Everyone used to get on my case about buying a dark staff...I never wanted to spend 200k on a staff I didn't ever skill up on.
I was good at healing without one as well. Then at level 72 I came upon this beauty for 48000 conquest points. I had only 30k or so saved up...so I checked the AH. There were nine of them for sale at an average price of 9000gil!
So now I spend 9000 gil while everyone else wastes 200k on a darkstaff. I think I got the deal :)

You think that's a deal? You only get +8 MP regen (versus 10), it doesn't have add'l effect: dark damage, and you don't get the extra 10% effectiveness on Drain, Aspir, Sleep, etc, and you have to wait 20 levels until nearly end game to get it.
Yeah, you get an extra 20HP and 10MP, but that's really insignificant at that level, especially when you take into account that the 10MP is trumped by an extra 5 ticks of dark staff healing, or a single extra Aspir. Plus the dark staff's magic restorative properties can be useful mid-battle, while a higher max MP cannot.

um... actaully it is extremely rare that I cast sleep as a blm, and even with the dark staff, sleep is next to useless without elemental seal. so... if you're high enough level for this thing, i'd say it's an acceptable replacement for a dark staff. the only problem is... how could you get to 71 wihtout a dark staff??!?! is you had a dark staff but sold it for this b/c you needed the cash that's one thing. but if you never had a dark staff at all... i don't know how you survived.

Sleep may be next to useless for you, but for those of us with decent gear and moderately levelled enfeebling magic, it sticks no problem 90%+ of the time.

Thats funny, I'm on Leviathan, do /sea all Hellbeacon all the time and I've never seen him. Hmmm, imagine that, I've also never seen any level 75 DRKs that wear that equipment. Well, this is just funny.

Please stop trolling and spredding mis-information. It's impossible to have two of these. First, because it's rare (which means you can only have one on you). Second, you can't equip two 2-handed weapons (which a staff is). On top of that, the dark staff has a regen of 10, and you can get it at level 51. This used to be the best item for mages, but now the darkstaff has made this item pretty much worthless.

Can get it with 48,000 CP's if your of the same nation or double that if your from a differant nation. It is possible to by items from other nations but it would be double in CP's to aquire it.
And to buy items with conquest points from another country, your country has to be higher. So if you want to buy this, and you are not from Windy, you will have to wait until Windy is not in first place and your country is higher. And you will have to be Rank 9. And have 96,000 CP.
