Just so everyone knows, ALL LB1 ITEMS CAN BE DUOED!
I remember the first time I got these things, everyone suggested finding a big group of like-leveled people or a high level... well that just gives you a big group of people that need the drop or a crap drop rate.
I(49WHM) and a bud (49 MNK/WAR) started in CN, we were actually both 48 at this point. We just targeted exos that con T+, drop rate was 2/7 or 8.
Then we went to eldiem, went to past to get cliff jump ability by trading flowers to shiny point leading up to where you used to have to go through xarcabard. We found a long tunnel with Lich pulls at both ends and again, passed on VT and just grabbed the T+ or T-, we were again about 2/7 or 8.
The only part about the bomb core that is no duo-able is the gate, after that they are a snap. we were about 2/3 on these.
LB1 all wrapped up like nothin, seems silly that got 2 jobs to 50 before I got past this quest the first time round^^

I've been trying in Necropolis for 3 days to get this papyrus, no success. We've gotten all other drops from liches EXCEPT the only one that matters. But all the bad juju I've gone through with this evened out because...
this was fun to get

Last night I camped this sh*t for 4 or maybe 5 hours, one drop and the whm in the party got it...
We were 5 people in party and only I and the whm needed it...
Decided to try again today, did some shouting in Jeuno and I didn't get any help >.<
Went to eldieme and shouted there, all were busy.
Suddenly a random 75 BLM passes by and I asked him, oh well, of course he could help me a little.
And on the 1.st lich, WHAM!, it drops it and we were like O.o... dude...

Best chance of you getting this is to do a shout for help in Lower Jeuno.
I did a shout with the possible offer of a reward if they wanted, and 4 people got back to me. Only 1 wanted the reward, and in the end my offer of 10k wasn't enough for them (bah). The other 3 kindly agreed to help, 70 NIN, 62 MNK, and 60 THF (for treasure hunter ^^).
Went in and started battering stuff. Drop took a long while but in the end it was okay. I died once after getting caught by an -aga spell and 3 skeletons aggroing me once my health went into the yellow, but blood ported back to Jeuno and returned on a Chocobo.
Probably killed about 20 Lichs (and countless other random things that happened to be in our way), and go the drop in the end. Big thanks to Jago, Javalar, and Bloodknight of Valefor for the help :-)

Have been killing Lichs for 2 weeks and no drop so far on Shiva.
I must have easily killed 200+ Lichs and no drop.
SE must do something about the drop rate on these. They are a really tough mob for a L48+ pt, and the drop rate rivals some of the gods.

HAHAHA u lucky sobs.. isnt that nice... I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THESE FREAKIGN LICHES FOR 20 HOURS+++ AND NO FREAKING DROP I HAVENT EVEN SEEN ONE! total bs. i had 6 ppl helping ME just me and it still didnt drop. most unlucky person ..ever.
Helped someone get this as a 65 Monk, while they waited at the entrance.
By that level, the things can't really hit me, but they sure hurt when they do... And being easy prey, some may aggro, some won't... So things get tricky.
Personally, I just went in through the bottom Battalia Downs entrance. Someone was being a **** with the gates at the time, so I resorted to pulling the enemies through it [If you get close, and tab around, you can lock-on to them and provoke/blast them].
Only real danger came from me stupidly missing one of them casting ancient magic, and being blasted by it... And then getting more aggro because I hit lower health. x.x; Finding a safe place to rest here is a bit difficult sometimes, but clearing out the wolf things gave me enough of a space to do so.
As far as moving around... The ghosts never aggroed me, but the shadows randomly did. Those are so much worse than the Liches. >.<;

GOT IT! after 45 mins ish with a 73 NIN (simtny) , and 60+ DRK (bravovido). I waited at exit while they killed the lich, prolly 25 or so went down b4 the drop, man i was relieved.

