The key has a terrible drop rate. Must have taken us about 3hrs. Dark Spark was easily mauled by Myllenia as NIN75, was fun watching that. ^^
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 02 2006 at 2:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i like da Mitts lawl u need as much Emnity as u can becuz like if ur Cure III is a useful move... for instance if ur a Hume or mith or w/e u dont have as much MP as a taru. so since u can do Cure III which brings hate the Emnity Helps u not grab hate which helps i recommend useing these gloves cause it helps reduce hate idk wat yall rambling about ur Cure Bonus lol but i gotta say these gloves really help me with my Cure III and reduces hate so i can keep doing it im curently Emnity-16 which is pretty good for a Mage with 900+ MP at 60 lol ^^ i also use food but lets not get to dat ^^

First off this quest is hard. low key drop rates, an annoying coffer, its hard to g et a party for, and then instead of just getting the af you have to go fight the dark spark instead. So that being said I was wondering if I would bve considered gimped if i just skipped this quest and used ivory mitts for example istead I would be considered gimped?

I might not consider a WHM sans mitts to be gimped, per se, but as far as WHM AF goes, they are, in my opinion, the best piece. The extra healing magic always helps, and -4 to enmity is better even than the negative enmity on the BLM AF.
Plus, it's not like it's all that difficult. Frankly, the briault seems harder to me. And if you're up for a real challenge, go for the DRK burgeonet. >.<' All things considered, there are other AF pieces that are more of a headache.
picking locks to get AF
# Jul 27 2005 at 7:15 PM Rating: Decent
If you've unlocked the AF quest for hands, feet, etc., can you change jobs (e.g. to Thief)and pick the chest or coffer locks and obtain the items for your whm job?

If the AF is a quest and opening the chest/coffer produces a key item (which in the case of AF hands is correct, you get the old gauntlets key item so you can proceed to the Dark Spark half of the quest), then yes you can change to THF and pick the coffer. In the case of AF that comes directly from the coffer and is not quest related, you MUST be on the correct job with all the prerequisites met to get the AF.

# Jan 03 2006 at 11:38 PM Rating: Decent
umm when it comes to af you have to be that job to open the item or key item from the coffer

Sorry, but no; the previous poster was correct. Unless you get the piece of AF directly from the coffer (e.g. the Healer's Cap from Garlaige), you can open it with any job. For coffers where you get the AF directly, you must be the correct job.

The only conflict would be if you still had an open AF quest from that job in the same area. For example, the key item for BST AF hands comes from a Crawler's Nest coffer. I can open that coffer as BRD, but if I have started the BRD AF quests and not yet gotten it, I will get the BRD AF hat instead. I don't know what would happen in that situation if I opened it with a 3rd job (e.g. picked it as THF).

this mini quest makes it so you can re-obtain af that you discarded. to activate it, you must have completed the entire AF quest series: AF1, AF2, AF3, gloves and coffers, AND having one of the pieces tossed away.

Healing Magic?
# Mar 23 2005 at 7:41 AM Rating: Decent
Ok...enmity -4 is pretty good, but is this Healing Magic Skill thing really going to do anything? If it's not going to actually increase my healing potency, then I don't see the point. For instance, my Cure 1 capped at 30 before lvl 25, and it's still at 30 (well, 35 technically with my Light Staff). Is it going to go up, or is it still going to be 30(31,35, whatever)? Because, if it's not going up, I am thinking that something that boosts MND might be better.... >_>
And please don't tell me that I should just get it because it's my AF....

Ok, I answered my own question. lol
Lvl 64 Cure V with my equip and setup:
Devotee's Mitts = 598 HP
Healer's Mitts = 595 HP

This is consistent with a Light Staff, but not tried on lightsday. Since MND supposedly also affects buffs and such also, that would make Devotee's mitts squarely better for normal xping, if you want that little extra kick. Kinda sad that the best MND gloves in the game are lvl 27. :/
The enmity thing still works out really well, though. I don't normally use my AF body and hands, but I throw those bad boys right on when I get a substandard NIN tank or something crazy happens where I only use Cure 4 because Cure 5 isn't up again yet. lol I assume this -enmity thing will be even more key in HNM/God/etc fights.

If you're using Cure V instead of Cure IV... um, maybe that's why you're getting emnity/hate. By this level I'm sure you must know that and I'm just reading what you're saying wrong. Maybe.

You DO know that Cure V is almost hate-free, and uncapped, right? Whereas Cure IV has "normal" hate and a soft cap?
RE: Healing Magic?
# Apr 09 2005 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
Add on the fact that my Cure 1 is capped at 32 without my light staff [Healing 185] and thats without the healing mits... there is cap and break cap. Cure II capped at 90, but a high healing skill pushes it past that.

After cure II its gets a little harder to messure the 'cap', me and my friends say that Cure III has a 'soft cap' of 180 but that with high healing skill, you can push Cure III's well past that soft cap. I already have broken 360 with Cure IV so i dont doubt its got potenchal to go far [i think my best Cure IV with light staff was 408...]

I already have my Cure V and as you all should know thats for us only, added to that, it apperently draws LESS hate then Cure IV [ apperently about the same hate as Cure III ] If all goes well, i will have my Sixty one in a few days, and after that I plan to get these gloves and my af body [lost the fight last night, my god does he eat ninjas alive, now i need a new bell] Once i do have them I plan to cap my healing skill for 61 and see just how far i can push the caps n.n

Cure V is an uncapped cure with a cap to how much hate it generates... Those mitts would be good for that alone..

but the -4 enmity IS that good... However, you're partly correct... Having +mnd gears to swap with this might be a better way to go, but you'll still want to keep them on most of the time

I Got this quest first instead of the Healers MItt Quest..im lvl 52..why would they give me this quest for lvl 60 item and not the lvl 54 one???

That quest merely starts the quests for it and the other two in the series. If you noticed, he said to search dungeons for types of lost armors, which is how the WHM AF cap and pantaloons are obtained (in Garlaige Citadel and Crawler's Nest, respectively).
Why
# Jun 13 2004 at 8:57 AM Rating: Default
Why do they have the quest set at level 40 to get then have the mitts at level 60?

from what i've seen, the quest for the af hands is the same for all jobs, with only one variation. and the hands for each job are different lvls, so the hands are the second af item, all jobs can get, it just happens to be the last af item we can wear, it may be the second item another job can wear though.
RE: Why
# Jul 13 2004 at 1:41 AM Rating: Decent
I've read other places that you have to have started this quest to get the pantaloons... whether it's true or not, I'm not sure... but it would make sense to have it at 40 if that were the case.
