One of the hardest coffers
# Feb 03 2008 at 6:58 AM Rating: Decent
So being SAM61 with Haubergeon, Chivalrous and so on, I decided to open this coffer just for the looks of the piece. I already had a coffer key that dropped on ZM4, so I went there as PLD75 to check coffer spots. First, the Guardian killed me with Meltdown, and I was able to confirm that the coffer was behind of the Uggalepih door (you can notice it by pressing tab key). A ls fellow needed help with G1, so I decided to try it again the next day. I went to the Temple again like 10 hours later, and the coffer was still there. I started to farm for Uggalepih keys, but not a single drop after 2h+ of farming. Then, suddenly, the coffer spawned in front of me, in the room with the doll and 3 tonberrys. I warped back to Aht Urghan, changed jobs, bought some prisms and took outpost warp to Yhoator Jungle and bingo.

Just take care with the 3 tonberrys if the coffer pops in that room.

So this coffer is a pain in the ***, one of the few that is not soloable if you have bad luck and spawns behind Guardian, unless you go there at lvl 75.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned this yet.
This is excellent for when a Samurai has to pull (Archery skill for a reason), he takes damage while this is on, and if he's lucky he'll have more TP by the time he gets back to camp then he puts Hauby or w/e back on.
Errrrr
# Oct 26 2007 at 7:17 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, you really shouldn't take hits when pulling. seigan third eye for a reason.

Anyhow, I personally can't think of very little utility for this piece, not because it sucks, but because of the various alternatives at that level which are so much better. SH, hauby, jaridah, shin. harae-ate, and even RK chainmail (+5 atk, +2 acc, +2 str and +2 dex after 2handed update) are all good options.

But still! This armour is one is really, Really, REALLY good-looking.

I am wondering do I have to have the AF hands quest on to get this or can I just get it any time? I want to know before I do so I dont have to do allthat extra crap just to get it.

Im looking for this coffer last night and just curious, how much money does it give out to anyone who opens it besides the map? Im probably going to hang out by the temple and shout out a bigger offer if anyone there finds it.
Why its important to clear tonberry hate! lol

Ok, first of all il tell you a bit about who i am, and why we are doing this godforsaken thing in the first place ^^
Well my main character is Climhazzard (72RDM). but i got really really bored and i decided to lvl my SAM up on my other character Omnislash.... so yeah, its all going well ive managed to get to lvl 50 with G1 complete in a little under 3weeks (every1 thinks im nuts coz i didnt do anything else) but then come the dreaded AF quests... ewwwww
I thought this was gonna be really really really nasty at first but then i came up with a brilliant idea (!) why dont i enlist some help.. all i need is 2 ppl to help, and i can log Omnislash in the temple, and kill on Climhazzard... if a key drops, il switch back and lot on it!! YUREEKA! a plan is formed!!

i do a quick "/l Rissa, Alume you're going SAM, why not come with me and get temple key!?".. BAM, theres my 2 helpers^^! took me a while to get to the temple with 2 characters, also met an old friend on the way, so dragged him and his wife out there also... so we finally all there and begin the key hunt! :)
not long after, i got my key.. then another.. and another... just 1 more to go /hurray thats when we had a problem....
some ****** decided to zone bonze marberry! -.-
we are a bunch of TOUGH *** ppl, so we say to each other.. aww hell lets just take it! so we start fighting.
im damage tanking (voke is for pussies, plus who needs it with eviseration and joyeuse) we get it down to 25% in no time at all thx to ppl spamming penta thrust, evisceration and slug shot...
Then this happened:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/badoboyclim/pol2006-04-1423-51-19-49.jpg

after about 10mins of me ROFL at dieing more than 8 times over, i finally gained my composure to realize my party was wiped, the NM owned and alot of ppl crying on there floors laughing at the amount of damage a taru RDM took!! :D

so anyway... long story short....
ERASE YOUR TONBERRY HATE OR ELSE!! ROFL!

# Oct 07 2005 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
I got the coffer straight away. I was down with my LS looking for Unlit Lanterns and decided to get my AF whilst we were there. I Sneak/Invis with a 71RDM and it was in the corner. Took me all of 5-10 minutes. Guess I've been rather lucky on my coffers.

