Mermaid's Ring

In doing this quest a couple of times and talking to others who did it I think there is a trend in drop rates. Three of the items are dropped from mobs and the 4th is a nm. The two times I did it I was around 2/650 on Brooks for the head, others I talked to were a lot less (like inthe 40's-50's), but had problems on other drops (Creek mostly).
I am thinking the reason one of the drops is a nm and that drop is 100% is because you should get it LAST. As in the more mermaid items you have, the lower the drop rate on the others. Both times Brook (Head) was my last and in reading these posts and from experience its seems if your last item isn't the nm item you have a horrible time getting last item TH or no TH.
I am going to do this quest again getting the nm item last to see what my drops rates are. Since the nm is an easy pop I would highly suggest getting other three items first.

I dont know about anyone else here, but this has got to be one of the most frustrating quests in all of Vana'diel!!!! I have been farming brooks for almost 2 days now.. 3 stacks of myth coins, countless missives for garrison, shells, toads, newts.. But not ! friggin Mermaid Head. I swear the more I play this game themore it frustrates me. From the major synthing issues, to drops, etc.. SE really need to revamp this game...

Spent the day farming up the mermaid parts for this quest after an unsuccessful venture two days ago. I waited at H-6 for Paddlestox to appear at 0:00 on the turn of windsday. I had my map marked and immediately ran into Kazham for a choco and rushed down to find the ??? Treasure Marker.
I used the pick around 2:34 on Windsday with 2% New Moon, I recieved the following drops:
4000gil
Coral Fragment
Blue Rock
Gold Beastcoin
Mermaids Ring!!
I don't think I want to try this quest again in a hurry and now my NIN has extra Emnity at level 43^^

However, I also noticed that there is a tunnel beneath the surface... I've checked the surface and the tunnel because I can be right on the marker on my map from either location...
So, does anyone have any experience with this particular location? Should I be looking on the surface or in the tunnel?

There's a brown patch of grass right where the green marker on your map is. If you stand on it, the ??? will appear and you can get the chest.
Doing the whole quest took me about 8 hours. I was lucky to get the Mermaid Ring, and I don't think I'll ever be bored enough to do it again.

My first attempt at completing the Beastmen Treasure (Elshimo Lowlands Region) quest.
NPC Peddlestox told me to go to Yuhtunga Jungle (K-7, bottom-center); went there twice but couldn't find the correct ???. (There is a static ??? nearby for another quest.)
Finally, decided to read the Allakhazam posts and saw that I needed to move around the spot and use the TAB KEY to till the ??? appeared. ><
Third try... after some trial and error (and running out of time quickly), found the ??? at the base of the big rock (located near the cliff-edge, Southeast of the ramp that comes up from Gemini Falls).

I did this quest last night. Talked to the gob and went straight to the spot. I walked around for about an hour and a half trying to get it to spawn. I zoomed in like people have posted about doing, went and got a chocobo in Norg and came back out to it, still nothing. So I decided to take out my frustration on every mob in sight. After I cleared most of the mobs around the spot I F8 again and there it is. So maybe the mobs near the spot throw off the targeting or something. I got an Onyx, Coral Fragment, Beastman's Seal, and a Silver Beastcoin

Quest: Beastmen Treasure (Elshimo Lowlands)
Peddlestox will only appear in Yuhtunga Jungle around (H-6), behind a rather large rock, during Windsday. He will ask you to bring him four parts of a Mermaid:
-Mermaid Head: dropped of Brook Sahagin in Sea Serpent Grotto.
-Mermaid Body: dropped of Spring Sahagin in Sea Serpent Grotto.
-Mermaid Hands: dropped of Creek Sahagin in Yuhtunga Jungle.
-Mermaid Tail*: dropped of Seww the Squidlimbed in Sea Serpent Grotto.
*This is a 100% drop from this NM, the place holder for Seww the Squidlimbed is the Riparian Sahagin.
When you bring the items back to Peddlestox, he will tell you the location of the treasure, which he marks on your map. Find the ??? and use a Pickaxe and you will receive a random a treasure, the drops can include: about 4,000 gil, Mermaid Ring, Amber, Gold Beastcoin, Beastmen's Seal, Blue Rock, Grain Seeds, Silver Beastcoin, Tourmaline, Mythril Beastcoin, Vegetable Seeds, Red Rock, Coral Fragment.
Notes:
Mermaid Ring is not 100%. After having your map marked, it does not have to be Windsday to find the ??? You can zone and still find the ??? The ??? will only pop when you are directly on top of it ( this is the cause of frustration for many). From my experience doing this quest a few times the drop chances from easy to hard are: Mermaid Tail -> Mermaid Body -> Mermaid Hands -> Mermaid Head.

Just a bit of an observation, even though I've only done it three times.
I'm at 2/3 on the ring, and I found that the first two times that I got the ring was when I waited until 0:00 to 4:00. However, the third time I rushed and digged it up at 22:00, and didn't get the ring.
Maybe the time has association to the drop rate?

