Faffy's guide advocates this polearm. Therefore use it!
Apparantly it can last you till 75.
The TP return is beautiful, as is the weaponskill damage output.
HP MP +10 isn't amazing, but it definitely helps solo artists.
You're getting a +12 DMG jump from GKL. Do it.

No reason not to grab this. It isn't particularly difficult if you can get a small elite party out there.



I got mine today, with a party setup of NIN NIN BLM WHM RDM
Wasn't too difficult, although auto-regen proved bothersome.

Finally got this lance lastnight. Doesn't really serve a purpose for me now, but I guess it is more a trophy lance. One more lance to add to my collection. lol

Yeah sure, samurai's used spears and bows but if you look into military history, there were units called dragoons who weilded guns they rode on horses but fought on foot.

Tanking this beast is unlike anything else you will have to tank as ninja. Each hit will take off 2-3 shadows because of constant double/triple attack(so you might as well use haub lol). He does, however, have very very low delay. 1 Ninja can tank this easily. All you have to do is stick Hojo: Ni and elegy on it.. As long as you have 2 shadows up at all times you should be safe. This means actually WASTING the last shadow if you have it. Recast utsusemi either Ichi or Ni (depending on what timer is ready) in the the gap between his swings. Even if you are pretty late in casting, you can still get off Ichi before he strikes again. Yes his delay is THAT low. If you try to tank this like a normal mob, you will die.

ENSURE YOUR TANK BRINGS ECHO DROPS. As soon as Vouivre does radiant breath, the first thing your mages need to do is spam your ninja with cure, the ninja must use echo drop and make sure his shadows are up because Vouivre's special attacks will interupt the attack flow. So if you're unlucky, he might attack again straight away. Do not panic. Simply, wait until he finishes attacking and put up shadows. The mage's spam cure should keep you alive til then. As soon as you are cured sufficiently, your mages must erase your slow.

As 75NIN the thing hit me for 50-200damage. The radiant breath would take up to 900damage off me. The breath attack is the hardest part of the fight so the tank must bring echo drops. Apart from the breath attack, you shouldn't get hit often.

Your biggest threats to winning this battle are:

1) Bomb agro or otherwise

2) Mages not resting enough (Infact I would recommend your mages rest the whole time as long as your tank is full, and get up IMMEDIATELY as soon as it uses radiant breath)

3) Using a PLD tank. NIN gets hit so few times on this battle... it would be suicide to use a PLD tank. Even a WAR/NIN could out-tank PLD on this, but you really should consider getting a NIN

i was lucky enough to get this. we fought for 15-20 min with 7-8 people. 75 mnk, 75 sam pretty much skillchained it to death mages all healed. we had 2 70+ rdm with us that tanked all their mp by the end. i was healing quite a bit as drg/whm also as well. but it dropped was a glorious site. thank you muttonchop ls :) was a nice surprise. i was unaware that this dropped from the NM at the time. i am very happy that it did drop though i will use it a friggin lot.

Its too bad this lance is somewhat obsolete with the release of the Orichalcum/Triton's Lance. It was such a fun fight, with a suitable trophy reward.

just got this yesterday. First time we wiped thne we brought in some whm and some other DD and pwned Voi good :) many thanks to FinestinSeraph and everyone else who helped

What you need to kill this Wyvren.

NIN, RDM, WHM, BLM, BRD, DRG. thats it.
NIN tanks facing away from mages. RDM casts Poison + Bio BLM nukes MILDLY, BRD uses the slow song on Vouivre and Evasion song on NIN, DRG uses Ancient Circle every 10 mins. however.
This is a risky pt but u can do it, he regens hp quickly so with this set up fight could last you 2 hours leaving u very vaunerable to bomb aggro. i would very much so recomend you taking a BST that can charm a lizard to fight and lure the bombs away. but a better party for all of this would be.

