon Yarn
- Charcoal Cotton
- Hunter's Cotton
- Ancient Beastcoin x25

Stats for Hunter's Beret +1:
HP+13 AGI+4 INT+4 Ranged Attack+5 Increases "Rapid Shot" activation rate

+3 Agi and +10 Evasion...
Ok, I gotta admit that I'd rather have +3 Agi than +3 Int.
But the evasion bonus is not very important as long as you got a good tank.
Plus, there's not alot of Ranged attack gear so I'll take this over an Emp pin any day.

If only my scavenge would work. 0/22...

Question
# May 10 2005 at 7:47 PM Rating: Decent
I got the Hat at level 50 soloed it. I'm now a 60 Ranger, and i still don't wear the hat, I like the +3 Agi and 10+ eva i think that is better for a Ranger. Anyways let me know what any of you think. The +10 Eva has saved my *** alot of the times. and the +3 is Ranged Acc and i heard that Agi makes Sidewinder and Slugshot do more damage

Trying to Scavenge with Ranger as Sub?

I have been looking at a lot of post here about how long it takes to get the earring.

I think the issue occurs only when you are subbbing ranger for this quest.

There is probably a "Scavenge" skill that get cut to half when Ranger is subbed.

Keep this in mind when doing the quest. If you don't want to spend too much time trying to get the earring, get someone to escort you to the place.

My two cents.

PS. It took me 10 times before I could get it as a SAM/RNG. Another player there had tried 40 times with no luck!
RE: Trying to Scavenge with Ranger as Sub?

I went as a rng/whm(for invis/sneak) and had to scavenge for the earring 18 times, all with no luck... I got tired and logged out to take a nap. Woke up, went to work, came home, logged on, and my very first scavenge got me the earring :)

I have a theory that the longer you stay in one area the less effective scavenge will be(kinda like how they nerfed fishing so bots would get less over time). And since I took so long getting up the tower, by the time I got there, I'm assuming that my scavenge % was in the dirt. My advice is if you're having trouble getting the item.. log out and try again the next day rather than pulling your hair out.. it just might work :)
what luck

Int effect on rng

"This may be a dumb question but i was wondering why a ranger needs the + INT? Maybe to sub blm? I am kinda new to ranger and was just wondering if i should reconsider my lower level gear to + INT if it helps with something important."

+int could be to help the elemental arrows and the debuff type ammo.

Int will not do too much for ammo effects seeing as the additional effects on ammo tends to have a 100% proc rate (not considering resistances).

What it will do however is boost your elemental weaponskill damage and increase resistance to all black magic.

Gunblade

You know I think that the Ranger should really be in a tunic outfit. Just to add to the mystery of the Ranger... Also who else believes that a Ranger/Warrior needs a GUNBLADE!!!!! Common it doesn't have to be high level I just want one Damnit!!!!
koooool

There is a theory floating around that INT has an effect on skillchains.

For example: say I follow a Freezebite with Piercing Arrow for a Fragmentation skillchain. Both weapon skills do a set amount of damage while the Fragmentation skillchain does another amount of damage. A higher INT rating would make it less likely that the Fragmentation would get resisted, thereby doing more damage.

Again, this is just a theory I've heard among my wanderings through the message boards. I've yet to confirm it.

Thanks for the info. I am coming along with ranger now and loving it. I can see how the INT may be used that way. Was in a party last night though killing robber crabs and doing the piercing arrow >> Viper bite for distortion SC and sometimes the distortion would hit for 350 and others for 30 so i can't really understand that...lol.

The reason for this is probably that the crab had shell on. It lowers SC Damage and Magic Damage.

Did this today. Had a friend to open the door at the Eldieme Necropolis and only used silent oils. Waited on the bomb to be facing other way and launched the cutscene and that was that.

Castle Oztroja. Did I die? Yes, because i was stupid enough to forget instant warp. Just stating a correction to a previous post; you don't need highlv help to dispose of the two yagudos guarding the brassdoor with 4 levers. Just enough sleep arrows :) I got hit twice taking care of them one at a time, and that was because i switched to scorps to Barrage. Sleep was effective and i found out the combination in few tries. After the door everything con'd VT or IT to me, but i made it safely to the pond, waited on a right moment when yags were far away, dropped invis, scavenged and got the earring on first try. Died on my way back on the brass door, an IT spotted me :/

Used around 12 Prism Powders and 8 Silent Oils Eldieme and Oztroja both included. Too bad the rest of the AF set aren't this "easy" ;-;

Confused
# Aug 03 2004 at 6:14 PM Rating: Decent
Well I am a lvl 50 Ranger atm and went to windurst to get the quest. She told me to go to Mhuara so I did, went there and got the cutscene and the one cat chick told me to go to the Necropolis so I ran my way through the Glacier and out to the lil Island on battalia downs and when I entered there nothing happened :( no cutscene so I was wondering if I missed something? I'm only lvl 50 does that have something to do with it? any info would be helpful thanks :)

I know this might seem silly, but try entering the necropolis from the south entrance in batalia. I zoned in there and got the cutscene. There is a nice guide in the forums (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=7&mid=1083021390346582631&num=61). I've only finished the first half of it, but it went off without a hitch. I'm moving on to the Castle Oztroja part tonight hopefully. Much harder. If you happen to be on bismarck, give me a /tell and we can go get killed in Oztroja together. I mean...get our pot leaf hat together.

Unfortunatly you are not exactly correct, before direspecting people on a message forum, research a few little known facts?
Fact 1. NIN AF WAS craftable at one point, indeed it was, it was a bug in which SE promply fixed (You may have read about making something unintended while crafting for something else?)
After the patch (some 5 months ago now I'm guessing)SE made it so ALL AF is all quested.

Great guide issfire, I soloed the whole thing with no other help than a stack of silent oil, and ninja invisible based on your walkthrough.

The only problem I had was waiting for almost an hour at both Titan's Gate and the Brass door spamming high levels to open them for me.

Thanks^^