As for the Domaru being better than Haubergeon, all I'm gonna say is certain party leaders get really ratty if you don't have the Haub because they think you are 'majorly gimped'. I bought a Haubergeon just after I got this AF piece, I'll be sure to try out both and see what advntages each of them has to offer (although Haub is pretty much straight forward).

I know how most samurai would rather go for haubergeon which has str, dex, acc, and atk (It's what you have alwasy wanted since you were a little kid) but I feel that The AF body puts up a nice fight compared to the Haubergeon. I am sure I am not the only one but when I hit the mob I hit it for about 13-14 TP now say you have 80 TP and you use Meditate then you use your WS and get about 13-14 TP for using it. Now your at 93-94 TP when Meditate finishes. Here come two scenarios: 1st, you kill the Mob and you are left with 93-94 TP when you pull with the AF body you can get extra TP, I Think 6-8 I may be mistaken but that brings you right to 100 TP for use of another WS. 2nd, You hit so hard with your WS that you get a stray hit from the mob and that brings you to 100 TP. Another use for the AF over Haubergeon is when you are used for SATA not just the VIT boost but also the TP boost when hit. I am normally first voke (as any normal sata setup) and for the first part of SATA I get about 4-6 hits off the mob depending on when he wants to use it. That 4-6 hits with a TP boost bring you pretty high up with TP. It is great when trying to SC off yourself. Get to 80 TP use meditate then use WS get hit a few times during the begining of SATA with a few strikes to the Mob, that I am almost sure should bring you up to 100 TP in matter of seconds, which is all the time you have anyway. Haubergeon's -5 AGI and -20 EVA hurts plenty if you already have -10 EVA from wearing Spike earrings or Coral Earrings. Lets just say the few hits you used to dodge wont happen anymore... The last and final reason why AF is better then Haubergeon is the +15 Darkness resist. For those of you who have sniper's rings and are tired of getting hit by Too weak demons, this may help you out a little, for those of you who don't have Sniper's rings the +15 resist boost will help your demon killer trait (I beleave that is what a Sam was ment to kill) If you don't have anywhere near 2.6 mil I would definately suggest this fine piece of equipment. But for those of you that do have 2.6 mil and you want to buy it go ahead, be my guest it'll never hurt you. Personaly I do not want Haubergeon but I did want to spend my 2.3 mil in savings, so I bought a Daihannya which will take the place of Haubergeon for now.

wat?? samurais evasion sucks anyway and if you have a good tank you shouldnt have to worry about evasion, the haubergon is ALWAYS the 1st choice, especially for the +5 STR & DEX, not to mention the ACC boost. i only wear this around Jeuno to show it off since it took me 3 days in the Temple of Tonberry Hell to get.

Samurai has B+ in evasion. Haubergeon is for pure offence, this is for defensive use, such as solo.

The "if you have a good tank you shouldn't get hit" argument is complete nonsense. You are going to get hit at some point, that is all there is to it.

Party: Haubergeon.
Solo: Domaru/some other peice of chest armour.

I belive that I'm gonna have to go with the fact that if you have this armor to complete your set of artifact, you might as well use it to help for when you do pull or, for heavens sake, you get some aggro.(OH NOESSS!!) You might just wanna have this macroed for those 3-6 attacks that will hit you while you get that SATA setup. Just a thought. (I will also have me a hauby, but i realize that anyway i can get more tp for skillchains im still doing my job as samurai.) I'll take skillchains for the win.

You cant compare this big piece of crap with a hauby. Makes no sense, is like compare a plastic knife with a steel one. Seriously, i cant figure what playstyle do you have to practice for this thing to be half as effective as the haubergeon... SAM is a dd, not a tank (just in case you havent noticed).
This is like telling us to go equip MND rings because they give magic defense for when we get hit by mob -ga spells...

All this is made null and void by the changes that were done to samurai in the last update that effected them. <Hasso> giving acc, attack, and haste helps alot standardly, but when you're using <Seigan> and <Third Eye> together, it let's you evade from one attack to many attacks that come your way. This is wonderful for the times that you're first provoke for SATA purposes.

