Carapace Breastplate  

Ok.. theres ups and downs to everything. So far as i can see, this stuff isn't worth having unless u wanna look uber lol.

The Carapace Breastplate isn't very good overall. It could help a great deal if ur getting pwnt, supposing the latent actualy does kick in at 25% HP. Main advantage to this piece is to match the rest of the set... No uses in a party situation.

The Carapace Gauntlets however, are much more useful. Stats aren't as extreme, but still useful nonetheless. I just bought these and figured i'd test them out soloing. Take DRG for example. Idk how many of you have played DRG solo, but you hardly ever get above 75% HP. Seeing that this latent is 75% HP (supposedly, agian...) they'd be very efficient, and in my opinion much better than AF or Pallas's. The defense is very useful, not to mention attack is main modifier for Penta Thrust. Very good buy for soloing, but again next to useless in a party situation.

Have yet to buy the Carapace Helm but it isn't very atractive even though it matches.. Walkure mask looks better with it haha. Going back to the DRG example, this Helm would be useless because once you get to 50% HP you macro in your Drachen Armet, HB, and ur back above 50%. Might be useful for another job, not sure though. Overall a waste of 10k gil in my opinion.

Hope this helps anyone losing sleep over spending 35k on a set of useless armors lmao.. oh and btw they look awesome with the exception of the helm ;P

hands go off at 75% head at like 50% and body at 25% red.

this is mostly good for the non latent def which is still good. But it's really cool looking so there's a plus lol

i want a feet and legs pieces for this does anyone know if they exist idc if there the worst pices in the game as long as they match the set i only wear it in town anyway

Today I tested the 3 lvl 61 armour of Carapace and result was this.

Latent effect as I see it kicks in on the amount of HP you got. If full HP no latent effect as many know.

I did a test as WAR lvl 61 with about 1130HP with the Carapace Breastplate the Carapace Helm and the Carapace Gauntlets.

Main states was.

Def 255.
Att 284.

When I got down to 800HP.

Def 292.
Att 271.

When I got down to 500HP.

Def 302.
Att 294.

When I got down to 166HP.

DEF 314.
Att 338.

At this point I were near death so zoned to Rabao and stopped the test right there.

I really think that the latent effect is triggered by how much HP you got left and if you want to suck out the lats juice of this latent effect you got to be really near death to get it's full benefit.

My test is based on the 3 set of Carapace lvl 61 armour and not one by one.

I bough this armour on Fairy server 9-11-2005.

Helm cost 70k

Body cost 100k

Hand cost 30k.

The Latent kicks in at red hp, I believe.
I am looking to buy one of these.

This is now the 3rd SET of armor i carry as war/thf. I have haubergeon and full setup just for best damage. I also carry the full Af set which was my "uh oh i need some def set". That was no good the +enmity on AF meant once i switched to it mob wouldnt lose hate off me. So now i have this set macrod so when i bust out Raging Rush draw hate and take a beating I switch to this. While it does boost attack quite bit without the accuracy dex and str boosts of my DD gear i lose hate pretty quick while the uber def keeps me alive. If it gets really hairy throw a defender on top of it you damn near invincible, although by that time HP is extremely low and mob special moves can still get ya. I dunno if you other wars have this problem but I draw hate from PLD or NIN like nuthin even without any voke or enmity+, but with this set i can stop holding back and go after every mob with all i got. Not to mention it just plain looks wiked.

the top set of this and the bottom set of the tiger looks so sick. I want to get it and get +10 to awesome

30k on Diablos

Thinking about buying this when I hit 61 for my DRG as solo armor. Would work good with AF helm wyvern healing ability and WHM subbed.

hhhmmmm i dont know but i think thi might b good armor for a drk so if they rip hate off tank like they do>.> then they will have a lil extra def to save um...just a thought not sure tho

This isnt really "amazing" for rdm/nin in ballista, lol, acctually its not very good for rdm at all unless your farming a low level mob where you can just keep your hp low and stoneskin up, it might speed the process up. As a rdm soloing you want to have max hp the entire time, stoneskin up along with haste, protect, shell, enXXXX etc. So you wont find yourself with low hp very often, hopefully. Although I own this, Only because It looks Like plate mail and I like plate mail ^_^) and I have it macroed so if I get aggro It auto-equips in party.

Can someone tell me how to get his ... I think u craft it but iam not sure ..and if so what craft cuz iam a lv 40 soon to be alot higher

This is currently (8-13-04) listed as White Mage useable. But, that is not the case. White Mages cannot equip Carapace gear.

its actually a lot better than it looks.....i saw someone wearing it a couple days ago its def. is 44 and as a latent effect yeah it throws on another 44def for you
