What a chump...!
# May 25 2008 at 10:38 PM Rating: Decent
Very doable as a level 61 Beastmaster/Ninja. My gear is as follows;

Light Staff.
Beast Jackcoat
Beast Helm
Beast Gaiters
Beast Trousers
Beast Gloves
Amemet Mantle
Bird Whistle
Corsette +1
Pearl Ring x2
Melody Earring x2

Use Utsusemi: Ichi and whatever food you plan on using (I use Tavnazian Taco). If you're lucky you can bug a White Mage for a Protect IV (It will help in case things to awry). Charm the closest monster and have it fight Aquarius. Run into the hall between the room that Aquarius spawns in, and the room where Ellyllon spawns. Face towards Aquarius while targeting one of the two spiders in the room. As soon as your pet dies charm the spider and send it to its death. Run into the room with the five Death Caps and do the same thing. Next will be a hall with three spiders and a left turn. Charm a spider, send it to his death. If you keep going straight, there will be a branch to your right that will lead you back up to the entrance in case of failure (Hug the right wall at that point). Hopefully you will not have had to use that turn. Moving on... Further ahead of you will be a small room that has a couple spiders and a couple Death Cap.Charm one, send it to die. This room has a branch to the left that will lead you back to where Aquarius spawns. From here on out it's just a matter of repeating what you were doing and keeping shadows up. Always have three. Always. If he hits you and removes one or two shadows before your pet can attack him, run to your next charmable pet and start casting Utsusemi. This WILL take you quit some time. He has 6600 or so hit points, and will periodically use [METALLIC BODY] (Ie; Stoneskin). He will be hitting you for between 200-300 damage. Your pets average lifespan is around 20 seconds. I recommend learning the map and all spawn points of the monsters first. Don't use [SIC] as no pet will ever have enough TP to use a TP move unless you managed to [CHARM] and [FAMILIAR] something. Knight Crawlers make great tanks, but are harder to charm and should be close to Very Tough for you. Warp Cudgels are your friend. Don't be afraid to zone him if you have to. I've noticed that if you zone him or if he kills you, often times he won't un-spawn but will rather walk back to his spawn point.

For any BST that may want this axe by 63, I have managed to knock it down to about 1/3rd HP as a lvl 62 BST/WHM using the Death Caps, Bark Spiders and my NPC to cure me in between but it is relatively difficult as those pets go down in about 10 seconds and you will be stressed to constantly to keep up stoneskin while rushing to your next pet. I lost when I mischarmed and accidently charmed a link my friend slept leaving nothing to stall Aquarious.

Tried this again at lvl 64 solo using the Mouriches, Moss Eaters, Robber Crabs, and Knight Crawlers and managed to bring him down after reclaiming when a party jacked it at roughly 1-2%. Took about 50 pets and an hour of time or so but I was happy to get my axe.

If you do plan to fight this guy solo as a BST/WHM around my lvl:
-Keep your distance when you go to charm a new pet
-Blink/Stoneskin if possible between pets
-Heal away from Aquarious

Happy hunting!

*EDIT*
Tried this again at 75 for a friend.I think 5-6 Korrigans would've brought down the one I was fighting though thismay have been an easier Aquarius. Just be sure to use your light staff as Korrigans can be mean uncharmed.

75 bst/37whm
kept blink and stoneskin up
led him upstairs where I threw about 30 high lvl pets at him.
Thank goodness no mischarms but took about 25 min to beat him.
Got the axe

This question may or may not have been asked already, but is it possible for a Rdm/Nin (75/37 of course...) to solo this? Or would I need some kinda help? Just figured i'd ask before trying, thanks!

is there any hidden effect in this axe? cuz this seems weird but during ws "rampage" with 100tp it does almost the same damage as my woodville's axe... i tested in qufim on giant for awhile... and the damage is pretty close...

I'm thinking the very same thing...but I think it has possibly more in the ATT area. I have compared this Axe to my Tabarzin(49DMG), Lohar(47DMG) axe', and this Fransisca hits harder than both occasionally. In fact quite often it will have higher DOT throughout parties. I have not tested Rampages with it...but will do so now^^

What is the most consistent mob anyway? (i.e. does not buff or do counter measures to your attacks) Hell, are there any?

