This is a response back to Rosenballs' post...it is for the most part dead on...I didn't waste any time searching anywhere else for these boots just went straight to the Stronghold. Tried 3x on this, once with my THF15 and some oil/potions...which proved to be costly in exp and gil cuz died 2x. Third time I went back with my RDM, invis'ed my way thru Monastic Cavern and to the Stronghold and just waited for orcs to turn, dropped invis, tapped the ??? and invis'ed my way back out. Easy if u are simply patient...follow that post. :-)
Thank you

Yes, I got mine on Monday and I leveled my PLD up to 18 last night, so I can equip them now. They're great!

My jar was at (J-8), above the water and on that platform. You can highlight the jar when you first enter Davoi, but you have to run through Monastic Cavern and the stronghold to cross the bridge and get to it. And there are no mobs up there by it, so if you find yours there, it's easy to grab and then use your scroll of warp!

Got the boots last night. It was fun and exciting, and I didn't die!!

First, the jar is like the storage hole quest for the RDM AF1 - the spawn spot is totally random. I switched to my WHM 30 and followed the instruction to get to the 'stronghold' in Davoi, and no jar. I ended up walking around Davoi a bit before I found the jar in the NW section of the map.

It's probably easier for people to run around the entire map of Davoi before entering Monastic Cavern. Lizard aggro sound, but orc only aggro sight. You can also cast invis on top of invis without getting aggro, even if an orc is standing right in front of you. (unlike sneak).

Also, if you ended up at the stronghold, just jump into the river off the broken bridge to get out. There is also a safe resting area if you follow the path to the east.

the 3 VIT will give you 1 point more of DEF, and VIT will lower the damage curve (Maximum damage) that you take.

These are pretty much good until Kampfshcuhs.

My Jar, of course, was on the center island amongst the 70-ish Orcs. My wife (50 WHM), friend (62 BST), and I (50 WAR) went through the first part of Davoi without a problem. Once we got into Monastic Cavern (which looks way too much like Crawler's Nest) my invisible just HAD to wear off in a non safe area. We managed to get invisibled again and made it back onto Davoi. Once AGAIN, Invisible wore off between two orcs and I got aggroed. Ended up losing 800 HP and zoning back into Monastic Cavern. Second time I was able to go up the elevator, get the jar near the Oak Door, and then Teleport-Holla out of there.

It was fun.

I just did this with the above person's walkthrough and didn't die. 25 RDM, like he said, waiting in safe areas for invis sneak to wear off and reapplying them. I suppose I was just lucky with the positioning and facing of the orcs but I easily had enough time to drop my invis (by casting protect), pull the elevator switch, and recast invis while on elevator. At the actual jar spot there were no orcs, they were all round the corner.

I mean yes these orcs are probably fantastically hard, but I think we've all been dealing with lots of 'if you are spotted it's death' situations for a while now, in fact ever since we get our first dunes invites. :)

Got em! It took awhile to find the Jar but I did have to go through Monastic Cavern to reach the top where the Jar was. As soon as I grabbed it an Orc Dragoon pwned me in 2 hits for about 350 each!

Changed to lv 15 thf, grabbed a choco from Sandy to Davoi. Bring a stack of Prism Powders and a stack of silent oils. Found them in a "Jar" in F-9...amongst lv 50'ish orcs.

I just proved that this quest doesn't have to be hard, and doesn't have to be a mad rush through the inner stronghold :) On attept #1, I promptly died near the Wall Of Dark Arts when aggroed by an aggressive lizard. Respawn, try again. This time around, I barely got in the door when I find my "jar" hiding behind the big wooden structures in front of the zone. Couldn't be easier... in & out in ten mins. Many thanks to Deadfred for the help!

No, you can obtain them anytime after you get the quest. You only fail because you are not going to turn them into the guy to complete the quest.

My brother 30 Rdm and I 30 War crept or way in there and got out alive. (no warp just running) Roseballs walk through was dead on! Thanks, rate up! When you examine the Jar you don't have to die. I stood next to it (snk & inv) and waited for the Orcs to turn around. They were right next to me but facing the other way. I hit Defender to drop the invis, grabbed the sandals, and was ready to die but the Orcs didn't notice me. So I took off for the Elevator where my brother was waiting. Recast everything and we started the long run out.

Had a blast and I think the sandals will be well worth it!

Now to level Pld with my new Sandals!