I've gotten my papyrus at last. I'm level 48 now and managed to get one with help of my NPC-buddy. I was on my RDM/NIN and her battle-mode was soothing healer (she is lvl 47). After a fierce attack (we both went into the red HP and MP-wise) it finally dropped from a VT Lich. Now I can concentrate on the other two items.
Although it took me 2 weeks and several deaths I'm glad I did it this way. Now I know it isn't impossible to do for a casual player. I don't party (or even play) alot, most of the time I'm leveling with my NPC.
I didn't really count how many Liches I have killed, I also killed alot of Hell Hounds. But my guess is that I killed 20 Liches varying from Tough to VT.
The papyrus dropped on Firesday 23:16 with Waning Gibbous at 86%.
Also I didn't know you could get there through Battallia, went every time all the way through beacudine and pulled Liches from the two opposite chambers near the entrance from Eldieme Necropolis.

I went to help my friend today, a lvl 50 BLM.
We took a lvl 63 BLM and a lvl 63 DRG. Also a 54 THF.
It starts out ok. We kill like 8 liches in like 10 minutes. Then bad stuff happens. The 50 blm and 63 BLM get over confident and pull a lich and die. We get them raised. Then I get aggroed by 3 mobs while resting and die. Then the 63 BLM gets aggroed and dies again. So I was like crap... But we continue on. I pull a lich and it Aeroga II and kills the 50 BLM who isn't done with rez sickness yet. So we decide to leave him dead. We kill a couple more liches and then I goto pull another one. The THF lags or something and runs right into 2 other skeles and gets owned. So its just me and a lich. I own them pretty bad so I'm not worried. But I also say this is the last one because I know God will answer my prayers(I seriously did stop and pray). We kill it and boom... it drops. I HP and the dead BLM gets the papyrus and everyone is happy. Never doubt the power of prayer.

I just got my paper for my new char. only took 4 kills, the I-11 entrance in Batallia is fine if you only need 1-2 papers. Special thanks to my LS mates Tonemaster, Nukaka, and Cscommander.^^

I went last night with an alliance of about 10 people - five who needed the papyrus. One of our party had TH2.
I kept count of the kills... We didn't get a papyrus until the 18th kill - and proceeded to get three more within the next 10 fights!
But gah... it changed to lightening day, so it was another 21 fights until we got the last one.
Sooo.... 49 liches killed total, for five of the ancient papyrus. Not really all that bad, if you ask me - it took about three hours or so. If it hadn't changed to lightening day, I think we would have gotten that last one much faster. :)

Did this today [BRD Lv.74] I'd say it was about 1/15 kills. Didn't have a problem, the person I was helping was a Lv.50 THF so we did have TH II. We went to the Beaucidine Glacier zone. Lich are right inside this zone and easy to pull.

Did it yesterday, it took me about mmmmm 5 minutes, just killed 3 liches and got it... must say this has been one of the easiest quest ever done...

yesterday we tried to get 2 papys.... it took over 7 hours to get ONE. so we have to try again today...
Went to Eldieme entrance that you get to through Glacier. Level 50 Whm/Smn and Level 52 Thf/Nin. I Carby pulled. Killed 2, then both got wiped out due to careless adds. Raised. Killed 2, I got killed because I messed up and didn't keep silence up enough. Raised. Killed 5 more, got drop.
Once we figured out where to stand to avoid adds and I figured out that I needed to concentrate on keeping silence up first and foremost, the battles were methodical and easy. If I had another level 50 with me it would have been downright slaughter.
Keep in mind though as a 50 whm I was using my high armor set (230 defense with prot 3), have a club skill within 5 points of cap for my level with a time hammer (yay blunt bonus on undead), and have a system worked out with my Thf friend where I turn the monster when his sneak attack is up with banish2/flash/holy.

