NE corner of the Dirtyhanded Gochakzuk building, H-8

If you aren't familiar with Davoi, enter Monastic Cavern @ H-11.
Go through Monastic Cavern to the coffer mob area of Davoi.
After you exit, go around the back of the hill ahead of you, to an elevator.
The building is on top of that hill.

Steelbiter area

I found my Power Sandals in the "Jar" where Steelbiter Gudrud spawns (J-9/J-10). I followed Rosenballs' walkthrough to the hut, but never seen the "Jar", and after reading where some people found it around F-7, decided to go try there. Targeted the "Jar" on the way back through and VOILA.
Yeah!

I gotta thank Rosenballs for his walkthrough. It was spot on. I bought 12 prizm powders, two sneaks, switched to a level 1 job and took off for Davoi. Followed Rosenballs instructions to the letter and got the boots right outside the oak doors. I then proceded to go thru the oak doors and unleashed my fury on Dirtyhanded Gochakzuk (who nuked me for 1057)

In total the quest took me maybe an hour, cost 17,000 gil (20k for powder + 6k for sneak - 9k for the three unused powders) and 0 xp since I was level 1.

I finally got the Sandals after trying for a few days (died everytime cuz of aggro). I even tried to use Flee once and keep running around trying to find it while a train of gobs and geezards folowed me.

I'd like to thank Whitecrow (PLD/WHM) on Asura for escorting me to the jar and helping me out with "Sneak". Actually... I feel like an *** now cuz I'm not sure if that really was his name. It was "White" something.... dammit I'm an idiot.

Well, u know who u are and I'd like to say thanks again buddy, I owe ya one.

I started this quest a long time ago, as a curious 15WAR/no sub and I have always had in mind to check up on them whenever I happened to be in Davoi. I guess I lost that bet with the guy in Selbina long time ago but I never had any intentions to take them to him anyway.

Since using sneak/invisible was, at least for me, shaky business up till during Aht Urghan I gave it one go when I was doing PLD-quest (but didn't find it) and then more or less forgot about it. And not to forget the costs, after all the sneaking to get the new jobs I just couldn't afford it yet. Always thought in the end I would be WHM past 25 before I did it or a level high enough to go un-aggroed (hmm?) but doing the NIN-runs back and forth to Norg I decided to try Sneak+Tonko:Ichi instead and all of a sudden it was possible already at 20. And since Tonko:Ichi has a set time before it wears off I see it as better than oils+powders or the spells-only; at least for low-level-runs like this.

After camping to get an Auriga Xiphos in Gelsba for a whole weekend and waiting for my son to get in level so we could do the fellowship-quest for him I decided to try it out, just to liven things up a bit. It worked fine. I ran south and around, zoned into Monastic Cavern by mistake once (at H11), and I never had any problems with applying my spells again. I had a macro with both (/wait 7 inbetween) and only once did I have to apply tonko manually since it didn't take. It was close a few times, I was standing almost next to Orcs that I knew would aggro and still managed to recast in time.
There is many things like storageholes, wells, and flipping hutflaps and whatever in Davoi and I started to get unsure if it really was a "jar" I was looking for. At one point I found a "???" and thought that was it but it was placed behind some kind of fence so I had to run all the way to the area were PLD-aspirants go and back up another way (to F9). When I had taken off Invisibility and pressed it it said something about a dark and damp place. All this time I had an angrylooking Beastrider standing infront of me and I were just waiting for him to start beating on me but somehow I was soon running back through the waterchannel again.
When I finally found it it was at H8, in a pot just next to the water (and it said "jar"). After I used an Instant Warp and went to help my son (and just after he had beaten the fellowship-dragon I got my Xiphos too).
I dont know how long time it took, I rested now and then, but I used about 20 tools for tonko that I already had in my moghouse. If I would have bought powders, 2 stacks, that would have been 100-120k, maybe more now since Aht Urghan.

And the other day I got them for my sons character too. He has been busy and not able to play for a while but with his permission I am "fixing" some of his jobs meanwhile. My goal is to syncronise us level-wise with several jobs. Since this is Final Patience and he doesn't have any he doesn't have that many ra/ex things either (and I have to have patience for two, lol). It is annoying when you do something a second time and you don't have the same good equipment and you can't send it between the characters. But these shoes are great, not much competition and easy to get; almost like a 100% drop. The only thing is that the Jar can be in different places.
First I went straight to H8 were I found it last but no "Jar". On my way to the entrance to log off (had to go to work in ten minutes and wanted to be safe when I logged in for a second try) I passed through K9-K10 and there it was.
Since he didn't have whm leveled enough I used Silent oils/Tonko: Ichi this time. But it went so much quicker so I only used 4 oils.

Sorry for my bad English...

I found the Jar in H-8, zoning by Monastic Cavern *_*

Power Sandals, mine! =P They're good since Level 29 (at level 29 u can buy in AH Kampf feet, that gives u VIT+3 and more Defense than Power Sandals). These Sandals are perfect for capped20 quests, such as Eco-Warrior etc... good! *_*!!!