I didn't get this thing until last night at 71 Samurai. I went in to find the coffer because I knew I wouldn't get aggro. I didn't get my Haubergeon until like level 69 (I used a Master's Gi before this). I went down one night and a 50 something SAM was going for his coffer. I looked everywhere even passed the Temple Guardian and didn't find it, so we both knew it was behind the door you need the key for. I killed a lot of Tonberry Cutters (pain in the *** these are), but no key drops. I figured I'd just come back later and check the easier spots. When I checked last night, it was in the corner of the painting room where you go to get to Den of Rancor.

The thing I'm interested in is if anyone has tested the effect of this armor on TP boosting. "When damaged" is vague but I'm guessing it applies to physical damage like getting hit and AE and not offensive magic spells. I'm not sure if it works on things like crab's AE Bubble Shower. What I want to know is how often this thing boosts TP and by how much. I don't know if anyone has this information, but whatever you have is better than mine since I just got the thing.

PS: Thanks in advance.

Ok all together (including the running, the fighting and finding the coffer) it took me just a little over an hour. This coffer is not hard if you do not panic and have a steady flow of invis pots. Nothing (as far as i know) aggroes to sound. When you get to the coffer area be wary of mobs around you because you will have to let your invis down a lot to open doors. I did this by myself and found the coffer on my second trip here because when i first went i needed a special key to open a door the coffer was in. If the coffer isnt there when you go the first time, warp out and try again in a couple of hours. Good luck and be ware of the temple gaurdians who aggro to magic. :)

I was able to dou coffer mobs as a 75 RNG with a 75 THF from my linkshell very easily. I could have solo'ed these mobs easy enough for the key.

Getting the coffer will require luck, skills, and agro knowledge. You need luck in that it is not in one of the 4 location you basically can not reach solo. You need skills and agro knowledge to find and open the coffer.

I found it immediatly in one of the smaller rooms after checking the first small room, safe room, and kitchen. I will be honest searching for this had me on pins and needles because it is very risky doing it solo.

You have to basically blindly open doors that will have mobs standing on the other side. You will have to take down blink to open the door. You will have to put blink back up in most case before going through the door.

You do this by checking for agro around you and then standing to the side of the door. I stood on the same side as the mob did which I would determine by using my radar. Then you will need to quickly take down Invisible wait a second for the game to register it being down, and then really fast click on the door, open inventory, use prism powder, and then run inside. You will need prism powders even if you go /NIN because the cast time on Tonko: ichi is to long to get it up before the door will close, and I do not recommend just running into these rooms without Invisible.

Once you find the coffer it's just a matter of waiting on the mob to turn it's back. At this point Tonko: ichi is very useful because it will go on over itself without needing to let it wear or take it down. When the mob turns it's back open the coffer and quickly put invisible back up. I recommend just using some type of warp device at this point because if you think getting into the rooms with tonberries in then is hard well it won't be much easier getting out ^-^

Guess i'll share my story while shouting in Jeuno for help with Dark Spark i ran a search on the temple. Saw a guy i'd been in a party with before so asked what lvl were the mobs there his reply was (hey i'm 75 an still get agro in some places). Now i'm thinking just fudging great the guy then asks why i wanted to know. Long story short hes like well uh we could give u hand.

With a smile on my face i fly and ride to the temple. Get there meet up with him and his friend. We go for the key mobs get squat for like an hr so he calls in a 75 THF. Got the key real quick after that but we couldn't find the cest. So i went back to town to shout for my gloves when the guy goes uh we could help with that too.

So the Spark gets smashed in like a minute i go back an get my AF gloves. I then spend the next week at the temple shouting for help an runing round getting killed. Finally i send out a shout and get a tell saying Treasure Box found it. A quick invite an about two minutes later i've got my body. Funny thing is i almost paid 100k for a RDM to help with the doors.

Reason of Haubergeon > Domaru

You brought up a good point about why Square gave the body piece those stats when the Haubergeon clearly has better stats when exping. However, that's just it. The Haubergeon has better stats when EXPing. If you'll notice, ALL Artifact Armor boosts the specific job abilities and job traits of every job. For this reason, some job AF is good for exping, and some isn't. That's why White Mages usually wear their full AF while exping, as well as Red mages (Black mages usually have SOME gear switches) and Paladins. Their gear gives them EXACTLY what they need while exping.

