Whell then i could be a GM since i live in Cali, speak fluent English and German,(just need to learn Japanese),and i know how to spell, lol:) ....Oh wait no... ..Now i need a degree in something... ^^
ive seen the blood red helm that the npc had at the end of the xbox360 beta test i just wondered if gm's wear that... theres no other helms that are that shape that i've seen of i'd love one like that
if your a GM its not about doing things u like...its about doing what your told. I mean sure they will fight to save a whole area of people in certain situations, like in the crawlers nest a person trained THE WHOLE nest to the entrance and no one could go in or out without being killed. thus making the game that they paid for somewhat unplayable. the GM came and cleared up the situation. no one saw who trained them all..just the train....mustve been a level 75 THf with flee because even 2 RDM75 and a BLM 7 couldnt hanle all of these guys...
anyways thats my GM experience. the armour is mostly for show but if indeed they need to take care of something it works. nd the sword will one shot most anything, even tho the delay is 999.
Er... For any 75 all mobs in crawlers nest are Too Weak... I doubt that all the mobs in crawlers nest could take down 3 75s. Due to despawn rates that would be pretty much impossible. I don't think you're telling the truth.

Okay...This is what I know (it's pretty much all of it) about GM's. Oh, and for your reference I got this straight from a GM that I was talking to because I needed to report someone and I had some questions <(ˆ_ˆ)>.
Okay, if a GM levels from 1 to 2 on their GM character they will lose their job. They are not to get distracted from their duties. The job is a real pain because most of the time you are just answering GM calls. They do get to choose their starting job and yes they get excellent armor. The only time they can kill something (which has happened to me) is only in an emergency when someone is training monsters to the zone (say a level 75 bst trains lvl 15 spiders on a level 10 party, then sometimes they come). This I have only seen once when I was in a party and the leader called a GM because someone was training monsters on pourpuse. Secondly, GM's are our friends, they are just trying to preserve the game and make it fullest to the effect, don't make fun of them or loudmouth because that's not very respectful of the people that make this game fun. If you are trying to get a job with Square Enix then I would suggest being able to speak fluent English and Japanese and probably have a college degree in computers or something electronical. I wouldn't suggest getting a job in customer service because all you do is either answer GM calls or answer the phone for the people calling in with Play Online Viewer troubles. If you want to like really play the game one choice is to go into the testing side. Here you get to test the game for glitches and malfunctions(but if you find a glitch you have to spend the time to fix it). GM's tested Chains of Promathia about 8-12 months before it came out(after they finished making it). They are probably doing that right now with the 3rd expansion pack(if the rumors are true). Well that just about sums up on what I know about GM's
Just one thing. THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE Use punctuation, and learn to spell. It will make reading much easier, and you will be able to comprehend the info.
ok here the info about gm they do play the game but they have to report who they are and play on a diffrent server then they work on they are allowedto attack other players they walk among us but its like when u use invisable and a mob cant see u thats how it is for us they are the admins they can do anything and they work for get this NOT SONY but SE squer they own the game run the server everyting sony has nbothing to do with it rmember its on pc too and soon to be xbox so y the hell would sony be incharge of it if its on diffrent syustems? they can kill mobs if there is a glich iv seen it happed i got arog in w sabutra by a yag mind u i was lvl 30 rdm at the time and i was not able to hit it it killed me and none was able to kill it a gm walked out of nowhere a killed it lots of u are just making up crap acting liek u know i have read up on gm and what it takes to be one i live in cali and will try to be a gm sadly i cant on my server gm are like gods in the game the can do anything and before they kill a player or a mob they have to have permison form the higher ups they cant do what they want they have rules and regulations to follow the moniter the proram and keep a eye open for gliches think of them like beta testers also as well as admins they dont sit around and play they are doing a job so we can enjoy the game the need permison to act on anything if they brake the rules they can get FIRED lots of bull on here hope this end alot of stupid rumers like lazer eyes and lightning coming out of there asses sorry i just got sick of the stupid crap ppl say oh btw sony does own everquest even the pc version so to call a admin there is sony a gb is se what ever everquest calles them is sony k got it rate me down if u want its the truth and i know alot of u dont like the truth but it must be told to shut up thel lires and the misinformed
For those of you who found this post difficult to read, please scroll down to the post by AstinusLorac. Not only is it well written and informative, but also uses this little thing we all learned to use in First grade... the period.
