I remember the first time I got these things, everyone suggested finding a big group of like-leveled people or a high level... well that just gives you a big group of people that need the drop or a crap drop rate.
I(49WHM) and a bud (49 MNK) started in CN, we were actually both 48 at this point. We just targeted exos that con T+, drop rate was 2/7 or 8.
Then we went to eleiem, went to past to get cliff jump ability by trading flowers to shiny point leading up to where you used to have to go through xarcabard. We found a long tunnel with Lich pulls at both ends and again, passes on VT and just grabbed the T+ or T-, we were again about 2/7 or 8.
The only part about the bomb core that is no duo-able is the gate, after that they are a snap. we were about 2/3 on these.
LB1 all wrapped up like nothin, seems silly that got 2 jobs to 50 before I got past this quest the first time round^^

When I was a level 48 BST leveling in Gustav Tunnel my duo partner, Bene was 49, and was eager to start getting LB1 items, so, I suggested we duoed Exorays. Since our Goblin's Leeches camp had just been invaded by some dumb level 70+ people skilling up, we immediately headed for the Nest.
I guess no other job duo at that level could have killed so many Exorays in so little time. Must have been around 100+ Exorays, because we literally killed one every 2.5 minutes. I guess each one could have gotten the Mold solo at level 50, but much more slowly. The strategy was simple, charm anything available that was T, or lower and immediately throw it on the nearest Exoray, the pets and the Exoray die so quickly you barely have to worry about pets decharming, or Exoray surviving.
Now that I am level 50, I'm getting some buffer experience and at the same time farming for my Coal in Garlaige Citadel, solo. Once I have acquired it, I will attempt to solo the Papyrus, I wonder if there exists a camp where Lichs spawn that has some charmable mobs nearby. Would it be feasible to attempt getting Papyrus in the Desert, instead of The Eldieme Necropolis?

Someone was shouting for help in Jueno for this and since I needed I thought I would join him. We also had another party member that kept on disconnecting on us. Well, 2nd exoray that we fight we get it and while we were fighting, the guy who was dcing disconnected at the wrong time and our other party member died. Disconnected member comes back and we decided to let item go automatically. During that time another party shouted out that they had one and I thought it would be a good idea for me to get it and anothet party member would get the one that just dropped. I disband and got the extra one, but I was leader. Leader fell to dead member and couldn't invite or change. DC member decided to disband and invite me back instead of casting lot to get item.
We ended up losing item and we didn't get another after that for the next hour. It got late and I had to go to bed.
Just be patient!!! It will come... Although this crap reminds me of infamous subjob quest.

Leveling bard in CN, fearing lvl 50 (was 45)..
We were fighting a mix between beetles, exos, and flies, but tried to avoid flies because of their pesky AoE.
One of the exos drops a mold (as would to be expected ~_~), and the war/nin lets me have it (even though he needs one too). ^^
We tell him next one we get goes to him, pull another exo for chain, and, lo and behold, another one drops! Bam!
1/3 on G1 items, lvl 45..
I hope the others arent too hard >.<
EDIT: I hate the paper. Bomb coal was easy though

This was the BIGGEST pain in my butt!! 3 nights in a row a few LS friends of mine spent helping me get this! me 50 Rdm/Blm - 60 blm/whm - 51 Pld/thf spent a good 4 hours a night trying to get this evil piece of crap.. We got plenty of Nest Keys, and a variety of 'shrooms... but not mold. Finally, last night, my LS friends were busy, so i spent some time shouting in jeuno... Now, i want yall to know, no kind hearted person would help me until i said that i would give them a reward... So, after about 2 hours shouting, this 65 Sam/War took me to Gar. to get the bomb, 2 hits, got that... we went back to jeuno and was like "Oh, i can get my friend to help get mold!" Now, i wasnt about to turn that down!! 66 thf! so, we went to CN, spent like 3 hours there.. finally, the last one we killed for the night, dropped it!!! Thank god too, cause we were all going to bed after that one, mold or not! I must have killed an easy 200 exorays in my hunt for the mold >< My advise to anyone who hasn't done Genkai 1, just be patient... some ppl are lucky, and some arent... so tonight, i am off to get the papy ><

God, I don't know how I'm going to get this =/. Guess I'll have some friends help me out.

Me and 3 ls friends fought them last night and only managed 1 mold in 3 hours. We had a lvl 50 Thf helping. There was a bonus though we had 2 chest keys drop and was luck enough to have a chest spawn near us and received 3,500 gil. Thnx guys for the help. Now I am off to get the paper :(
My mom was with a couple of her LS mates that needed the mold today.
I'm only a THF43 right now, they're all ready to go with their Limit 1. I went anyways, seeing as I am having a hard time getting a party.
Guess my TH1 isn't broken or anything. They killed close to 30 before I got there. When I arrive we went through 3 and got 2/3 on the drop.
I think we just got lucky though. ^^

tried 8 hours with TH2 in pt.. no mold.. probly killed 50 exorays.. next pt, 2 hours one mold, not me.. still trying to get this (i have paper and bomb thing already) IMO the papyrus isnt as bad as ppl say, much easier than mold imo.
I was with my linkshell getting exorary molds on asura last night. We were there for 6 hours and got about 8 molds.
It was an alliance of two parties that included at least one 70 drg, 50bst, black mages, white mages, monk and a bard. We were killing about 3 at a time almost constantly.

I worked in 4 different parties 4 different times to get that damn mold. I got it finally on my last kill for the night 3 of us in party still needed it but for once my Lot that was cast was really good. (983) if I remember correctly needless to say it was a sigh of relief. I can now go waste plenty of time on that piece of paper now.

16 hours for 1. Next real life day, in 2 hours... 3 drop. We had a thief with TH2 for a few hours the first day, didn't seem to help. Have fun x_x

I had a pty last night, and we got 3 drops in less than an hour. Then when it changed days, there were no drops for a long period of time. If wonder if the day or the moon phase affects the drops for the mold.

Yeah, the drop rate is rather random. Sometimes you'll get them quick, sometimes it takes forever.

9 hours for 5? Alot better than my drop rate. Party only needed 3 (2 had done G1 and one already had the mold) and we got 2 in 6 hours. I dread going back but because I was the one who ended up with the sucky lots (actually managed a 43 and a 4. That's right, just '4')
I pulled exorays for 9 hours to get 5 of these for G1. Nice drop rates SE.
