Im not new or anything i just havent been on in over a year and would just like to know how exactly this peice of equipment when swapped in for ws's wouldnt do more damage then haubergeon. I mean farming on easy prey or decent or w/e. im a level 60 ninja/war and people on my ls are dead set that haubergeon is better for swapping in to ws. Aside from a 10 accuracy difference from haubergeon and byrnie which i wouldnt think would make that much of a difference on easy prey and decent challenge with sniper rings and a lifebelt why is it worse. Id swap right back to Scorpian harness after ws. Its at 170k right now on my server heub is 230k. Aside from "its just better" and "i love hauby" why is hauby a better choice?

TBH I don't see how a Haub is better. I EXP'd in a Byrnie as SAM Vs. SAMs in a Haub. I hit harder each time and my WS's were dealing more DMG too. On only 2 occasions were the SAM's equipped different;y and that was just GKT choice. Otherwise we were the same in gear. IMHO. I'd take a Byrnie unless ACC was an issue

WS mods

Jin is modded by str and dex at 30% each, byrnie has +3 str BUT that is off set by the -3 dex so its a complete wash, and no the +20 attack wont make up for that when compared to the hauby which has 5 str and dex AND +10 acc & attk.

Haubergeon for ws, byrnie for tp if you have enough acc to make up for it.

I use this piece on my main 68 sam & pld. Its kick ***. and for all those ppl crying about the dex-3.....like someone posted before dex is 1/2 acc....-3 is almost irrelavent. And for those still stuck on the whole "-3, sam needs all dex it can get or it doesnt give +10 acc", use a lightning bow + 1. it gives +3 dex to cancel it out or one of the grips which all jobs can equip, and you should be eating food to make up for stats in any xp or hnm or w.e. Combine this piece with acc+ food and your golden. And on top of that ppl forget that sam has "Hasso" now. Thats increased attk speed, +attk, and +acc. I dont kno hasso exact numbers but i have used it with this piece a few times with no food on IT+ mobs and i still landed 3/4 of my hits. Not to mention Zanshin. thats like a sams second wind when it comes to attacking. when solo or farming with nin subbed using seigan + thirdeye + ichi, its straight ownage. -3 doesnt even play a factor. Hauby is good piece, but to say that its better for sam only for the fact that it gives +10 acc isnt a good enough support to me.

hidden killer effect

I think this thing gives a hidden effect of one of the killer traits. I was hunting megalobugard one day as my 59NIN to see if I could kill him. Well I couldnt but I was close so I went and got lvl 60 (I use a byrnie). The next day I noticed I was intimadating a lot of the bugards, at first i thougt it was a fluke but it happened probably 5-10 times and it worked on megalo too. This was the only thing i changed in my gear and ninja doesnt get a killer trait so I'm pretty sure this is what caused it. Killed megalo and got drop btw ^^

*edit* figured out it was the food that gave me the effect >.< forgot all about it till a couple days ago

This item is best suited for a Paladin in Ballista, hands down. As far as the people expressing their utter glee for the +10 Attack over the Haubergeon, it's very short lived. In fact, it's extremely short lived.

Haubergeon +1 > Byrnie +1 > Haubergeon > Byrnie

One thing that must be considered, is even at higher levels, the +10 Attack is nothing compared to the exorbitant amount of just simply better stats the Haubergeon gives. As was stated earlier, you lose 8 Dexterity, 10 Accuracy, and 2 Strength from using Byrnie over Haubergeon.

Of course, I can rightly justify using the HQ Byrnie over the NQ Haubergeon. The difference of between those too is too great. Other than that, and this is a reference for all jobs, but Paladin, the Haubergeon is very much the more clear choice for Warrior, Dark Knight (especially), Samurai, and Ninja.

This is odd too me. Maybe i havent been paying much attention but it seems weird that this recipe requires a behemoth lether when that synth caps higher then the byrnie. I have never seen a higher material cap than the primary craft level for the item. Being leather in this case.

