if you craft this and your smithing level is 0 could your smithing go up as well?

Cause they are supposed to be slower and do WAY more damage. The one my freind made the bolt went into a foot wide tree and was sticking out the other side.

I just crafted one on first attempt with 4 smithing and 7 woodworking. Gained .2 woodworking.

What lvl do u have to be before you can turn in Xioph for the test?
Im pretty sure that the level for smithing that is being shown here is wrong. With a level 6 smithing skill I just crafted 10(one of them being a +1) and 2 failures with not a single skill raise. That should not be possible if it is 3 levels above my current skill. I should have gotten a skill raise on at least half of them.

I am also quite certain of this. When I was at Smithing 8 and Woodworking 9 I decided to do these to kill two birds with one stone because Smithing can kill your cash flow if you aren't careful (it was a profit synth on Fairy). After lvling Woodworking from 9 to 12 entirely on these (roughly 36 of 'em) I still had not seen a single Smithing skillup. My tears were bitter and intense.
