Does anybody know if an alchemist signs the cursed mail and then puts it through abjuration process, if the sig transfers or is it lost due to it being a new piece of equipment?

Edit:
Nevermind...just found the answer on the cursed mail thread :P

Is it worth it for RDM?
# Sep 08 2006 at 11:24 AM Rating: Decent
Having Crimson Feet Hands and Legs, this Body certainly would give me a more complete feeling, but without an HNMLS (Sky only), the chances of getting it seem very slim.
As an elvaan RDM, MP is always a bonus, so this piece would be nice for converting, but the cost and time efficiency doesn't seem to make it much better than Errant Body. When in parties the negative melee stats from Errant rarely come into play, plus the Errant is needed for /healing MP.
It's usefulness seems to come into play more for a RDM kite that might be taking hits, but for meleeing and kiting purposes AF1 seems more than sufficient with the spell interruption decrease and enfeebling skill. Other than having a rare piece of good looking armor, I don't see a dramatic advantage to using this over AF1, Errant, and SH.
Maybe I'm simply rationalizing the impossibile odds of me obtaining this, but I'm still interested to hear from other RDMS when they use this and if my rationale is valid.

They fixed this a long *** time ago in a previous patch. A DRG wearing crimson cannot intimidate himself. This also applies to PLDs with Hrotti or other Dragon killer pieces.

Correct me if I'm wrong (which someone will probably think I am) but wouldn't this be a good set of armor for a Dragoon that is subbing a mage job? with the MP, INT and MND bonuses I would imagine that would make this set pretty solid for a DRG.

but what do I know... I'm only a 31 DRK that one day wants to be a high lvl DRG

When you go drg/mage your wyvern does the healing. I don't think you can intimidate yourself either, I have yet for it to happen when wearing crimson boots.

agreed, you cannot intimidate YOURSELF while wearing this gear. Just because your job is DRAGOON doesn't mean any DRAGON RELATED ENFEEBS will effect you, you are not a dragon, and your wyvern is a wyvern. Breath DAMAGE will be reduced on yourself but your dragon heals you, not hurts you. THis armor will in no way shape or form intimidate you OR your wyvern, neither will any other set of armor.

Theres one drawback with every piece of crimson armor. It "makes" you into a dragon (check the ingrediant list for every crimson piece, they include dragon blood and revival root).

Any mob/player that has Dragon Killer can intimidate people wearing this. I've been intimidated when trying to cure DRGs when wearing this and couldn't cast the spell, also DRG mobs will intimidate you.

Wyrm means dragon
# Mar 16 2005 at 6:31 PM Rating: Default
based on everything about this armour it should be for drgs, you need a wyrmal abjurition that you get from fighting a dragon, its made from dragon mail, looks like dragon mail, and if you read the discription of cursed mail its even made out of "rock-hard wyvern scales". now can anyone please tell me why this armour is best suited for a rdm? shouldnt the stats on this benefit drgs the most? or im i just a crazy drg whos jealous because we take it up the *** when it comes to every piece of equipment in this game. the NPC thats wearing this is named Excenmille, and is most likely a drg as he has a lance equipped, good thing he has +10 INT now rather then Acc or Attck, or something that would help me out just a little more in anyway.
Koenig and adaman make plds and drks near godly, but this stuff does nothing for drgs, yay for 40 mp while soloing, to bad i wont be soloing any dragons soon. thanks SE youve officially proven to me that drg was a cheap afterthought of a job you added at the last moment without really thinking of how to design it properly, i apreciate that.

it's great for red mage because it gives +10 mnd and +10 int, helps alot with sticking the enfeebs. also good for kiting various things, and looks damn cool. and that's without mentioning the mp and hp bonuses, which are great for red mage, which has the smallest mp pool of any mage job, maybe blue mage has less...but i cant honestly verify that because i've never compared them fully. this would also be really damned good for paladins that are tanking Apocolyptic Beast in Dynamis, even though the breath damage reduction would probably still leave them dead if he uses his breath weapon on them...anyway, that's just my 2 gil, rate me as you see fit...now i'm off to go raise some gil to buy a Cursed Mail for my red mage...(i know i cant equip it or purify it yet, but there's no law against buying ahead of time incase the price suddenly sky rockets when i CAN equip/purify it, so don't yell at me about wasting gil...cause i already had my Red Cape +1 at lvl 21 >.>)

crim·son(krmzn)
n. A deep to vivid purplish red to vivid red.

Crimson is the color red by definition. Thus it's quite reasonable for it to be geared towards rdm.

This gear might also be good for drg/whm or drg/rdm.

pathetic coincidence. it could have easily been dragon scalemale or any other name for that matter. not everything red is geard to red mage or even things with the word red or any other variations.

if you would notice the +1 version, its called blood XX

the very fact that it reduced breath damage suggests that it could be useful while fighting dragons....

Did you really feel it necessary to post such a useless rant? Just because it's based on dragons doesn't mean it should be amazingly powerful for DRGs. To think that SE just made DRG as a filler job is nonsense. If you don't like the job, stop playing it.

Edited for grammar/spelling. ^^

You guys get the Hecatomb set. That's kickass for WS or anyone dealing damage. The body piece alone adds +12 STR and +10 accuracy. You can use the Crimson set, too, but it won't do you much good. No use beating on SE for not giving you what you want.