Someone on my server told me that Fransisca gives you "a little widescan." I tested this out as WAR69 main, with NIN and RNG subs. NIN sub gave me no widescan whatsoever and RNG sub did not show any difference with or without Fransisca. I tested this in North San d'Oria because the NPCs mostly stand still, so there could be no question of whether or not extra mobs moved into range giving the appearance of greater widescan. I cannot confirm if this improves widescan for RNG main.
Got this nice axe yesterday.

I got this nice axe yesterday.

A ls friend BST 74 told that Aquarius was out and I asked if he can solo it, he said he can try and I needed the axe so joined him, he charmed decent challenge mobs and let them fight it but we got in troubles a few times when the charm failed a PLD lvl 70 ish helped us, not tanking it but cured us, he got killed but had RR2 up.

After some time it was low on HP and we fight it for the last blow.

I was WAR 71 and it hit me for 200 a hit very fast and that hurts allot, ouch.

We bumped into mr Crabby here on our way to an xp party (lvl 68-70ish). we had just rebuilt our pt after leaving Bibiki Bay (waaaay too crowded nowadays) and I arrived first and was waiting on the pt members. I was listening in on the pt chat when our RNG mentioned Aquarius has been spotted. Somebody decided to take a crack at Aquarius just to try our luck and I quickly scanned the map and converged upon my pary.

By the time I arrived near the area, our pld was at close to 50% hp... I managed to see my pt scattered across the near vicinity tryign to zone when I tossed Gravity on it and it stuck pretty nicely (thank you spider torque! XD) we were pondering the decision to simply zone it when our ldr decided we should take it.

We lured Aquarious into one of the larger circular areas near the entry tunnels and gathered for the fight. our pt consisted of RDM, SMN, SMN, RNG, PLD and MNK. We gathered ourselves in the center while the PLD kited it around the outer edges. the SMN's summoned their Avatars and proceeded to beat the hell out of it while healing the pld... Thr RNG kept taking shots at it as it went around in circles. I kept Gravity and Aspir on it, Refreshed the mages, while doing the occsional Thunder II or so... slowly, we saw that our strategy was prevailing... until one of the SMN's ran out of mp... then the other. By now the NM was mostly dead and one last quick drop of my Thunder II polished it off.

Needless to say, it was one of the funnest NM's I had the pleasure of taking on.... and we had a well-tuned group that quickly adapted despite heavy injuries from early attempts to escape.

In the end, I think the key is Gravity, a good kiter, and plenty of ranged attacks.

P.S. We got the drop, except the RNG alrdy has one... so we gave it to the pld who may lvl war eventualy... XD

Why do people think Aq is tough?
# Dec 19 2005 at 5:42 AM Rating: Decent
This guy went down quite easily. He's very susceptible to enfeebles (Gravity most notably) and doesn't hit as hard as some more powerful monsters I could mention. His power is far too over-rated in my opinion.

If a 75 gets their butt handed to them by this crab, then chances are they weren't paying enough attention. But then, I'm a red mage so maybe I'm a little biased.

Anyway, the axe is very nice though I have no use for it. I'm keeping it just in case I ever go back to levelling ranger though. Just a shame you can only own one since dual wielding these things would be awesome. I killed it for the challenge rather than the item. Well, that and his very presence was disrupting normal XP parties in the tree so I figured I was doing a public service. Gravity, the occasional bind and lots of nuking brought this crab to oblivion. A fun battle, but I think I'll try something more worthwhile next time. Like serket. If anyone needs this axe and I happen to be in the tree (Siren server) give me a holler and I'll nuke him for ya.

Alright, between my warrior, dark knight, and my ranger, where are not enough axes between levels. As a warrior a stuck with dark steel axes for as long as I can, and still use them, sometimes I alternate with nin/sub so I can level 2 weapons at a time. and there's not enough axes to go thru a balanced weapon LT system. Yet, we have this weapon and only a higher class/levels can deal with, and the spawn is once a day <if you have a chance> I need this weapon, but I can't live more than 40 sec to even look at it!

Was in an xp party as my RNG (54) at the time.

Was running around not really paying attention pulling crabs back to camp. We were killing crabs pretty quick so I'd usually have to wait for one to pop. One popped, I targeted it without even thinking, and hit my pull macro.

