Just for the record - I was desynthing these lanterns into bronze sheets with just 26 smithing. You don't need 51 to start breaking these down for smithing, but it's more profitible for Alchemists to break them down for glass fibers.

Eh.. when I used a water crystal it made olive oil one time it made 2 jars of toad oil, and one time it made slime oil... and when I tryed wind I made brass sheet. Only thing is I have level 0 smithing.. so it can't be level 51 smithing. Earth, Fire, and Dark didn't work.
I DIDNT GET A SINGLE SKILL GAIN ON ANY OF THE 10 that I synthed.

Theory: because of the random product I concluded that this is all desynthesis so you don't get skill gains and the product is random.

It was a Waning Gibbous.. don't know if that matters.

I don't know if it was just me, or what, but I have gotten skill from de-synth. Now I have to tried tonberry lanterns, and my alchemy is now too high to lvl from trying the alchemy versions. However, I will tell you, when I have gotten skill from desynth is has come pouring in. However, I have also done over thirty crafts without getting a single .1. The conditions do have to be correct. As to what you have found from the water crystal bit. That is an effect of HQ synths. It also means you may have stumbled on an unknown formula for Silent Oil:). Olive Oil is a weak form of Slime Oil. So, Olive oil is the normal craft. Slime is a higher HQ result, and I don't know about toad oil, but I can assure you I am buying some tonite and trying it:). Oh, and try doing synths only on Darkday, and make sure you have the right stuff in placed in your mog house when you try to craft using lightning crystals... saves alot of gil:)
