look its simple people writing on this board in regards to rdm not melleing in parties are correct to an extent-we do feed the tp of the mob.however depending on your party setup rdm should stay in the back and concentrate on the refresh enfeeble haste enfeeble refesh cycle.at 59 with my rdm as my main and my baby love job when soloing i of course use 2xwise wizard anelice and have a good balance of everything i need of course i is subbing ninja when solo.over plus 10 mnd and int on gear 2x swords gives plus 28 attack and various other gear giving all round balance of vit strenght accuracy.anyway when i party what do i do i stay in the backline(especially since most whm i party with these days are soooooooooo slooowwww i need to save ***) but i stay back because i have too much to do and mainly to stay out of aoe distance if im melleing and i go down and the sht hits the fan what we gonna do then.convert is the ability that makes rdm truly stand out in a party and can save *** big time.soo my advice is simple obviously 1-11 is solo,11-20 mellee 20-35 melle only if u have accuracy gear mayb some strenght 35-55 stay back 55+ really depends on ure party ure gear ure sub and most of all you.anyway i know i was kind of vague writing this as im in work writing it but i hope it helps and to all rdm keep the good work up we damn hell aint redundant never will be and cap those skills.

The CHR does help spells stick not sure about enhancing but i know it helps enfeebling. Im 54rdm /nin /whtm /blkm when i need to be, rdm can do some decent dmg with en-spells but i do find i work better in the back refreshing and debuffing as well as hasteing among others. Yes rdm is solo master....i had two different rdm solo avatars for me so i could get summons and ive even heard of one soloing genbu, although u have to be very devoted to solo a god and stay awake for 17hrs. >.>(still investigating) As for soloing i can only guess its /blkm with the help of elemental staves and sleep2 soloing like a blackmage would using nuke>sleep>nuke>slee>nuke method. I soloed an even match hornfly as /blkm in crawlers nest with uncapped enfeebling using this method on my darkknight so i know its quite possible as rdm has higher enfeebling and elemental magic than drk does. But for /nin, i havent been /nin in awhile so im uncertain as to how well i could solo with it but yes i think rdm would be perfectly capable of soloing decent challenges pre-utsusemiNI.

As for getting the armor ive done seven artifact quests and have the full sets to redmage, darkknight, bluemage, paladin, beastmaster, thief and dragoon. Several people will have different opinions on the matter but i believe that there are six AF's per job as i classify them {(6/6)*job* AF done}

AF1=weapon quest-->at lvl 40 equippable anywhere from lvl40-43(possibly to 44) depending on the job(war@40 mnk@42 bst@40 drk@43)
AF2=armor quest1-->Startable once lvl 50 is obtained and involves a NM fight, all the time(i believe, cant recall if it didnt at any job so far)
AF3=last armor quest--> ALWAYS the level 60 piece involving a notorious moster fight
AF4=hand AF-->questable once you get to 50 and either activate the AF2 quest or just once u get to 50 (not totally sure here). I always open my AF2 quest first out of habit.
AF5-6=non-questable-->opening treasure coffers in certain dungeons as a specific job will yeild the AF's not questable(see allah for more info)

I believe i covered most or all misunderstandings and questions in the above posts....if i missed one or you just have a question about any job (besides cor or pup(:D)) feel free to email me @ sanderson@POL.com and ill mail you back as soon as i can.

AF3 is not ALWAYS the level 60 piece.

For BRD and WHM, the level 60 piece is hands coffer.

AF3, by definition, is a quest, therefore not the hands coffer.

WHM AF3 is the quest involving fighting Altedour I Tavnazia in Fei'yin for the body piece (level 58)

BRD AF3 is the quest involving fighting Bugaboo in Monastic Cavern, also for the body piece (and also level 58)

Im sure skadan dosent mean "Firemyst Scholar resists help from his Rdm!" Skadan means "Sneak is cast on whoever" and the spell will LAST LONGER!!! Think it through, you have been running through a swarm of Goblins when the first dreaded message "Invisible is wearing off" and then bam it wears off and you have 10 or so T or harder mobs on your tail! PS Chr helps Brd's with their singing magic, why cant it help the rdm too! and i heard from a high lvl rdm that it affects how well Enfeebles are stuck on a mob, so all in all if either, if not both, are true its a great bonus!

Do you usually have problems with casting enhancing magic and having it fail? That would kinda suck to resist your own protect cast.