Boy was I suprised when my macro read:

Get ready to kick the *bleep* out of this Aquarius
Incoming

Needless to say I was lucky I turned in enough time to prevent me from even shooting. Fortunately I had just put a /wait 1 in my macro which not only saved my life, but my party members as well.

Well we all had a good laugh and I went back to pulling regular crabs while Aquarus sat there and taunted me.

About an hour passes and not one person attempted to kill it. I'm running around again trying to find some crabs and what to I do? Targeted Aquarius AGAIN. Luckily I noticed and was able to run to prevent the pull (party didnt think it was as funny second time around).

About another 15 mins. pass by and a brave Ninja decided to give Aquarius a try. Things were going good until the Ninja lost his shadows. After that it was pretty much over. The Ninja almost made it to zone, but ended up getting KOd just before (I can only imagine the parties coming in seeing none other then Aquarius stareing them in the face as they zoned).

Another Ninja showed up and decided to try his luck. Fight lasted at most 2 min. before his shadows dropped and he was forced to 2 hour.

Needles to say I was becoming aggitated. Seeing this crab completely tear apart two higher level NINs. Not only was I irritated at the fact that Aquarius went unclaimed for so long, but also thinking about the day when I would have to return to face this crab.

Then a shout: "Aquarius {Do you need it?}". To which the DRK in my party replies "{Yes please}". I asked the DRK if he needed the axe and he said no. Thankfully he let me join the party that was going to kill it.

I quickly disband my xp party and get invited to the one that was going to fight it. I was suddenly sad seeing only two people in the group. A 70 NIN and 70 WHM. Seeing how the two NINs earlier got beat so badly I felt I was on my way to a sure death.

The battle began and I started spaming bolts like crazy to no avail. Either I missed completely, or hit for 1 damage. I finally got enough TP to weapon skill which did 3 damage total. Fight was going good and then it happens. Ninjas shadows drop. Thankfully he was able to get them back up in time and the WHM was able to to get his HP back.

After 3 stacks of bolts (for those that are not aware 99 bolts make up a stack), 35 min. fighting, and the NIN going through his stash of tools, we kill it. Axe dropped and was passed to me.

Though it seamed that it was going to be another failed attempt and I would have to return again later on, it actually turned out pretty good.
I said my thank yous and disbanded the party.

I got re-invited to my xp party and apologized for doing that to them. Thankfully they understood and had a good time watching us beat on that crab. After about five min waiting for a couple people to return from being AFK I went back to pulling without any worries of accidently snagging Aquarius on accident, and was able to hit 55 and unlock Sidewinder and Slug Shot.

For those that want this axe I recommend asking parties in the tree if Aquarius is out and if it is to get a Godly NIN to tank it, and a higher up WHM to cure when the NINs shadows do drop. Otherwise, you'll need a nice bit of DD and some healers to take it down.

Sorry for the long post, hopefully it was somewhat entertaining, and good luck if you ever run inot this steroid taking crab.

Got mine... this thing has insane defence

I was in a party killing crawlers, just past the waterfall. After a few hours of great xp we had a water elemental pop on our party and our rdm escaped us, before anyone would die. As we walked into boyahda tree we ran smack into aquarius and it nearly killed our monk with his 1500 hp (makes me tarutaru sick!) we shouted out for help and a lvl 75 ninja/warrior named "STONE" ( I love you man ) joined our party and we proceeded to pass hate and nearly die until finally we let the ninja get some hate. even with a rdm casting dispell and me using alot of R.atk gear i would hit for 12 hp and SideWinder for 120 the ninja 75 was doing spirits withing for 120-140 and it took 30min to kill the *******. I got the drop and im a very happy rng. thank you for reading my long and silly ost but i just wanted STONE from garuda to get his props!!!! BTW we had a rdm, whm, thf, rng, nin, all 63~ and a nin75

I just got this baby while partying in the tree. The easiest way to get it is to go to the tree and if people are camping it, ask if they need it or not. Most don't camp AQ for the axe. If it drops and the people don't need it. Most will gladly give it away. That's how I got mine. ^.^

Same thing happened to me. Pt was running to out camp and I ran past 3 crabs with sneak on and saw Aquarius was one of the three. I almost froze for a second thinking it would aggro even with sneak but he didn't. A few mins later several BSTs /shout if anyone needed Fransisca and I got the lot. XD