Game Masters are Customer Service Reps working in a cubicle for Square-Enix (not Sony, or anyone else)
The Judge Armor/Weapon set is to make them easy to notice. There is no mistaking a GM in game if you see one. The combination of blood-red armor and the heat-wave effect makes sure you know who they are, even if you play with /names off.
They do not 'play', they're working at a job. Yes, a GM can theoretically do anything: equip any armor, change their levels, have all jobs, change into any object model, force a mob to spawn, use any magic spell/ability in the game, etc. etc. etc.
But, if they value their job, they stick to work. Things they do for their job is: -Teleport to any location (certainly no chocobo rides) -Force move a player to any location (stuck?) -Force kill mob (I haven't heard of this happening in a long time, but it's possible for the server to misspawn a mob where it shouldn't.) -Invisible (In a perfect world, you'll never see them.) -Invulnerable (If a GM is walking visible in world, they're not going to get aggro. Period.) -Various Other Things
GM's do not use the same game client we do. They're not sitting around using a commercial version of the game. They have a special client made specificly for their job. People who claim to have seen GM's do ______ and _____, etc etc are just blowing smoke. GM's are at work, they're monitored by their managers - it's work, plain and simple. There is no getting paid to play. Sure, they play the game at home I'm sure, on characters and accounts far removed from their work account.
In fact, a while ago a GM was fired for using his GMness for perks on his home account. He was fired and his personal accounts were deleted.
In conclusion, Final Fantasy XI GM's are employees making a living as customer service reps. Their in-game armor is explicitly used only to denote they are in fact GM's. Anyone claiming to have seen a GM attack, killed, etc. is lying. I would never accept as truth anything claiming this unless they had proof.
They're customer service, rarely is that a fun job. It's mostly thankless work.
--Edited to add There is no armor set for any race other than humes. A GM's official body is always hume.
One slight correction considering GM's attacking MOBs. On occasion (normaly in new ares) there is a glitch in the mobs program. On these occasions, the GM's have to kill the mob so they spawn with the correct program (once fixed of course). Now, as far as just killing a mob for no reason, I'm pretty sure they wont.
Also, adding on to what Astinus said, GMs are not allowed to have characters on the same world as the one they work on, so as to prevent cheating for GMs.
I think i saw a GM before once, when i fell down in between the planks at kazham and was running around under the platforms. Kinda reminded me of the Black Knight from Monty Python ^^;
1. SOE = Sony Online Entertainment... SE = Square-Enix They are two different companies...
Quote:
Yes. A "GM" is a Game Master" and they are employees of Sony.Basically ,they get paid to play FFXI and help others out with certain in-game problems..like lost items and stuff. How to become a GM is apply at station.sony.com..you can find employment opportunities there. And I'd love to be a GM!!
I would suggest not posting when you don't know wtf you're saying. You become a GM if you live in Tokyo, and maybe California. Go to the playonline japanese site, translate, and go to the GM page. You have to work in headquarters.
Also, SOE's GM's aren't called GM's, they're called CSR's. They too, must work in headquarters, in California, ONLY.
2. GM's don't attack anything...
They probably aren't alloud to. And mobs won't attack them. They are also not alloud to 'help newbs escape from mobs'.. Them attacking anything would disrupt a player's payed-for environment.
are you guys ******* retarded? SOE (sony online entertainment has NOTHING TO DO with FFXI or square-enix THEY ARE NOT NOR HAVE EVER BEEN AFFILIATED. jesus christ
If this armour owns then, why do my friends in my Linkshell see GM's die when they fight MOBs? then the GM is bored and is just out to play around and mess with people
I think some people got GMs mixed up with Mentors...

heh I wanna be a Gm now, i wonder if you have to be part of the FFXI staff, or ur character is made a GM.......I've never seen a GM in person being a GM would be okay expept for all the people complaining
I think that listening to "people complaining" is what they do between log in and log off. From reading all the posts on here, I have learned that not all of you can read, so I'm not going to go into detail about how GMs aren't payed to log on and have a swell time.