These are nice if you have a tanking job, i.e PLD or WAR, or can't afford/be bothered to camp bounding boots, or just wanna look cool ^^

Hardly anyone knows about these boots...you rarely see tanks wear this. Its a nice pair of booties, ^^ I suggest you risk the trip to davoi to get it! ^^

Targeting Jars Inner Davoi

Response to earlier post asking whether or not you can target the river jar from above on the hill once through Monsastic Cavern to Inner Davoi. Answer is yes, as I went to the Jar up the elevator with the really nasty orcs, did some tabbing around and found my Jar down below on river bed. Easy solution: ride elevator back down, and drop off the broken bridge, take a left (watching for pugs) and there ya go.

A suggestion: Go ahead and eat up a couple oils/potions and go all the way to inner Davoi first. I wasted a good hour and some gil on sneak/invis by trying all the outer Davoi locations first.

Okay, quick question...
Say I activate the quest and wager I can finish it in 72 hours. If those 72 hours burn out before I get the sandals, do I have to re-activate the quest in Selbina in order for the jar to spawn again? Or will it just stay there indefinitely until you've grabbed the sandals? Also, will the spawn point of the jar change if you enter/exit Davoi, or only if you re-activate the quest?
RE: uhm...
# Jun 13 2005 at 12:12 AM Rating: Decent
The spawn of the jar works like RSE, it will respawn after a couple minutes when somebody gets the jar.

Dunno about your question on the time limit, though.

Quest is started in Selbina. You talk to the NPC Devean (I-9) and he bets you that you can't find the power sandles in Davoi within a specified time frame. After you make your bet with him, you go to Davoi and look around for a point called "Jar." It spawns in different spots, but I found mine in the very middle of Davoi-- meaning I had to go through the Monastic Caverns. The Caverns are located at (H-11) in Davoi and the exit leading back to Davoi is located at (I-8). Unless you're level 70+, it's a very good idea to either have Prism Powder and Silent Oil, or be a WHM with the Sneak and Invisible spells. I went as a level 28 WHM to get mine.

After you acquire the Power Sandles, just keep them and forget about Devean's bet with you. If you return the Sandles to him, he won't let you keep them as a prize. When you're done using the Sandles (I plan to replace mine with RSE when my BST reaches level 29), just turn them in to Devean so that you can repeat the quest later on. This is in case you think the sandles will help another class you're leveling and you don't want to take up storage space with the Sandles. By the time you're done using them, you will have lost your bet with Devean by a couple Vanadiel years... so don't expect him to cough up any dough, lol.

Good luck!

deveen locations is in selbina (obviously) but ill start from valk zone ... when you walk in go straight and down the stairs.. then straight and a little to the left there is another set of stairs go up them and behind the building on the right side and at the end you will see him standing there ..should be a child npc on the way also "hiding" he says (the child) and once past him its pretty easy to spot good luck

After you're done with these, since PLD is the only job you really need them for, turn 'em in to the guy in Selbina. It clears outta your quest log, and you can repeat again if you ever need in the future. So far as I can tell, failing the quest didn't affect fame to a noticeable degree.

PLD the only job???? BS i used them for drk, thf also (not neccesary for thf), also sam and mnk i used em for... these are great for almost any melee job at 18 (unless you have leaping boots) considering the only boots at that level that can provide +3 in any stats was the aformentioned leaping boots.. so IMO these are great for a good amount of time i dont plan on trading em in unless i got all melee past 30ish .. rock on

I agree with you, great boots for MNK. Monk can't even use the Leaping boots, so I plan on getting these and using them for MNK from lev 18~25+.

Just found my Jar at the upper left of (J-9) just before the bridge. There were about 8 IT++ orcs around it, but I made it without any trouble as a WHM58. Just waited till they all turned their back.

YES, I finally got them. Been one day since i decided I wanted them, and I just got them. The first time, I went in with a lvl 75 WHM. I could tell he didn't know what he was doing, but it was nice of him to help me all the same. Then I died, but it was not his fault. He had to go, and I was stuck trying to find another person to help me. After what seemed like 5-6 hours, I found a lvl 65 PLD who decided to help me. HE knew where it was. He told me not to enter, and that he would come back once he found the jar. After literally 2 mins, he called me over. It was the first place that was listed on the map. Did not even need sneak of invis. I went over, and I got em'!!

I did exactly all what Rosenballs said to do to get these boots. When i was up the elevator, i ran around the church, spamming "target", and didnt find any "jar". After 15 mins i unfortunately died because orcish dragoon agroed me when no invis weared.
So i would like to know what is wrong in Rosenballs message, cause it was a hard way to get to church at lv19 to finally die w/o the boots.

Ok, so I read this and start thinking "Hey, swet deal, all these people MUST know what they're talking about, so it should be no problem, right?" While I don't discredit anyones information, too much gil in Medicine says that the above mentioned points are not all of em and that my broke bootless hide has no sandals to speak of. I'm on Midgardsormr...named Soteria...and if you wanna come show me where the heck these things may be, I would gladly appreciate the help ">< Is there anything else needed to make this thing spawn? Is it a spawn? All I know, is that I have tried all of the above points. And the only "???" I found was some damp spot that I didn't even care to remember. Help me out if you could ^^b
Just inside Davoi

The jar, for me, was directly inside Davoi, in the first open area, directly on the other side of the pond. Took me all of about one minute to do this.

So the directions Rosenballs gives, while good, is just one of the possible locations.