NIN BLM BLM RDM BRD WHM BRD RNG RNG THF DRG SMN SMN.
this pt would be for a simple "hey lets go kill Vouivre in 3 min pt."
NIN tanks facing away from mages. BLM's Nuke. RDM enfeebles MUST KEEP SILENCE on vouivre, 1st BRD uses MP song on mages and Evasion songs on NIN, WHM heals and try keeping a flash on it once in a while, 2nd brd in 2nd party uses Attack +songs or acc i prefer attack RNG's be RNG's and make new holes in places, THF SATA their ws and keep hate on tank. DRG wheeling Thrust is best and Ancient Circle works great here *equip drachen brais* SMN's summon fenrir and attack with him Wyvrens weak vs darkness so vouivre will be doing about 1,000++ dmg on him.

Best place to fight vouivre would be infront of where the raptor is for mages and near the bottom for the melee.

Uses Radiant Breath, Silences + does massive dmg some times to tank and anyone infront of him, Dispeling Wind removes 1 buff, Ex: Protect IV
Loud Shriek or sumthing, Paralyzaga, Deadly Dive Physical melee attack does some dmg on 1 person.

keep Poison and Bio on him, to counter his Regen effect. he has alot of hp.

This is the tactic for the win. However you can do it with less then this. getting to his camp is ez as well.

Lance is 100% drop

Got this about 3 weeks ago on Siren server. 2 weeks before I actually got it, we made an attempt. We took a full alliance (18) through the hell of Ifrits Cauldron. This would have been fine, but we took the long way to the camp by mistake and suffered many deaths along the way to bombs. By the time we reached camp, we had lost 5 or so ppl due to various reasons, so we were down to about 2 parties. So, we start killing hurricane wyverns since he's not up. We do this for about 3 hours, while more party members leave. Finally, he pops 5 mins before we were gonna warp out. So, we pull him with 9 ppl. Since myself and another DRG with us were subbing mage, we were able to keep our PLD healthy and held our ground. The problem was that we had no high lv DD and couldnt get his HP to drop, then a bomb aggroed and killed most of us.

A time after this attempt, we got enough ppl to go at it again. This time we took the safest and shortest route, and he was waiting for us when we got to camp. So we pull it with 18 ppl and easily get him to about 5% HP, that's when.... one of our ppl accidentally called for help. We had had a bomb add and the person tried to get help on it, but got Vouivre on call for help as well. So, we all disengaged and let it kill us, so it'd go back to yellow. We all got R2 and R3 from kind passerbys and proceeded to pwn him. Many thanks to the MOONGLOW ls for all their help and sacrifice ^^.

Ok to further the history lesson. This was the spear given to Cuchulain by Skatha. A woman warrior who lived in a land of shadows.

To get to Skatha, Chuchulain had to Jump a great distance across a bridge. (Nice lil tie in with DRG here). After training with Skatha, she taught him how to use the Gae Bolg by throwing it with his FOOT.
Gae Bolg translates to "Belly Spear" and when it struck its target it would fill every crack of an enemies body with barbs.

lol, oops, I just saw the delay on Gae Bolg. Guess that kinda evens it out, but I guess it'd still be nice with haste on.

Lv 54 drg here. Actually not all lances are Drg only. There are several that can be used by pld/war/sam as well. But, the attack on these lances is much lower than the drg only lances. I'd love to have Gae Bolg, since it's attack is much higher than most drg lances for the next several levels.

It took 2 Parties of lvl 70+ to kill the NM and the polearm is only for Dragoons.

MP+10...not great but decent I guess for drg/whms or /drks who want to use MP; I have yet to have my chance to face the S.O.B. but one day...

its freaking DRAGOON ONLY!
ive done a pile load or research for my drg because its going to my my main job for everything that ill do.

where do you people come up thinking this Polearm is SAM only? I'll try to get a screenshot of the item description the next time I see my DRG friend.

It Is a DRG ONLY weapon stop debating whether it is or not.

It is Dragoon only, i have eximined i lvl 71 dragoon with it and says DRG and no SAM...so its dragoon only polearm

Does the delay justify the damage?
