Bought this today on Alexander Server for 180k, this things works wonders when pulling of a sneak attack spinning slash not to mention it looks awesome.

I put my hands forward, i love this sword, it looks so nice, has wonderful stats like dispel (sometimes) and a kickass +5 acc and +15 atk.. but it's worth buying it or i have to stick w Zweihander till 73 (Balin's sword)?

Got one today for 1.5million on Siren. Price has been dropping for a while now. It's a great weapon, and for that price, it seems very nice, though I've yet to test it in EXP. It'll probably get a good workout in Dynamis tonight though :)

Well I saw this GS when I was in the mid 60s and said my god its unbelieveable...well after the Xmas gil bash on Rag...it went from 4 to 7m like that..so here i am at 70 and looking at the gear ill need in the future and decided to pass this for the Nagan >< Beautiful G sword tho
This is the Sword to Have if you're a Galka or Elvaan DRK, just the Accurracy Bonus and Attack Bonus alone rock hardcore. Only prob I have with this GS is sometimes I can attract a little much attention from Mobs!!! The Damage that you can do with this thing is wicked, not to mention the occasional Dispel is welcome! ~.^

I saw 1 of these for sale when I was level 69. And I fell in love with this sword. Last bid was 10 million gil though. So, on my run to level 70 I did the following in the last 4 days.
I went to the mines and mined up a lot of Darksteel Ore (80k) while I was looking for party.
Voodoolord had a team of BLM's to do ODS KSNM. So I mined about 2 million gil in a few days and got about 3 million from the ODS. I let someone make me a Darksteel Scythe and ditched my Vassago's Sythe for a mere 5.5 million gil. Total amount of gil on the moment I hit 70: 11 million gil!
Went to the AH and yes Balmung was still there, started my bid on 9 million and ended up on 10 million!
I'm so incredibly happy with this sword!!!! I love the new toy! ^_^
And to make my day even more. I still wore a Haubergeon. I wanted to switch to the Hauberk and shouted for a trade. Duras (Machina) sent me a tell that he could turn my Hauby into a Hauberk. After he convinced me the risk was pretty low (100+3 smithing skill) I accepted his offer and he made me a Hauberk succesfully.
Altogether!? A day to remember!

Dispel lands quite often if u had the sword maybe you would know.... 5 Acc is a big deal even a high DRK as me. LOOK AT THE DMG you dumb ass thats y its so good. Also every piece of this sword gives it a + except the 5% hp. dam people who can't afford it or can't have a HNM LS and kill Fafnir always will say somthig negitive. Get the sword and try it out. If you already had it and dislike it, I would tell you that you are the Worst DRK ever.

I eplained it in plain math, didn't even use algebra , but i forgot about the thick concentration on H.S. non-grads that play. The dispel lands how often? 1/30 attacks? Hmmmm.. I guess i see your point there... and the attack bonus get's you a whole 3.3 extra damage on IT probably 6.6 on EM and 9.9 on easy and 5 acc is actually about 1/22 of the possible acc a level 73 drk would or should have... damn i'm using math again. I'm sorry i know i lost you, i can smell the burning rubber.

umm..... ya. Since this weap has +5 acc it frees up other spots that u might use for acc that can now be used for str or atk.

sorry for off topic but, Wow dude do you not like getting along with ppl. Even if this is just a trophy why get all upset and start calling ppl stupid. We get it you don't think its worth it. Hell i don't even care about this sword my drk is lvl 1 (main MNK74) but your harsh words forced my hand to tell you to calm down and shut up....its a game, moreso its a forum. Wow u must really be new to this sword. Look at the DMG also the Acc and Dispel. This sword is elite sword for every DRK untill 73. Just put it like this
1 sniper Ring + 1 redmage+ DRK DMG GS+ Bomb core
all in 1 Sword.

i have to get into this! This debate desperately needs a mathematician's outlook. The attack bonus is nothing to get happy about one bit. Let's say you're an Elvaan Drk and you're lvl 70 with GS capped you should have 400 attack with standard exp gear. 13/400 is 30. in otherwords, it is 1/30 th of your current attack power. Hypothetically at level 70 against an IT mob you should be dealing around 100 dmg each attack. 100/30 is 3.3 damage.. there's you bonus guys! you're getting excited over a WOPPING 3.3 dmg. nice sword indeed!

Attack makes difference on swings but not on WS much. WS is mostly based on STR. Attack would only bring u up a little on normal hits.

Ok STR and ATTCK are the same but also Different.
STR raise your DMG cap where as ATTACK it caps out lower. For example
FUll buff with 300 TP and balmung SATA spinning slash you could do 1200 DAM.
and then you get 300 tp again full buff SAtA spinning slash for 1200 again. thas because your STR is caped at the DMG u put.
With BALIN 300 TP full buff SATA spinning slash for 1400-1600.
and if you do it again for 300 TP it might be
more because your STR makes it cap higeher.
thats why post 70 you need Equip macros when your ready for SC you switch to all your STR gear like RUBY rings , warewolf belt, AF helm ect ect Because SATA is a 100% hit u don't need the ACC. So you can hit alot harder for SC. Not to mention Light SC is based off INT and STR.

Ive heard so far that balins will have the overall higher damage per hit. Plus stronger ws's. Becuase it has higher base dmg and it has the str+ but what about the atk +13 on balmung, wouldnt that make a difference?

ok, having higher stats like str + would make the ws dmg higher, I understand that. But by having attack +13 would that make your dmg per hit stronger?

From what I understand, most WS'es are based on base stats (e.g. STR, CHR, MND etc.) than ATK. Higher ATK has no effect on WS dmg, so no, the +13 atk would not make a difference.

This Sword would be cool to use on high evasion mobs but surely Balin Sword is a damn good sword to and will prolly use it more then the Balmung.

And yeah u could but +5 Acc can not replace Sushi , U would still hit less , although in some fights i have used Dragon / Bison Steak i tend to switch food accordingly to the mob.

I see what you're saying, but i am inclined to disagree. Y'see, if you use Balmung, you can substitute Bison Steak for Sushi, and therefore have a lot of acc+ and a lot of atk+. This combo would make you "teh sheet".

DRK only get 3 exclusive GS, but this is by far the best non-relic GS in the game. Kinda makes up for the lack of DRK-only GS, but I still wish DRK had more GS to chose from. At least SE should make all those PLD-only GS DRK/PLD.
Balmung was crafted by Wayland the Smith, the Norse god of Smiths. Odin took the sword and drove it into the Branstock Oak, and declared that whoever could draw the sword was destined to win in battles. The princes of the Volsung all tried to draw it, and the youngest prince (and last to draw, of course) Sigmund drew the sword. He was defeated by treachery, and the sword broke. His pregnant wife took the pieces and fled from their enemeies, then died by a lake. Her son was raised by Regin, the brother of Fafnir, and go to the Fafnir page to read that part of the story.
