If you used sneak or silent oil you would not have been attacked...Im still waiting for the scroll im guessing 8AM PST however this one was pretty easy Dont know why someone would pay 250k for it... Good luck...

You need level 4 fame (average) in both Bastok and San'd Oria to get this quest, which in turn is also how Selbina fame works, so you can do quests in Selbina and get fame for Bastok San'd Oria, and Rabao.

With hero fame in San d'Oria I easily got this quest while saving up for Haubergeon. Bought some Silent Oils and went into Quicksand Caves with no map but I had my laptop up with a map from http://www.killingifrit.com/ffximaps/Quicksand%20Caves.htm I found my ??? at spot #4 and opened a coffer while I was there for map of Quicksand Caves lol.
Just remember when you go back to Rabao and talk to Alfesar, he gives you a key item to take to Charlaimagnat in San d'Oria, then you have to go back to Alfesar in Rabao, then wait until 8am pacific for the next "day" to receive your scroll from Charlaimagnat. Piece of cake.
P.S. I heard you need level 4 fame for teleport scroll quests but I may be wrong.

Same thing happened with me, found the coffer and found the ???, unfortunatley there was an antica right by the coffer so he killed me after i opened the chest so i had to run back.

The fame here baffles me but i was pleasantly surprised to see i had a ton of it. Anyway he sends you to Quicksand Caves to retreive a piece of a broken tablet. I will try to get some in game help and i will post back later. gl