Personally I find that this armor would benefit RDM/PLD more than DRG. First off, theres better equipment to equip on body for a DRG than this, Maybe if you are playing solo DRG/WHM this would be great, but in a pt situation there's better things. RDM would like this for the nice +40 MP, +10 MND, and +10 INT boost. PLD's for the extra MND, HP, MP, and the -breath when fighting Wyrms/Dragons.

Just so everyone knows, the -damage to bretah attacks doesn't only apply to Wryms/Dragons, there are a handfull of other mobs in the game that also use a "Breath attack". Just a piece of info for thos that think it only applys when fighting dragons. peace

I've had my crimsom mail for a while now. All the pieces of body armor are good in relation to what you're doing. Obviously for enfeeble, use AF1, for stuff like Magic Bursting, use crimson scale. I have the af2 body as well, and the only things I use them for are support spells (haste, refresh) and as a solo body piece (speeds up casting time slightly and decreases recast time by 2 seconds.)

While I don't have full crimson (missing the mask,) here's a picture of me with 4/5 pieces, along with other pictures of my equipment

Part Dragon
# Feb 16 2005 at 1:16 PM Rating: Decent
Im not sure if its been said but the Crimson/Blood set actually makes the wearer part Dragon. Its funny to see as a play around with my RDM friend and he tries to heal me...."Lightslayr was intimidated by Nephtas's presance." (man my spelling is off today)he's a 75RDM....just some information i thought that might be helpful.

Apparently all the crimson pieces do this, but you're right on the money with being part dragon. You'll be intimidated by DRGs when curing them (or fighting in Ballista), and you'll be intimidated by demons. However, by the same token, you recieve Arcana Killer (proven after soloing Dark Spark and other bombs with the greaves on). So, the hidden effect of all the Crimson pieces is:

Enhances "Arcana Killer" effect
Weakens "Demon Killer" effect

Something like that. Hope this was helpful.

The Abj. for this armor is dropped of Aspidelechone only, not off Fafnir/Nidhogg. It is near impossible on our server to pull the HNM that drop the Abj. from Nidhogg, Aspi, and King Behemoth because we have an RMT LS on our server that Bots these heavily and NA HNMLS have a chance in hell of getting this. If SE does not stop this RMT (Real Money Trade) LS then no one but people who pay them to get this item will ever be able to get it.

Just a note to SE administrators that might browse this forum, something MUST be done to stop this botting of HNM on Carbuncle Server by the LS called "Grey Rabbits" and their counterpart "Unlimi." This is frustrating that NA LS have a VERY slim chance to even get the pull on these HNM and something needs to be done to level the playing field and get rid of cheating pieces of dog crap like Grey Rabbits.

AF1 body is best for most circumstances. Crimson is good for some also though. I would use it soloing, skill ups, camping and macro for elemental casting for the +10 int. For enfeebling however, mainly if your trying to stick enfeebles on high level mobs you need the AF1 body first.

You buy the cursed gear either from a bazaar, a friend, or the Auction House.

Then you fight a god or HNM that drops the appropriate Abjuration. For Crimson gear, it is all Wyrmal Abjurations.

Then you take the Cursed armor, and the matching Abjuration to a fellow in the Cathedral in North Sandoria. He'll decurse the armor (with your help) and it will turn into rare/ex Crimson Armor.

Ex: Cursed Greaves + Wyrmal Abjuration: Feet = Crimson Greaves. You can do this whenever you have the armor, and as many pieces at a time as you wish-but most folks only get one piece at a time with the matching abjuration.

As mentioned, this WILL make you "intimated" by all dragon-killer mobs, because in essence, it renders you part dragon. So you will be scared of demons and even dragoons if they are in your party. What this essentially does is paralyze you, as if the spell were cast on you. You won't be able to heal any DRGs in your party either. ; ;

purifying is when you take an abjuration that is acquired from killing a certain very difficult nm, and handing that, and a piece of cursed armor, to a dude in the San D'Orian Cathedral.

The Cursed armor pieces are made with the highest level crafting skills, ie. Woodworking, Clothcraft, Smithing, etc..

RE: Redmgs

/em looks at it
I still disagree. The AF1 gives enfeeble magic skill, which a rdm's main job, the AF2 enhances fast cast and gives more then half the mp this gives too, those are both very nice abilities. I'd say it depends on how you play your rdm.
RE: Redmgs
# Oct 27 2004 at 6:09 PM Rating: Default
I'll have to disagree with you, SamGadsby. It is true we all have different strengths of how we play our jobs, but besides the HP/MP buffs on this, the 10 extra INT and MND are really sweet. But, if your pt is well formed, I guess enfeebling would be better.

I am nowhere near high enough to really *know* but this sounds more like armor for all the RDM/NIN out there. You get a boost to your Nin Spells as well as your Rdm spells. Where the AF armor is more Rdm specific. So, if you are rich enough to have a good set of pt and solo armor. This would probably be great for the solo part.

Crimson Armor

I first saw a full set of Crimson Armor when I went to get my chocobo licence. Since then, I'd never seen anyone with it. Well, last night I stumbled upon an Elvaan RDM wearing it. I know it's only the body part and not the full set, but it's still the coolest looking armor I've ever seen in the game...