I found my pair last night after quite a bit of searching. After searching in a few other areas, I came to the open area at (G-9). In that area, there were 2 items that came up green. One was a "Storage Hole", and the other I can't remember. Both of them were near the southwest corner of (G-9). From the Storage Hole, I went straight west and soon afterwards I found the jar. I'm not sure how far into (H-9) I went, I didn't really have time to check my map. However, it couldn't have been much further than where the passage north forms (about mid-way through the (H-9) square). After finding the jar, I waited for the orcs to turn, dropped invis, and got my boots. However, those orcs must be pretty quick, because I had aggro on me right away, and they finished me off before I could get a Warp off.

I hope people don't get too frustrated trying to find this. It's not very difficult to keep invis/sneak up, there are many safe points that I found with no orcs around. If you find one, and you start to lose one of your spells, go back, drop it, and recast. It's much better than forging forward and hoping to find another safe spot.

I hope my description was helpful. These sandals are definitely worth 1 deaths-worth of XP. Good luck jar hunting!

Ok, I just got these yesterday and man were they worth the level down and the hours trecking through orcish hell.

Found mine at the central island, near a corner. You don't need to go onto the island to actually get the sandels, since the jar is really close to the ledge, you can just run up to it and pick them out. In Davoi, invisableing yourself around is not to bad a problem, but keep sneak on too, there are some nasty lizards called gezzards which detect by sound and kick ***.

These will last you quite a while, especilly for PLDs, who doesn't like VIT+3 anyway? The fire up is also nice, as bomb toss is teh bane of parties at lower levels.

Can you still find the item if the time limit has expired? i tried it with some prism powder and silent oils and ran out b4 i found it. Now the 72 hours or whatever the longest time limit is has passed, can i still get them?

Well, this quest is kinda tricky. pretty much all of the information from the previous posters is correct (about how to gett he quest and what not), though im not sure if a certain amount of fame is required.

Anyway, i took my 25whm/17blm along for the ride for this quest. i ran all the way from selbina to davoi and got myself prepared.

Now for this Quest, the spawn points for the jar are hard to point out. all i can say is that when i did this quest i ran ALL over davoi except for the Stronghold in the center because i was not sure how to get up there.

While running all over davoi and seeming to be unsuccessful, i decided to make a 2nd run. i cam so close to dying about 2 times. all i had to do is make sur ei had sneak and invis the whole time. the only times it got dangerous was when i got a warning that it was about to wear, and i happened to be in an area that was crowded with orcs. just play it safe and smart.

Anyway, when i did my 2nd run, (i was still in davoi the whole time, i didnt die once) i went back to an area where i could have sworn i had seen something weird.

The area where i ended up finding the jar was at J-9. i didnt know exactly what the jar would look like or say, but sure enough, it looked just like any of the other jars found in davoi, except all the others CAN'T be targetted. this jar was clearly marked as just "JAR."

I got my sandals and used my scroll of instant-warp ^_^ Now i cant wait to lvl pld to that lvl and beyond. it took me more than 2 hours btw... but well worth it. i guess it's just on how lucky you get.

Here's some more info. the reason why i know that the jar appears in different areas is because i asked my lil bro to do the quest to get the sandals for his taru pld, lvl 28 atm.

So my lil bro took his lvl 30rdm and did the same thing, except he died a few times. when he reached the area right under the stronghold, he was able to target the jar from the stream in which he was at.

We're still very unsure as to how to get up there. BUT, he was lucky because there were 2 high levels up there and he asked for some help, and this is what they did ^_^ :

It was a high lvl WHM and DRK. so what my bro did was die, then the DRK tractored his corpse to the top of the stronghold, and the WHM gave him a Raise II or III, can't remember.

He got his sandals, and died shortly after. but now he's a happier taru pld than he was before ^^

I hope this proved helpful to someone. just know that if you are going to do this quest, you're in for some exploring! have fun and good luck!
RE: GOT THEM! WOOT!

Here is my journey, based on the post before the one I am now replying to: I gathered up 4 prism powders and 3 sneaks. After much looking on the internet, I found a ghetto copy of the MONASTIC CAVERN, which is how you get to the stronghold that the person I am now reply to, did not know how to get to. And.....wait for it...here we go:
I set hp in s.sandy, jumped a choco, and then went to the Holla crag in La Thiene. You can laugh, but I figured my choco would ditch me before I reached Davoi, seeing that I was under level 20. So I got off my choco at the crag, to get another choco, just in case. But wait! If you're under level 20 you CANNOT get a choco at crags. Oops.
Enter Davoi: The two previous posters have it nailed down, read there stuff. If you solo this like I did, take at least 7 or 8 prizm powders and maybe 5 silent oils. The invis/sneak effects seemed to last longer than others/shorter than others, so I died the first time through with only 4 prizms. With 7 prizms, it was a cake walk. When I got to the stronghold though (going through the Monastic Cavern) and went up the "elevator", or wooden lift as I'd call it, the jar wasn't up there. But an Orcish Ranger was. I found the jar below the upper level, meaning= I found it (3) times now, and it's been in the same place each time. Whether or not u can target it from the creek is a mystery. When I get Invis at lvl 25 with whm im gonna try it out. Don't waste your silent oil in the Monastic Cavern. The Orcs I ran into, literally, never cared if I made a sound. The lizzies are what get super pissed in Davoi if they hear hidden creature lurking about. Good luck, and may you find these sandals VERY helpful. I have. I'll prolly wear them till I get my AF gear.