Mmk, At Lv.75 most EXP PTs chain VTs quickly. Really no need for extra Acc whn your almost hitting 99.9% of the time with sushi.
I do agree for IT++, HNM, Gods, etc that +10 Acc would be better than 20 attack.
When it comes down to it, it REALLY depends on what your fighting.
I just bought one for my DRK and BST, because I didnt want -20 Eva and -6 AGI, because I never party anymore, and -20 eva and agi is horrible in farming, helping poeple out etc.
Goes for 8-10 Mil on Bismarck, Hauby goes from 6-8Mil. Prices have been jumpping and falling by a couble of mils latly tho.

Good for T-VT Chaining, ok~ for IT~, Better from LV.74-75, I wouldnt use one from Lv.60-74 tho.

If you are any melee class, you want to get as much accuracy you can get your hands on. 10 accuracy is much better then 20 attack. Attack means nothing if you are missing half or more of those hits. The haubergeon blows this armor out of the water.

To address this statement clearly, you are sort of right but im guessing you have never used Byrnie or even Hauby. The NQ is amazing for most any job listed for soloing and the HQ is even better depending on your budget. On most servers Hauby is cheaper then Byrnie mostly cause of the high demand of higher level DD's who prefer Atck+ when at higher lvls you lvl more off of VT++ to IT instead of IT++. Thus because of the weaker mobs you can hit alot easier with less accuracy, so the Atck+ comes REALLY in handy. Hauby is a great piece of armor, dont take me wrong, but alot of ACC doesnt come in handy if you cant dish out the damage needed with all that ACC.

Byrnie is by far one of the best pieces of equips I have picked up. I also keep a Hauby with me at all times just in case I need the +10 Accuracy but that so far has never happened. Byrnie doesnt look as great as Hauby does on WAR but it is by far a much better piece. If you have the gil the HQ is worth it by far.

How Byrnie+1 got to 20M+ I'll never understand though.

Most NINs who have Byrnie also have a Scorp. Harness. They use Byrnie to macro into WSs and for farming. Scorpion Harness is made for every job and its great for blink tanking cause of the +EVA. Byrnie+1 is 40 mil on my server and its rising because people understand what a great piece of armor it really is.

I would say Hauberk. We warriors at this Lv. are mainly DD's at this point. I keep my AF gear on me just incase. Also I keep A set of DD gear and Def gear as A precaution.Byrine is nice, no dought but if I were to choose on a long trem DD gear, Hauberk for Warrior is best think.

lvl 60 is far, far too late to still be using viking axes, they shouldn't be used any later than 55 in my opinion, if you have that much of a problem with accuracy, look over your equipment and choose your food wisely

60 is definately too late to be mainhanding a Viking. Offhand, you can still toss one into the sub slot if your hit rate doesn't meet your standards, but the low damage on the Viking Axe is going to really show, even with good attack food.

yea, its 8mil last sold at ah... in feburary!
now that the price has gone up on behemoth hides to 4.3 mil, the synth of a byrnie is now 4.45 mil.. and they only sell for 3.5 mil at the ah, so if i possibly synthed 1/10 +1 with 97.5+3 leather and 60 smithing, then the minimum price for the +1 granted losses in selling regulars would have to be 11,500,000g just to barely make a profit. now, granted the difficulty of +1ing these, the demand for the +1 versoin, and the extreme rarity that these go up at the ah, yea, 20mil for one would be easy to get.

