lmao, these weapons are so ownage in PvP. Nothing like Acc+8 and Paralysis for those pesky... wel anything to be honest. Especially when as a 66 monk i was fighting 75's and beating them due to the increased ACC bonus and paralysis. <3 Shiva's claws, sometimes damages isn't everything.
Not so bad

These claws aren't too bad. +11 dmg is nice and the +8 Accuracy is really good. I have these claws to thank for beating Maat as a mnk. The first three times I lost by only a small amount. Then I used these claws and actually paralyzed him and was able to overcome him. Just my story.

Just went to shiva with a friend duo today, Iceday, double ice weather but no problem since I'm a smn using Shiva also (shiva VS Shiva Prime).

I am a 64 PUP and looking forward in using these since I miss alot with only a C in H2H skill even with sushi, i miss a lot on xp mobs, I hope these helps. Btw, does anyone know how does the laten effect kicks in? On ice day only? or just randomly?

Thx in advance.

The additional effect will happen occasionally, but triggers far more often on iceday. Expect it to happen 1 in 2-3 hits on iceday.

It's an additional effect, not a latent effect. Additional effects are always on, they just only happen a percentage of the time. So to answer your question, it will happen occationally.
PUP can use these

In case anyone cares: I was checking Shiva's items the other day and noticed that PUP can use these. I'm gonna have to pick up a pair if I ever get to 65.

Currently i'm a lvl 67 mnk on Asura server, just wanted to say that what you use for weapons and
armor is your choice so please realize i'm not arguing with anyone just giving you my thoughts on these. I got these at lvl 65 and have used them since, i also have other H2H weapons (feral
fangs, TM hooks +1 and some others) i have tested
the difference in dmg on all the h2h i have as well as accuracy. Yes the dmg is a lil bit less 10-15 per hit for me, but i don't miss nearly as often as i do with the others. so i choose to use these with my scorp harness thats +18 acc and
sole sushi yes i still miss but i hit 90% of the
time as an elvaan mnk. it all depends on how u
set up ur equipment. DEx rings stopped usin those at lvl 36, i stick to str, att and acc gear. i compared dmg with others mnks as well some do more some do less damage, u just have to figure out how u like ur character setup. Shiva claws i will use till i get my hands on Avengers or the triple attack +1% h2h weapons (don't recall their name). Another thing to add i've noticed on iceday
add effect on IT hits maybe 5% of the time on
tough and lower mobs 50%-90% of the time on iceday
these can save u if u solo stuff a lil harder then u probably should be ^^. thats my thoughts
and experiences with these.
going to get these tonight I hope..

Well after seeing my Spartan's jump from 1.5 mil to 2.5 mil on Cerberus it's time to sell. Spectacles (+7 acc) on my server have dropped from 7 mil to 3 mil so last night I bought a pair for 2.9 mil. After selling my spartan's for around 2.5 mil the specs will end costing me about 500-600k. For the time being I'm using Tactician Magician's Hooks +1 I bought for 9k. They'll work for now :D

So now my plan is to go kill Shiva tonight (hopefully) and get the Shiva's Claws. I like the stats on it, not only the acc but the lower delay will make a difference. So adding the acc bonus from the claws my total will be +45 accuracy (without food) :-) That's a net jump of +13 acc from before. That will give me a lot more options as far as adding str if needed during combat. I'm really looking forward to trying my new setup!

Got them last night! Haven't gotten in a pt yet to try them out. I'll get one going tonight.

Quite an interesting pt. Someone was shouting in Jeuno to do it so I said what the ****. Got in pt, there was rdm, drg, blm, mnk, pld, whm. The blm and whm were 56 and 53 so I was a little worried. During the fight the whm didn't keep barblizzard up and Shiva nuked us for like 500 and for some reason the whm wasn't far enough out and got killed. I still had my 2 hour so I opened up on her and that was that. Only one death. As long as pt has strong pld and a good DD you can do it with little problems.

As a melee, its good to have alot of weapons skilled up if not capped.
As a THF, its good to have other weapons (blunt weapons such as hand-to-hand or clubs) skilled for fights involving undead when our daggers suxor.

These claws are perfect for a -free- weapon that has pretty decent stats and nice added attributes for skill up parties or for when you'll occasionally want to wear them in a "special" fight or mission.

