I have level 18 skill in bonecrafting and I have confirmed this, but I have also used this formula and gotten a Giant Femur, instead of a Turtle Shell.
I believe it is Beetle shell or turtle shell, Giant femur and something else that you get from these..

I left FFXI. 300 days of playtime. Tired of it, partly. Sometimes all it takes is one person to ruin something for you. Basically, Hellich is a bastard. If you see him on Leviathan, stay away. If you MUST deal with him, then don't believe a word of the poison that spills from his mouth. It's all deceit.
This is a beastmen made item, but listing in armour, as you can wear it. There is no way to synth this item, only what you can get when you Desynth this item.
is there any way to complete this one as a theif or do i have to switch my job class and level up to carry the sheild? if theres a way to finish it othewise i'd like to know
Good way to make a little extra cash as a newbie is to check the AH. Some people are often selling them for around 50 gil or less, when you can vendor them for 110. I made about 500 Gil from this on my first day by buying from the AH and then selling to vendor.
Yeah, I have a friend who has max fame and does this, too.
I really like getting the Shell Shields and then trading them at the outpost for more CP. Yeah, the stores buy them but I'm thinking CP will be worth more than gil (in the end).
As for the AH, the price is all over the place. Sometimes they are 10 gil and other times 500.

You will need a job (War/Rdm/Pld/Bst/Sam) at level 7 to be able to complete this quest.