If you synth this with 80+ Leather and 55+ Smith you'll be in tier 2 (11+ over the cap in each craft), which is as high as you can get for this item, since it's impossible to have 100 Leather and 75 Smith (tier 3 = 31+ over the cap in each craft) at the same time. In tier 2, your HQ rate should vary from about 1% up to somewhere between 5-10% depending on day of the week and moon phase. I haven't seen any kind of statistical evidence on what the highest HQ rate you can get from tier 2 is, but from my observations it's 10% at the most.

actually, you can take 4 crafts to lvl 70 if you wanted to. its not that you can only get 1 craft above lvl 60, its just that you only have 40 synthesis levels after 60 to split between crafts..
so, for instance, you have leathercraft at 100, and cloth at 60. if you skill up to lvl 61 clothcraft, your leathercraft level will drop to 99. armors are not included in the total 40 above the level. so if you took 4 craft skills to 70, you could get +2 on each of them from the armor, then raise 1 to 100, the rest will drop to 60+2 with the 2 armors :)

also, as for the difficulty of +1'ing a byrnie.. its not that difficult apparently (according to a few other high synthers) its just cost prohibitive being a 3,100,000g synth on siren server. and yes, i have a signed byrnie.. i havent made an attempt at another though.

Okay I don't know about other jobs but I would have thought Haub is much better for sam than this as sam's main job is gaining TP and hitting the mob lets you get TP...

Haubergeon: Str+5 Dex+5 Acc+10 Att+10
Byrnie: Str+3 Dex-3 Att+20

So this is 10 att more attack for a loss of 8 dex, 2 str and 10 acc. I'd much prefer the large dex and acc gain than 10 att that can easily be made up from Ochiudo's kote or Spike earrings...

ppl think that the haubergeon is way better then the byrnie. Why? Because they look at the -dex and -agi, then look at the +accuracy and think that this is the best of the two.

In a way it's true. The haubergeon would be a great body piece for sam because they need accuracy to DD (more hits, more WS, etc.). But then you can just equip sniper rings+1, dex rings and more acc+ up items. On the other hand, your just filling up your inventory slots because of this body piece. Yet, you do the same with the haubergeon.

I seriously see this body piece working best with war/nin, because most wars (me for example^^) use a Viking Axe as our sub, and before you start flaming me about gimping my job because of the low DMG, I've tested the dmg ratio on the sub weapon, and the dmg dif is hardly "gimped", in fact I hit more often with the viking axe. Anyways, my suggestion is, if you want to hit harder, get the byrnie sam. And I highly suggest you get Byrnie to all you war/nins^^

Oooo, srry for the edit but I forgot something. This is also good for ninjas, because of the +VIT and +atck, they can sacrifice a lil agi and dex for, just helps them keep hate. Of course, with nin, you can't keep hate with just brute STR and provoke, you need your ninjistu, but that's another story ^_~

Most of the time i get hate from the thf SATA'ing onto me~ once im 60 im gonna get one of these and hopefully hold hate even more. I do more dmg than the sam in some parties and occasionally more than warrior. (Eris' Earrings also help much :P)

imo haubergeon is better (except for nin prolly, cuz of the -eva)

if u r a war using gaxe, u wont have a viking axe to give u more acc. i dunno how expensive snips +1 r on ur server, but on quetzalcoatl you cant 'just' get them, atm they r like 3.5mil, which is over twice the price of a haubergeon.

in the end i think that attack doesnt do much, if u cant hit the mob, which is why i personally prefer a haubergeon or at 69 Hauberk

Chances are, that if you are a war using a G-axe, then ninja won't be your sub. /MNK is much better for g-axe, and stack aggressor with focus and you more than make up for the haubergeon, add boost and the +20 attack from Byrnie to Raging Rush and watch the blood fly.

I sub both /mnk and /nin depending on what the skillchain is. In that case i would take the Byrnie because the haubby is too damned ugly to look at.

If you're a WAR/NIN you shouldn't be using a Gaxe.

If you're a WAR/NIN tank, this is much better than the Haubergon for the same reason that it's also better for NIN/WAR, it doesn't have that -10 evasion.

lol, please read the subject name "All about how you play your job" Never said byrnie in every condition is better then haub for war/nin, I'm just stating that it's good for tanking. In fact, if you wanna be versatile (and if your rich) you should have two sets of eq: DD and tanking

EDIT: Forgot, Scorpion harness is good too (duh

Leather 69
Smithing 55

Required to safely craft this item. Smithing 70 and Leather 90 would be a good idea to go for a +1 on this.