I gotta do this in 4 levels..and i fear for my sanity. Currently 46SAM/23WAR as I`m typing this, but you`ll more than likely find me in Quicksand Caves. Luckily I have 2 lvl60+ MNKs in my linkshell, as well as a few more people 60+.. maybe they will help me.^^;

Everyone has some happy stories, and some sad ones, but not much in the way of helpful information. I've gotten this item for so many people I've lost track; I just grab some poor unfortnate in Lower Jeuno and head out.
Helpful tips: there are 2 Eldieme Necropolis entrances where you can find Lich's. I-11 Batallia downs, and one connected through Beaucidine Glacier>Batallia Downs. The I-11 entrance can be tricky as there are undead everywhere in the hallways, and the combination of gates, which require you to operate the East/West/North/South Plates to cycle the doors and allow access to different areas (2 are up, 2 are down at all times). If you've ever had to find the coffer in EN you know what I'm talking about. Anyone below level 66 (71 in areas with Utukku and Dark Stalkers) will require Sneak as the undead aggro to sound, and you will have to manage your HP: if it drops to yellow nearby undead aggro. The Beaucidine Glacier entrance, which will take 20 minutes just to get to, does not have the problem of doors, and I would recommend for parties without high level(~66+) help.
Strategy for I-11: I would recommend bringing some high level help (friends or mercenaries). Have 1 person stay near the East Plate(switch) so that the people killing Lichs don't get caught in a nasty place (caution: the Azer/bomb type monster that lives near the East Plate will aggro to sight or magic in its proximity). Standing at the switch, you should be safe from the surrounding monsters as well as in an good spot to help any other people who need the doors to be switched around; now, have the people hunting Lichs run around the necropolis in a big circle killing the bone-heads in any of the 4 rooms with a Brazier. Once those are cleared out, head to the SE room (~H8 I think) flip the switch so they can exit to the South. In the south room, drop down the middle hole (avoid the one just to west as that has coffer mobs which would more than love to kill a 75) you'll find 2 lichs down in the hole, follow the path up to the left, and you'll find 2 more on the stairs, the rooms next to the hallway have Tomb Warrior/Mages, so be careful. The stairway leads back to the entrance room, so follow the big circle around again and continue this cycle until you get the drop.
Strategy for BC entrance: if you're a PT of level 50's (like when I did G1) this is the spot for you. Camp at the entrance, kill the 2 Hell Hounds, sneak the puller and have them grab lichs.
As for the actual item dropping, it's 100% luck imo. Reading other posts some people get the paper 5 times in a row, and others don't see a single piece for 5 days running. Does a Full Moon influence luck? most likely, having a 45+ THF? that might help too, but I've seen no real difference in the 100+ (no exaggeration) number of times I've gone inside EN and hunted Lichs.
This game wasn't meant to be easy, and anything worthwhile in the game will take time. If you want to speed things up, bring a good MNK (Asuran Fists @_@!) and a RDM/BRD as Lich almost always have Ice Spikes up (Dispel <3)

Nothing should drop that poor. We were getting 1-2 exp per kill and I got like 200-300 exp by the time we stopped. Last Battle cause the DRK who was tanking (we had WHM SMN 2BRD BLM DRK all 50+) had to go. I was to get the 1st drop, so Finally it drops because SE new we were giving up, some1 else lots on it!(I was 1st Drop let me remind you) I almost brokedown right there.
Summoner got aggro from a Lich so we have to kill it and it drops! 2 In a Row after 8hrs!

Got this item yesterday with some friends... We were a 75 RNG, 70 PLD, a 60ish PLD (don't remember the level well lol), a 50 PLD, a 50 BLM and a 48 DRG (me). (thank you guys!) We fought a LOT of lichs for 2 hours (we were pretty fast) without drop. During the first hour BLM d\c'd and a 49 THF joined us. No drop, either with th2.
We were quite desperate when suddenly a lich dropped the papyrus. We casted lots, and i lost =\ (91 vs 700+ lol) Then the rng pulled another lich.. and OMFG! ANOTHER PAPYRUS! i got my one in this way:D
i forgot to check the moon phase or the day, btw ;_;
Note: We camped in an area of Eldieme reachable from Beaucedine Glacier..^^

Got mine in under an hour, had 75PLD and 60RDM help out (thanks Taleen and Zakari! <3 )
