I did this quest exactly a week ago... afer reading all the forms here, i decided to skip looking for an allience and hire mercenaries!! (*'-')b

snaged in a lv. 73 nihon-jin NIN and she/he took out both NMs with no problems. Miser Murphy was a push over, even after seeing him nearly defeat a 73PLD and 75 DRG which kinda puzzles me to date, but then again i guess eva. is the key factor for that battle.

The doll wasnt hard either, 10 minute battle, of course i couldnt just goof off like i did with miser murphy lol so i had to haste and heal, nothing big though. Except that AoE was really annoying, kept knocking out stone skin and i eventually decided to forget about it lol.

total cost was 106k... +6k becuase the teleport. my advice is get some gil, shout out a price around 50k, then negociate if you can find a nin or rdm/nin. beats shouting / spamming jeuno for days or a week.

NIN is the way to go. The reason a PLD would/almost die is because of Blood Weapon and Ancient Magic. Utsusemi takes care of both of these problems.

My little story
# Jun 19 2005 at 6:57 AM Rating: Decent
Damn just got me hat tonight and boy I tell you it was a long trip. All I can say is….make friends, make friends, make friends. Here is my story.

Part 1 Miser Murphy:

This ghost is a pain in the a@#. I went there with a full alliance (levels 59-63). We went there for both Redmage AF and White mage AF. This damn thing was all over the place. And its drain spell = >.<. All and all we beat this think like 5-6 times. (Word of advice), make sure you know the Redmage’s your doing this with. There was a Redmage in the party who had not activated the quest, lotted on the coin, and won. Since his quest was not activated. Miser Murphy stopped popping so one Redmage got left out >.<

Part 2 Guardian Statue

Don’t believe the hype. This thing is a push over. Went there with a PT of 4. 75 Ninja, 55 Monk, 59 Redmage, and me 63 Redmage. I was in Jeuno shouting for a level 70+ DD (you can have this), 100k for about 30 mins. The Ninja BIT$&…. Slapped this thing around no prob. Could have done this with just him and me. (Word of advice), rent yourself a Ninja for this part of the quest and just keep him hasted and cured.

G-Luck

I did this quest today, let's see, I had about a level 65 RDM (Dehlila), 75 PLD (Macer), 70 WHM (Hikiri) and a 68 RDM (Quasi) [Thank you guys!!] anyways, we were traveling into Fei'yin and then we saw Miser Murphy. Of course, we tried to make him run around the place chasing the PLD, as we nuked him while he had gravity on...the shocking thing was I had to use Dispel on him about 5 times to take off his ice spikes...we got fed up and took him head on, big mistake, we died, waited a while for raises and went at him again, this time with a thief, we defeated him, ran to the other place, killed him and then the cut-scene...it's very sad how it all went down-- but who cares!? I got my hat! woo! Tough-tacos to all that do not have it yet~! (j/k) :P

..../sigh and put it on my nobles bed, where it will wait patiently for me.

How much faster casting?
# Mar 11 2005 at 11:42 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all. 59 rdm here from Shiva. Just got my hat. But the thing is, I another rdm 60 in my party also got it. We tried doing stoneskin and refresh at the same time after he put it on and it seems to be the same casting time. I thought it was going to reduce it by half or something. whats going on? It doesnt seems to enhance fast cast at all? any info on this?
Thanks

The fast cast effect is very subtle. When casting a spell the cast length is decreased as well as the time between casts. A lot of information can be found here: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?ffspell=421

Quoted from Lobrau on the attached link:

"Fast cast takes of exactly 1 second off the re-cast time of a spell regardless of it's cast time, so a cure saves 0.2 in the actual casting and 1 second in the re-cast time of 5 for a total saving of 1.2 and a total cast time of 8 (roughly 15%)
Blink also saves 1 second on the recast time of 10 seconds and 0.7 seconds in the cast time of 7 seconds for a total of 1.7 saved on a cast time of 17, roughly 10%"

Also stated are the "completion speeds" which can be quite interesting to both noobs and veterains just as an interesting factoid, and maybe put it to some good use. RDMs relative to each other will not boast a huge difference, but stack Fast Cast III with a Pimp Hat, and you will be envied by all other casters.

And there it is. Nice pic.

I like the way he twists at an angle at the torso and leans awkwardly forward. Someone needs to tell the elves that this is melee fighting, not yoga^^;

Red Mage Gear

By definition, a Warlock and a Duelist are both pimpness personified. And when you look at the stats on the respective gear sets, it breaks my heart when I sit down a realize that a Red Mage is nothing more than a Refresh/Dispel ***** by the time the level to equip these goodies comes about.

Also note that the Duelist's Chapeau is the single most uber piece of headgear any mage can enjoy, beyond that fact that it looks too sweet for words. This is apparent for a few reasons. First and foremost, it gives that constant Refresh at 1mp per tick. Also, it adds 14 MP and +15 to the Red Mage's already A+ Debuffing skill. It also adds +10 to wind defense, which adds to defense against Silence. However, all of this comes at a very steep price. This piece of digital art can only be worn by a level 75 Red Mage, and must be won in Dynamis-Xarcabard. No easy task by any stretch of the imagination.

Another heartbreaking fact in the saga of the Red Mage is the fact that we can equip the cursed Crimson/Blood Armor set. With all the incredible stat boosts these armor pieces have, it kills me that they can only be obtained by taking on the God HNMs in Tu'Lia and various other HMNs around Vana'diel and uncursing them. The most sought after piece of Crimson Armor is no doubt the Crimson Cuisess. The reasoning behind this is because they work like Strider Boots in that they add 12% to movement speed. Also, as with all the other parts of the Crimson/Blood set, they have high armor defense, add monumental increases to various elemental defenses, and add to the player's HP and MP without detriment. As opposed to some armors that convert XXHP into YYMP.

A Red Mage is NOT just a Dispel and Refresh *****. With the proper equipment can do some ok to good Melee damage as well as Elemental magic damage. I myself will not join parties that have more than a total of four magic users; my preference is two or three. A RDM is probably the best all around job in the game, and the most difficult to do correctly.
RE: Red Mage Gear
# Sep 05 2005 at 9:31 AM Rating: Good
I agree... Red Mages get parties for refresh and dispel, but, there's still MUCH more that we're capable of, even though not as well as other jobs. We don't do 55434353632 with a weapon skill, but we don't do 0 (if you use dispel at the right time...) and though our nukes don't exactly one-shot anything, they do more than 5 damage.

We're less than DD's, but more than mages.

... I want my pimp hat. ; ;
RE: Red Mage Gear
# Dec 28 2004 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
It really depends on the party you have. If you get the random, pld/dd/dd/rdm/whm/blm party, then yea it can be reduced to refresh/dispel. But even then I disagree. I feel I add more than that to a group. I can mb with the best of em, do 20-40 points of damage a hit which isn't great, but it adds up, debuff, backup heal, throw in a decent number of nukes which do some good damage, etc. I'm good for emergency 2hr + escape if need be or elemental seal + sleep 2... ect.

I'm sorry and I understand your view, but I really dislike seeing people say that's all a rdm is good for in parties. I suggest finding a static with a bard and/or nin tank. If you only have 2-3 people to refresh instead of 4-5 it helps a ton.