Just got 65mnk last night. Yay! Finally got to use my Shiva Claws. I've been using Spartan Cesti since lvl 58, btw. I was fighting Prossenaries (those Crawlers in Boyahda Tree, by the black mandies and Elder Gobbues) so they were soft and squishy. The acc boost is noticeable over Cesti, but wasn't a problem anyway, since my acc is pretty nice. The damage was lower, but not by much. Speed, oh yeah, that's where it got harder to say which is better overall. Faster, more accurate weaker attacks, or slower h2h, but still fast, fairly accurate stronger attacks. Although I'm sure my party also enjoyed the Paralyze effect kicking in (incedentally, it was Iceday for most of our exp session).

Quote:
You people are forgetting one thing, claws suck against undead. I am not high enough to use Shiva Claws yet, but I do own a set of Cermet Claws+1 and the Spartan Cesti. Later on, as a mnk, you will end up in alot of undead pts, if you try to use claws you will only be gimping yourself.

Are you sure you're a monk? All hand-to-hand are blunt. It doesn't matter if it's a claw, cesti, knuckle, patas, bagnahk, hook, or barefisted. The reason why you think claws suck is because Cermet+1 are much weaker than Spartan Cesti. These are more powerful than those, and have high acc. I just wouldn't use them myself on undead because undead have low evasion. Claws only look pointy, they still feel blunt.

One pair of h2h weapons are not blunt: Vampire Claws. These rare/ex claws drop from Tres Duendes, an NM in the level 40 capped Phomiuna Aqueducts. Vampire Claws are piercing type, which means they are weak against the mobs MNKs are normally strong against (skeletons, pots, dolls, etc...), but they are strong against mobs weak to piercing, such as bats, birds, and flies.

to clear things up from my experiances mini battles are rese at midnight jp time (11est) but the prime battles can be done over if you lose our PT tried twice and lost and on the third time we won but one thing this still leaves unanswered is if you win can you redo it before midnight jp time? I do know you can restart the quest again before the reset time hopethis helps

Thats not true, you can fight the prime battles agian in under a 24hours. I fought Ifrit one night then did it again the next morning. (less then 24 hours apart) You just can't do the mini tuning fork battles more then once per 24 hours.

I heard that it's not based on a 24 hour time period and that you can do the avatar again after midnight in Japan. I can't prove this yet as my lvl isn't high enough for the avatar battles yet, but you might want to look into it.

Most things (avatar fights, fishing limit, etc) are reset after JP Midnight (11am EST).
You can get another fork at JP Midnight to fight the avatar again.

Claw stats
# Sep 08 2004 at 5:38 PM Rating: Default
These claws are perfect for an elvaan monk. Just equip 2 SRT rings, you wont need DEX rings that much cause the acc bonus is +8 which is AWESOME. Plus the low delay is always nice, in fact the DoT would probably be better than the Spartan Cesti. These claws are also free once you kill shiva, who you can kill multiple times-as wheatpuff said, while the Cesti run about 500k on my server. Also, do the Spartan Cesti Inflict Paralysis? Uh huh, go with these if you're elvaan.

Vampiric Claws are not strong against slimes. They are strong against mobs that are weak to piercing weapons (bird, bats, flies, etc...), because they are piercing rather than blunt like all other h2h weapons. Slimes are strong to all melee damage. :P

I'm an elvaan monk, and i'll tell you now, +8 accuracy isn't what its all cracked up to be, I had +17 ACC, and +10 DEX, still missed like ****, if you use these as an elvaan monk, keep using them dex rings, you'll need em.

But if you had these claws later on it'd be 17+8=25 Accuracy Bonus. So +8 is a lot IMO and maybe just enough.

Meh, so much misinformation here.

1) To get the claws you do not need to kill Shiva twice, you can get them on the first time if that is what you choose.

2) You can kill Shiva as many times as you want, just no more than once per RL day. So no, you are not giving up the ability to get the avatar if you pick the claws - but you can only get one reward per completion.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 23 2004 at 3:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you can do the quest 3 times, each time you can choose a different item

You can do the Shiva Summon Quest once, and opt for the claws instead of the avatar flag. You get to choose

You don't HAVE to get the summon, it just makes sense if you ever want to be a summoner.
