Luckily my homecountry Bastok is #1, had lv 3 newly got. Bought 15x2 Cornettes and trade them in, and yippie i got Lv4 Fame. Now i can do Teleport-Mea quest!
It may be more or less cornettes, but im pretty sure my lv 3 fame was at the beginning span. No others quest done but this one. Hope it helps.
I crafted Cornettes, yesterday (and some last weekend) to get Goldsmithing & Bonecraft from lv 9 (each) to lvl 12 & 13.
De-synthing the cornettes was successful maybe half the time or so 'til I got to the skill levels that I currently have. About half of the de-synths (for ppl like me who didn't have a clue for some time - use lightning crystal + cornette ^^) were brass ingots (other half were bone chips).
This, I think is a very useful way to skillup these crafts in these levels.
Also, facing just a few degrees to the 'left' of south seemed to result in the better skill-ups when synthing the cornettes. De-synthing seemed more unpredictable - I ended up mostly facing the opposite way.
I forget all of the exact accepted ways to face. I just trial & error for awhile (or copy ppl nearby) to face a particular way.
I always barely turn, or face a little different between each time de/synthing. Though there may be no more substance to that idea than, say, superstition it does give me something to do at least, lol.
They do have a section where they estimate about how many quests you have to complete for each fame level. (I say 'estimate' because it doesn't seem to be an exact number and may depend on which particular quests you do, I'm just not really sure.)

i'm lvl 14 bonecraft and lvl 7 goldsmith now since i been making these on my server on ah they sell for 1000 gil hq i think about 50k i sell both regulsr and hq triple cheap ^_^ regular for 300 gil hq for 20k.

Just found out that these are not sold at Bastok Markets music shop unless Bastok is in 2nd place overall. I learned it from someone else so it's not my "finding" but just thought it'd be useful to post.
Just found that out the hard way... 4 airship trips (2 on both characters) and I find out that I can't buy these things =\ Guess I'm moving to another quest, possibly costly...
has anyone been able to successfully use a lightning crystal and break this down? if so, what is the yeild? ive tried maybe 5 times, and all ive gotten is 5 busted lightning crystals, and a lost a couple of cornettes :?
These things drop all the time in the saru zones. I get them all the time and sell them in the auction house for 150-200 gil they have been a really good consistent source of income.

Very few items can desynth a high number of items that it takes to make.
Doesn't seem like it is worth it, to me.