However, many damage dealing jobs need more than what their AF gives to them. Samurai is a good case. While the TP boost when getting hit is a nice bonus (Which also can be traced back to the rumors of samurai once being a new tank job) AND the Vit +3 is a nice help, Samurai has other options for body gear in exp PT. The Haubergeon is our naturally best choice, with the accuracy bonus, STR and DEX (Final 3 WS's, 75% STR modifier). Also now, at 70, the Hachiman Domaru seems to be an even better choice with the right gear set up. I personally will probably trade in my Haubergeon for it when I strike 70.

Precisely. When you are in a XP party, there are Damage Dealers, Tanks, Healers, etc. Because jobs like SAM are classified as DMG dealers, they only concentrate on one aspect of their job (DDing) while neglecting other abilities (such as Third Eye).

When you wear AF, think about it as making your job++. In other words, every aspect of the job is increased, not just your ATTK aor ACC.

Actualy this is what I have heard is the best choice.

For Sam/rng:
Hachiman Domaru > Haubergeon

For Sam/thf or Sam/war:
Haubergeon > Hachiman Domaru

Yes the hachiman has more str, but who needs str if you cant even hit the mob lol
Oh No!!!

I'm lvl 55 Sam/Rng ive heard bad stories about this coffer. The key is extremely easy to get ive been in many skill up party's and this place wasn't stingy with there coffer keys ^_^ Ive heard the coffer is a ****** to get to with all the doors.

Im getting haubergeon (only 300k more to go) but i think this will be a nice solo/pulling piece like it says in some of the post's below. Even though if you know how to pull and your pld knows how to voke when you get to camp you shouldnt get hit. But it still looks nice and it complete's the set. I personally think haubergeon has some really high and really low points very very nice for dex str acc and att but if your trying to evade or trying to use rnged attacks and ws's like sidewinder (me in 2 lvls) its not gonna be to helpful with its agi-5 and its evasion-20. I think that you should have both (if you have the money) and use /equip change macro's.

Haubby vs Domaru
# Feb 13 2005 at 11:15 AM Rating: Decent
Although the haubergeon is better when it comes to accuracy, attack, STR, DEX, and overall use in combat, this AF piece would be great for when pulling if necessary. Third eye will only let you dodge 1 hit and it's almost guranteed you'll be hit more than once when running back to camp unless you got a far ranged shot, but that extra TP can really help catch up to the other DD or give your starting WS for SC a nice boost of either power or accuracy. So this thing isn't entirely useless compared to haubby, it just takes some creative thinking and a few /equip macros.

I have a simple question. Why would Square-Enix go through the trouble of designing this AF piece of no one will use it over the haubergeon?

It seems apparent that the purpose for this is to get TP faster to unleash more Weapon Skills by getting hit. Hence the Vitality and HP boosts.

Even though the Haubergeon is superior in Attack, I feel it does not suit the purpose of the Samurai, whose main goal is unleashing numerous powerful skillchains repeatedly.

This could also be used in conjunction with the Haub. Say you are lead voke for SATA onto the tank. Have a voke macro setup to swap this in for the Haub. You dont have the -EVA, and you get a better VIT and TP boost while in the prep stages. Once tank has all the hate, switch back to the Haub and start playing SAM.

I definately agree, Looking at SAM's stats and Armor, it looks like they were ment to be a back up tank, or even main tank in some circumstances. They have nice VIT, HP, Weaponskills for Hate, Enmity bonuses.. But then again, Paladin and Ninja(which wasn't even supposed to be a tank..) Are still better^^

I hate this.... I'm not even going to use this piece of AF considering Haubergeon is a dozen times better. But I need it to complete the set... lol. This has been a pain in the *** for me so far. I got the Coffer Key with a Zilart 4 party... They dropped like pancakes. We got about 8 coffer keys in a total of a few hours. Of course that wasn't the problem.. Now that I'm back in the Temple I have to get a key to open the gay Granite Doors the 2 spawn locations that don't require keys never have the coffer lying behind it.. Meh... Oh well. Hopefully I'll get this damned AF piece and a complete set of Artifact Armor for my Samurai to match my other jobs.