I am 0/6 on this quest. Been able to get all parts at different rates each time, Ranging
from anywhere between 7 hours to 4 days(stupid brooke sahagins were stingy ><), so I'm sure that
the rate at which you get parts won't affect the chance of getting ring.
Gotten treasure chest durning various moon phases too(except for new moon) and still have not recieved ring. Very sure on the part about just stepping over exact spot to cause the ???
to spawn. Also had TH1 on 4/6 times I've found chest.
Seriously think this quest is broken. ; ;

In order of increasing difficulty, I'd say getting the items to drop is: tail<body<<arms<<<head
I farmed for 6 hours for that head, got maybe 20 blackened frogs, 6 stacks of shells, one stack of gems, and too many newts to count.

I recently completed this quest and can offer a little input:
The ??? is spawned by walking directly over the Treasure marker placed on the map by the NPC.
- First adjust your map view so you are zoomed all the way in, as it will make an enormous difference.
- You will need to position your character DIRECTLY over the marker in order for the ??? to appear.
- If you find yourself unable to target the ???, try to position yourself on the marker while riding a chocobo. (You do NOT have to dig)
- It does NOT need to be Windsday to find the ???.
- You CAN zone and still complete this quest. The Treasure marker resides locally on the PC, meaning if you log on using a different computer, the marker will not appear.

ok, I got the treasure marked on the map, warped to windy to get a pickaxe & outpost warped back to the spot on the map, zoomed in as far as it would go (it makes a huge difference) and walked right on top of it over and over, it didn't spawn. My friend says you have to go straight to the spot after speaking to the gobbie, so I'm going to wait for next windsday, talk to him, and run right over w/out zoning to check it out. I'll update after, but if anyone else has heard the same thing, please reply.^^
*Edit* ok, I went back and spoke to the gobbie again, and ran straight to the spot on the map, walked on it, and it popped immediately. I'm sure you don't HAVE to do it this way, but it might create extra waiting if you don't. Something to keep in mind anyway.^^ Btw, I got the ring \(^.^)/ Good luck everyone!

Just finished this quest talked to Peddlestox at 0:01 am, traded items and found ??? all before 3:00am Windsday morning. I got the Mermaid's Ring, Tourmaline, Silver Beastcoin and a bag of vegetable seeds. /cheer
Also noticed the ring is now selling for 2,000,000 gil + on Hades. /stagger

I'm 0/4 on the ring with this quest, hopefully the 5th time will be the charm. As of this writing, I have the hands and head. I'll be killing spring sahagins for the body and the NM for the tail in the coming days.
Anyone looking for a gauge on how hard this quest can be... I've been straight killing Creek Sahagin in search of mermaid hands and have been keeping track of how many I've killed. I'm about 0/130 on obtaining the hands at this point.

I just completed this quest for the 1st time and i can verify that for me at least the ??? did spawn as soon as i ran over the marked spot on map. I traded the goblin and found chest by 4:00 windsday morning. My drops were:
tourmaline
coral fragment
gold beastcoin
mermaid's ring
I thought this was a fun quest actually and i plan on doing it again for sure. Good luck to anyone else that wants to do this quest.

I have done this quests many times, and I am 10/22 on getting the ring, so I believe it is a 50% shot even though I have gone 3/3 at times and 0/5 at times.
There is nothing more I can really add because Gana's guide is perfect, hits every thing on the dot. The only thing I've noticed is if the ??? pops fairly quickly I don't get the ring.

I'm 0/2 on Mermaid Ring now. The quest wouldn't be so bad, but Brook Sahagins refuse to drop. This time it took me atleast 200 kills before the Mermaid Head dropped.
I have some good news though. Since the NPC has been updated, taking your NPC to Sea Serpent Grotto to help with hunting is extremely helpful. I use mine to level and hunt at the same time and I only get good results. I hope this helps.
I'm going to try again for the ring. It would be a huge asset... Wish me luck.

man i feel sorry for you guys lol. the "???" is spawned when you step directly over it. Keep checking your map marker and run around in the center of the marked spot, the "???" will pop.
theres no need to do this for hours.

did this quest today, getting the head took more time than everything else put together, killed (seriously) about 700-800 Brooke Sahagins as 75pld/15thf, took likt 3 min to talk to gob

Okay, did this quest AGAIN, got drops a lot easier this time, killed then while farming eyes^^. the treasure was marked at the exact same spot (and yes, all u have to do is run over the exact spot, seems easiserto find if u zoom in to the max on your map) However, i got crap again ; ;

This is the dumbest God Damn piece-of-sh*t quest EVER!! But I must be just as dumb cause I keep doing it. So far I've done it 3x, and I'm 1/2 on rings. I havent dug up the ??? yet for the third time yet because I sat around tabbing around for the ??? for 3hrs and got pissed and quit. Everytime I've done this quest I've had to wait at least 2hrs for the damn ??? to pop. The second time it took a total of 7hrs over two RL days for me to finally see the ??? My question is, why the hell would SE make a stupid ass ??? spot spawn and de-spawn, and not just have it there waiting for you once you finish the quest? Do they not think anybody has a REAL LIFE?! And once you finish the quest...the ring is isnt even 100%, how gay.
I suggest ONLY doing this quest is you have ALOT of patience and ALOT of free time on your hands for farming parts, and waiting for the ??? spawn. The only reason I've done this more than once is because this ring has sold for up to 900k on my server since the NIN "nerf". But pppllleeassee save yourself the frustration of doing this if you have better ways of making gil. After I finish it this time, ring or no ring, I'll never do or even help somebody else do this God forsaken quest!!

have a question about this..
I traded 4 items to the gob..
and reach the treasure place by the next day..
because I went through IC then back to the jungle.
and found the ??? on the edge at the top..
and I went up.. trade the pikeaxe. nothing happened..
just wanna know if I am still within the quest..
or I need to farm the items again?

