The price of the actual staff is much lower than the materials because the supply of NQ staves is too high, a lot of woodworkers try to HQ them. The same thing happens with hawker's knife +1 on Midgardsormr. The dragon blood needed to craft one costs 300k+ and the NQ knife is only 60k whereas the HQ knife is 3 million.
Basically, if you don't HQ, you lose a lot of gil.
On Asura server (no surprise I guess) this item is worth up to 440k in jeuno on some days (greedy sellers), meanwhile, the Ice Staff sells for 220k. I am levelling Goldsmithing while my friend is levelling his Woodworking in order to make the Staffs. Seems like my friend is gonna be in for some reading on how to grow the Ore, since obviously buying it will lose alot of gil. Anyone else noticing these odd price variances on their servers, or once again, is it just Asura's horrible economy.

I know exactly how you mean... On garuda server in about... september of last year I think, the price of these jumped dramatically. went from being something like 50k-150k per bead (with like, 10k for a NQ staff) to now the lowest price on beads being 400k, and the highest 900k. *NQ staves are about... 50-150k) It seemed to happen overnight too. So I'm not sure if I just wasn't paying attention, or if someone just took ten of them and sold them to a mule at the price they wanted to move it to. I was rather suspicious when I saw the price history on each of them was the same person, all sold in the same day and general time period... Well, the point of all this, is that if you went into woodworking planning on making money on the element staves through these beads, (like I did) then you now have no chance of getting there. Maybe if you had 100 woodworking, and all the additions... but then you still aren't getting the high percentage of HQ you would get with something like 51 skill over the synth.