Holy crap was this a pain in the butt to get! It was a 75 warrior/ninja, 70 red mage/black mage, and I 58 samurai/thief (thief was just at 15 for treasure hunter-normally use warrior). The first night we got the coffer key pretty quick from the zone just outside of the Den of Racor. I died once when an Iron Maiden blew up but got a raise which was cool. However, we had a hellish time trying to find the coffer chest. We finally decided to try to use one of those Uggelepih Keys on a door in the northwest corner of the map where the coffers spawned only to notice no coffer there and we needed a prelate key. I ended up getting aggro and we escaped out of there. That was a good 8 hours the first night. The next night I decided to try to see if someone by some mericle had gotten the coffer after 2 am the last night and maybe a new coffer spawned. I got killed, zoned back to my home point (with the competition I couldn't concieve people wanting to raise me), and decided to bug my friends again. We spend anout 7 hours and 30 minutes trying to get the prelate key and the uggelepih keys since we figured the coffer didn't move. Got both keys eventually, went into the rooms, and I got my armor! Then I got aggro and died, but hell I got it anyway! :) 16 hours, 3 deaths (two of which with no raise) and a Myochin Domaru. I spent a good 5 minutes gawking at how cool it looked on me and then passed out. I'll gawk some more today.

BTW (Thank-you.) very much to two of my (linkshell) friends Plastik and Zera of the EyeofOdin for spending 16 hours and two consecutive nights with this when no one else would. I know I'd rather have every piece of body hair on my body slowly pulled out one by one than have to do this again. I just have to get the AF6 then I can take a print out of my caracter to the bar with his AF on and pick up chicks with it 'cause chicks dig AF.

(I'm sleepy.)

Well my whole experience I must say was a a costly one, but definately worth it and I thought it was funny. It all started one time when I was in a party at level 56, we were in (Cape Terrigan) and we were getting good EXP, but a pugil came along, ruined it, the PLD died and wasn't too pretty. we got him raised and everyone all set and we ran into another one (I was @110, so you can imagine I was stressing getting that EXP, being the puller and all) but apparently it was the same one, the DRK died, and so did the PLD, no EXP, they said "f*ck it" and whole pt disbanded (never know who's reading this). Well the MOMENT I get back into jeuno I see "anyone want to do (Temple of Uggalepih) coffer? Members: 60 SAM, 75 RDM." you can imagine I rushed to that pt. two seconds later a 66 BLM and 64 WHM joined us, we went to the temple, and we found the first key after like an hour (proly cause of the RDM's level). At about that point I had gained the 110 EXP and leveled to 57 (WOOT!, leveling in a coffer pt! 6 EXP per mob -_-)Well, by then, I had to go in about an hour from that point so I was getting worried. well it was time to go and no key, but the RDM said "5 more" so we killed those 5, no drop. However, she may have miscounted cause we got another and it dropped the key. Party's response: LMAO. well about 3 days later I decided to go and get the chest, not realizing that all chests were behind doors, so I foolishly went with only 3 stacks of prism powders. died a total of 4 times. wouldn't have mattered, it seems my key was still in my MH. so I gave up for about 2-3 more days and I remembered my friend (75 BLM, JP, and loves helping me out, convenient, no?), asked him and he said he was busy, so I kill some time by going to norg to get the quest for SAM AF3 when I run into some level 30s who lost their way, so I kindly guide them back to kazham and guard them while one of them kills a couple mandras for a level. By the time they finish up, my friend says he's free. so he gets a tele-yhoat and I meet him at the temple after picking up the key. so we go in and he apparently did this before cause I didn't have to tell him anything or walk in front of him, he went right to the first coffer location and doesn't aggro (also nice cause I stay invised) BOOM! the coffer was RIGHT THERE at the first location. He says "wow, you are very lucky" so I rush and open the chest, get the body, and he warps me out. moral of the story: this coffer isn't hard so long as you have a level 75 person to guide you through it. Also, even if you're a mage, bring prisms to help when you have to get invis faster than just a cast. lastly, check the 4 spawn points that don't require a key or people that can defeat temple guardian first and then just wait for someone to come by to open the guarded door after that for the next to, then try opening the other two that require keys (remember, they are ONE TIME USE which means you'll be stuck in there, thusly not being able to check the other spots. now onto SAM AF3 (btw, if you're on Ragnarok server and are like atleast 60 and want to help me, /tell Kazekun, I'm on alot)