The CHR+ really isn't FOR anything, it's just a bi-product of this elequently designed peice of fashion. People just tend to like you more in it. Can't help that now can we?

oh and it will help RDM/BRD like myself because all the CHR helps. Even as an Elvaan getting debuff songs to stick on a monster twice the bards lvl is very difficult.

Subbing a Bard? ...Why would we do that???
Aside from the AOE Refresh effect (we only can stick one song), but its only +1 to our original Refresh (+3) per tick. I dont think sacrificing our MP or effective boosts to MND or INT (from a WHM or BLM sub) justifies this.

Effective Subs:
BLM/WHM (For Parties, but i've used BLM for soloing EP monsters.)
THF (For Farming. And you dont lose that much Int, so he works good.)
WAR (If just for HP and ATK bonuses...I havent tried soloing with a Melee yet.)
NIN (I hear rumors about this being a soloists dream, and FastCast/Utusumei seems great. Two swords to deal damage, i can see this working)
SMN (...Dunno where i'd use all that MP.)

Melee RDM's
# Jan 24 2006 at 1:00 PM Rating: Excellent
RDM is probably the 2nd best soloist job in game, hands down. Pick your prey correctly, and there's no reason a RDM can't solo levels in the 60's. Even at 58, and new to the job, I do solo dc's every now and again, with great success. If I ever ungimpped blm so it's usable again, I could solo even-T's without much problem, if I play it smart. RDM is a jack of all trades profession, however, melee in an xp pt is not advisable, just feeds the mob tp :(

Take care everyone

Gathered up a skill up party of about 7 people all ~60+ a THF 65 and DRK 70+ tanked the whole time. We camped behind the door on the top level and spent about 4 hours for 2 keys with 3 THFs in the party. With each key that dropped the coffer in the room behind the door spawned, both RDMs got AF from coffer as soon as key dropped, was a great night and had some fun doing it. Oh and we also got a BLM Testimony for the BLM.

Hope this shines some hope for those dreading this.

RDM was made as a "MAGE THAT CAN ALSO MELEE" saying that their job is "just for the fun of it" obviously you have never played rdm or played past 40. Keep your dumb opinions to yourself and don't flame ppl for playing their job to the FULLEST EXTENT.

Im a level 41 RDM, but my gear isnt excellent. Sometimes using a club with +4 to MND and INT serves the RDM better. I Suppose if your gear is set up correctly, with a Red Cape and a balance with INT/MND/MP, then using a sword should be allright (Fencing Degen is a great sword for this level due to having a bit of all 3.) Im still doing 10-22 DMG with 5-7 from Enbliz. Think of it this way: It sure as hell beats using a poison spell to do DOT. A RDM's sword IS our DOT. We're more than just pretty refresh/enfeeb/enhancers.

Sides, I dont like being called a Mage. Always liked the term "Spell Swords", A Magic Swordsman. ^_^

Maybe you need to calm down and get a hug from mommy, how you goin come up on this Web site talking your B/S im lvl 73 RDM and i'v melee'd plenty in PT's it all depends on the PT set up, so its not all for fun , but part of the job, maybe you need to chk your self and try another job, cuz you dont seem to know to how work RDM..and calling ppl a NOOB is lame...find a new word.

I have to say I agree. RDM is a jack of all trades and is meant to both melee and heal. If RDM wasn't meant to melee, then why the hell did they give only RDM the -en spells? ONRY RDM!!! /disgusted. If RDM wasn't meant to melee, hell I let the damn WHM's melee in my damn parties. How the hell are you supposed to beat Maat without weaponskills?
RE: another noob following

lvl 58 RDM 900 to lvl 59 i still melee...
I can do about 30-40 damage +10-14 on enspells so 40-55 damage each hit with 225 delay...
just cause some ppl do literally no damage other ppl might not

I'm a Red that still melees (please don't beat me /cower) and 1-2 dmg + slight en spells is insulting to be frank. I get at least 5-10 per hit (usually more) and the right en spell will add another 5-7. So lets say i land 10 - 17 per strike, landing a hit every 3 seconds over a 4 minute fight.
I always try to prioritise my magic over my melee so half the figure to allow for that and i still melee 400-630 as well as landing mbs, dispeling, refreshing etc.

