Vulcan's Staff > Flare

This staff makes Flare one burly spell. For me, currently @ lvl 60 BLM, Flare averages 1100 dmg w/o it , and with it is couple damage short of 1300. The +15% Fire dmg is not something to be overlooked. If you want to impress your friends, catch a little Mandy outside Windy with a Flare w/ this equipped ^^

Additional effect: fire damage means it inflicts damage of fire when you hit a mob during mele not magix casting. However, it will make fire based spells stronger when you cast because of the element of the staff.

Just an fyi.

Have fun and good luck.

Goldsmithing sub level?

Anyone know what level goldsmithing you have to be to craft these staves with a moderate success rate of HQ? I don't wanna take goldsmithing to 60 if I don't have to.

No goldsmithing skill is needed for this recipe. If you wanted to make the bead for this recipe however, you would need mid 80 goldsmithing.

this is to all the carpenters out there. I know that the crystal used is Wind, so to get a HQ it is best to try on Iceday. My question is for these staffs, I wonder if iceday is really the best option if you consider bead type. For example the vulcan's staff, since the bead is Fire, would it be best to try synthing on Water's day or stick with Iceday.
worthless?! I don't think so...

but it does have 2 additional hidden effects for summoners:

effect 1: Ifrit perpetuation -~5 (costs 1mp/tic at lv 42)

effect 2: Shiva perpetuation +~5, but also gives shiva + 20% improvement in all skills ^^

NQ version has similar effects, but on a smaller scale.

how did you equip this at lvl 42?

I was Wondering When it says Perpetuation-3 does that mean 3lessMp used/tic? Also, lets say i have this staff at level 51 when ifrit cost 1Mp/tick, does that mean i get a regan effect of MP+2, or am i just a dreamer?

This is wrong... The HQ staves give -3(or +3 to the weaker element), not -5/+5. The NQs give -2/+2, of course.

And I've never heard of them giving the weaker avatar a boost... That seems like a ridiculous rumor to me :/.

Add Effects

I find items with:
Additional Effects
are hardly worth the time, if you are basing a decision solely on the additional effect.
More often than not if ever does the additional effect actually work.

It also has an increase in the hidden effects. Fire staff gives a 10% bonus to fire spells, this one gives a 15% bonus to fire spells dmg. There is also a increase in the hidden effect for smns but that I am not sure of.
RE: Add Effects

I highly doubt that it does added damage, and as a 75 SMN, I can't say that I've seen an increase in Shiva's skills. This may just be a rumor that sounds good enough to be true.
I have tested this theory with Pluto's Staff and Aquilo's Staff using Aspir on Scarab Beetles:
Test 1:
Wind's Day: vs. Too Weak
Aquilo's Staff: 85 MP Aspir
Pluto's Staff: 23 MP Aspir

Test 2:
Lightning's Day: Vs. Too Weak
Aquilo's Staff: 43 MP Aspir
Pluto's Staff: 16 MP Aspir

Test 3:
Fire's Day: Vs. Too Weak
Pluto's Staff: 50 MP Aspir
Aquilo's Staff: 83 MP Aspir

Test 4:
Water's Day: Vs. Too Weak
Pluto's Staff: 34 MP Aspir
Aquilo's Staff: 67 MP Aspir

As shown, I preformed 4 tests in which, not once, has the Pluto's Staff (Dark Staff +1) beaten out the Aquilo's Staff (Ice Staff +1) for MP on Aspir. I also tried this with spells such as Blizzard, Thunder, Fire, and Aero, which proved similar results.
Hence, I do not believe in this "Hidden Effects."

Yes these tests were done Naked (No equipment besides staves) at Capped Dark Magic Skill (168)

ok there are many things you did incorrectly with your test here...

1. Do not test elemental staffs with ASPIR AND DRAIN

2. Do not test elemental staffs on Too Weak monsters...

3. If you want real results... parse this using one spell repeatedly over a long period of time on Incredibly tough monsters.

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 19 2005 at 12:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Vulcan / Fire Staff would effect Fire based spells and the avatar perpetuation of Ifrit..... Pluto/ Dark Staff works on dark based spells...aspir, drain, bio2, sleep 1/2 sleepga...etc. Ice / Aquilo (sp) is Ice based, so would help with Ice spells, and Shiva's perpetuation.......

Did u test on the same mob, because if you did whichever staff u did first mighta taken most of the MP there fore no MP to get with the 2nd one
RE: Add Effects
# Jan 19 2005 at 12:56 AM Rating: Good
Aspir and Drain are a bad thing to test since their largely known for their lack of consistancy