Walkthrough for Obtaining Power Sandals
# Jul 26 2004 at 1:19 PM Rating: Excellent
I EDITED THIS POST: THE SANDALS ARE NOT ALWAYS AT THE STRONGHOLD. THIS IS A WALKTHROUGH IF THEY ARE AT THE STRONGHOLD.

I had a lot of trouble getting this item: I spent 15k on Silent/Prisim Powders and died 4 times before finally obtaining this item. Was it worth it? I sure think so. Anyway, I wanted to clear up any questions about this quest and help others do it cheaper and more easily in the future. Here's my little walkthrough for obtaining the sandals:

ATTN: YOU ARE GOING TO DIE DOING THIS IF YOU ARE LVL 70 OR BELOW, SO JUST ACCEPT IT AND GO ON

DOING THIS MISSION AS A PALADIN OR THIEF SO THAT YOU CAN USE YOUR 2-HOUR HELPS GREATLY - ONE HIT BY SOME OF THESE MOBS WILL KILL YOU AT LOWER LEVELS (18, which is ideally when you want to do this quest)

1. Go to Selbina and talk to Devean (I-9). He is up the stairs behind a few buildings.

2. Give him 100 gil and tell him you'll be back whenever, it doesn't matter, you're gonna pork him outta his sandals either way

3. Buy 3 bottles of Silent Potion and 4 Bottles of Prisim powerder. This should suffice if you do this walkthrough correctly.

4. Be sure to have a map of Davoi and of the Monastic Cavern - you will need both. (Davoi map can be purchased in North San d'Oria from Elesca (I-8). Don't know about the Monastic Cavern, I happened to already have it...)

5. Go to Davoi and use sneak/invis to get to (H-11) where you enter the Monastic Cavern. When you get into the Monastic Cavern, use another sneak/invis potion. Head to (I-8) where the map seems to head to a new zone. This will bring you back up to Davoi

6. BE CAREFUL. This area of Davoi is the "Stronghold" and there are Orcish Dragoons, etc. which are Lvl 70+. You will need another sneak/invis potion at this point.

7. Ok, the marker you are looking for is labelled "Jar", and is up the eleveator right next to the hut. Basically, you're going to die getting these sandals no matter what, so here's what I did:

a) Sneak/invis to the elevator, then uninvis to hit the switch when there are no orcs in your view. Get on the elevator, hit the switch again to make it go up, and then use your last prism potion (no sneak needed, only invis).

b) You are now up next to the hut and you must find the marker labelled "Jar". Once you find this, if you are PLD or THF, use your 2-Hour and become Invincible/Perfect Dodge. Then become uninvis (If you aren't already b/c of 2-hour, I can't remember) and check the Jar. You will obtain the Power Sandals.

That's how I did it, and died shortly thereafter. Whether or not you need a 2-hour is kind of luck, because there may or may not be Orcs near you when you examine the "Jar". I can say that in my experience, there were a ????-ton of Orcs, so my 2-HR was the only way possible to do it. If you can get by without it, more power to you. Don't plan on having enough time to warp back or anything like that, just take the death and be happy with a 3000gil pair of sandals (price you paid for potions).

Now, onto the FAQ/Clearing up part:

- The marker is labelled "Jar", not ??? or Urn or anything like that... It really pissed me off that people posted that b/c I ran around forever looking for both of those and only found the Thyme Moss, which actaully does net you 3000gil on a mission, but doesn't do anything for the Sandals...

- Wear the ???? out of the Sandals cause they're money and not well known. I've had them for 2 days and already had a half a dozen people ask me where I got them. Can't beat a free pair of Sandals with +3 VIT... That would cost like 100k on an AH. Peace!

Where do we get these? Those would be great for my Thief and Paladin. I heard that you get these when you are doing the Davoi quest from Selbina. Is this true? Anyone have some proof before I run into an annoying quest?

This is a quest related item, however it's not the reward, it's actually the item you have to find and submit to the NPC in order to complete the quest. Supposedly, it's found in a "jar" located in the Davoi area (from what I've read, the location seems to be randomized.)

Quest details: "Test My Mettle"