Just thought should give another side to the story. Do what you want as long as it hurts the enemy and not the party. And Whms, i dont mean spam Banish :p

There s a fun li'l trick to this li'l hunt... I went and got my key first with a few friends... took 2 trips... first one was abotu 4 hours, second abotu the same, but we got 2 drops for 2 ppl (RDM -me, and a DRK). I had to come back for coffer and died twice... >.<

My second trip back to try and solot the coffer I met another key-hunt party and offered to tag along as refresh/dispel monkey... worked like a charm.. we picked up a coffer for me on the way and I spent abotu 3 hours getting a skill-up on a lot of my magic skills. once agai, only us RDM get to cheat the system... ;)

Which is better...this or Brigandine Armor +1? I mean sure, it has like 11 more Def...but Brigandine armor +1 has all those stat bonuses.

please give reasons why you think one is better than the other.

Thanks

Because this armor allows a lvl 58 RDM to enfeeble like a lvl 63 one (3 lvls of skill per one job lvl)

The stats on the Brig+1 are nice but only really useful for soloing and even then this is better for the superior defense and minus to spell interruption.
Very few RDMs still melee at this lvl (I stopped around 40) unless trying to skill sword, so the melee stats on the Brig are pretty wasted. Also, the Brig has no MP bonus.

But I think the most important reason is the Brig is fugly and this is pimp, and in the end that's all that really matters ^_~

Actually you would enfeeble like a level 61 Rdm. Once you hit 50 your magic caps every 5 levels instead of 3, with an occasional 4 increase instead of 5 in A+ skills.

I do feel that this is better as all around armor but to stop melee at any lvl as a RDM is not the best idea. I still melee at 59 and set all the spells I need to cast as macros, changing them to fit each party I'm in. The RDM is the only mage that really has the ability to melee as well as cast, so don't give that oppertunity up, as it will pay off in the long run.

Curious, if Red Mage was not meant for Melee, then why is it that RDM is the most popular NM soloing job available? Though I have not fully leveled mine to 75, everyone in my LS, and FL that have been playing much longer than I say things like "RDM can solo Avatar Prime battles" and other things that sound phenominal? I don't see a RDM nuking Leviathan Prime to submission... which would mean, he had to hit it :p

First off i don't melee because I don't have the time. However, others can melee all they want to if they can do their duties. Now what you said really is ironic, where playing a game to have fun, but you say not to melee cause it is only for FUN. See, don't really make sense does it? That is basically why I don't bug anybody about their playing styles, if I get irritated I leave, simple as that. What makles people telling red mages not to melee even worse was that they were intended to...maybe not on IT++ mob, but on VTs as SE has always seemed to try and steer peoploe towards when picking fights.

Did you invite the thf for the TH? Do you really think it helps? Has that been proven?

I've never gone on a key hunt with a thf. It's usually Rdm, Whm and Sam. Whm and Rdm are my RL friends.

We've been doing a lot of key farming lately cos we're levelling our next set of jobs. War, Blm and myself as Rdm.
Rdm key hunts:

-CN Chestkey dropped fighting Exorays in 30 mins
-Eldieme Necropolis coffer key, first drops in 1 hour and 2nd 10 minutes later
-Garlaige Citadel coffer key drops in 2 fights and chest key drops in 1 fight
-Castle Oztroja coffer key, first drop in 2 hours and second 10 minutes later.

It's all luck I think but I guess it doesn't hurt to have a thf there. Just usually, I see people go out of their way to invite a thf.

Two trips today. One with 75 sam friend and other with 75 mnk friend. Kiled fast. Had 1 thf on 2nd trip. ~7 hours total today. Got about 2500 xp at 10-15 xp a mob. Not one key. Give me a break but the level of commitment to get this key just became stupid >.> This is a game SE and 7 hours in my opinion is not fun.

Edit: K got key and coffer ~4 hours into 3rd trip. Invited a thf that was farming there about 1/3 through. Grand total ~11 hours. This one was painful but Im glad to have the af peice it is very nice. As much as I like it though this was stupid long to have to work to get but oh well such is life.

I just want to make a note for all you key hunters, I was in Castle Ortija or whatever for about 6 hours hunting keys, Then our moron thf (70thf/35nin) pops a mimic with thief key on a coffer So of course he dies and we kill it and on first mimic got a key and luckily i out lotted a few people. And for the other keys that they got on yags took about 15hours total and millions and millions of yags so im guessing that mimics have a way higher drop rate hopethis helps ^^

Maybe 75 job with /nin. Even then you would have to be pretty good to get away with it. When I looked up the mobs to do this, the mobs were all 72-74. Fortunately it's pretty easy to get pts to go because bard and mnk can get testimonies here, and it's a good skillup place. Plus, you get alot of shurikens from the yag assassins, so THFs like it too. All in all, it's a great place for a pt to farm while looking for coffer.