I found the ??? right away after walking over the spot, but as I ran up mine also disappeared. I turned around and could target it again. I found that I could only target it when facing a certain direction, even if standing directly over it.

Before rushing off to do this quest, there are a few precautions:
1) Sahagins are mean little critters and link like crazy. I didn't start soloing this quest until I was level 64+, and even then, I would sometimes get into trouble and have to flee to Norg with a giant train on my butt.
2) The mermaid ring is not 100% guaranteed. It took me several attempts at this quest before I actually obtained the ring (I also have the worst luck you will probably ever see with droprates). I have seen friends of mine get it on their first attempt though=)
3) Mermaid pieces are rare drops. You may spend a few hours farming the same sahagin type. Personally, I combat this by subbing thf and only farming these pieces when the moon is at 80% full or larger. Subbing thf not only helps with droprates, but allows one to steal from/mug the sahagins. At times, I have farmed 100k+ in beastcoins during a single attempt at this quest. If you do not have a thf sub or you are too low in level to do this quest effectively, I suggest finding a farming buddy who is thf main or can sub. Two people can do the quest together, but it just takes a little bit longer because you will be trying to get 2 sets of mermaid parts.
4) One must have patience to complete this quest. It takes several hours to complete, but you will also end up filling your inventory with several items: seashells, eastern gems, pearls, elshimo newts, elshimo frogs, blackened toads, shall shells, etc. It's also good to remember that each time you kill a sahagin, like all beastmen, you will get a small amount of gil. It all adds up=)
Obtaining the Mermaid Hands
Start out by heading towards the Sea Serpent Grotto area. Outside the cave to this area (after falling into the hole near the wooden fortress), there are three different types of sahagins, one of which is Creek Sahagins (blue in color). This is the easiest type to kill and also the only type that drops the mermaid hands. If you are having trouble killing these solo, you might want to consider finding a partner at this point. Killing sahagins only gets harder after this point.
Obtaining the Mermaid Body
To get to the area where the body is dropped, zone into Sea Serpent Grotto (farthest cave on the right near the waterfall). As soon as you zone in, you might encounter a yellowish-colored Spring Sahagin (assuming it hasn't been recently cleared). Kill this type, for it is the only type that will potentially drop the body. From this spawn, head towards the left. There is another spawn that pops right near the stairs. Fall down the stairs, and you will find yourself in a large room. In the middle of this room pops another spring sahagin. This large room has 2 exits. The one on the left leads to the ornamental door and another spring sahagin spawn area right near it. The exit on the right leads to a small room (H-9) with 2 spring sahagins. This room has 2 exits as well. The one on the left will lead to the ornamental door and another area (addressed later), and the one at the right leads to the stairs. The two spring sahagins in this room are placeholders for Wuur the Sandcomber, the NM that drops the holy ampulla (60k-80k).
Next, you will want to proceed down the stairs to the right of the room. Once you reach the area with the small pond on the right, I suggest killing the two Royal Leeches near the pond at (H-7), for they are placeholders for Masan, the NM that drops the pigeon 's blood (130k goldsmithing item). From the small pond, you will proceed towards Norg and then hang a right up the steep hill. Once up the hill, continue to go straight until you find the first spring sahagin spawn area. I have just led you along my body farming route, which is, in essence, a complete circle. As things begin to repop, repeat all steps until you get the desired mermaid piece.
Obtaining the Mermaid Head
From the path facing the ornamental door, you have the option of taking a right, which leads to two spring sahagins (NM holders) and Norg, or you could go left. The left route will lead you down a small, inclined path. As soon as you reach the bottom of this path, you will see a fairly large room with an overpass that has a mindgazer and delta sahagins. There is a body of water in the middle of the room, a popular fishing spot. There are also a few types of sahagins here. The type that drops the mermaid head is the Brook Sahagin (blue color). The sahagins in this area are more difficult than the Spring Sahagins, which are more difficult than the Creek Sahagins. The brook sahagins drop mythril beastcoins if you attempt to steal from them. All sahagins in this area and the following areas can drop treasure chest keys. I don't suggest pulling sahagins from this first room unless you are a high enough level to handle several links. stay on the left wall and take the first path on the left. It will lead down another small incline, which opens up into a huge room. There are several brook sahagins in this room which can be pulled singularly if done correctly.
There are two exits in this room. The one straight ahead from the entrance leads to a small circle and a few more brooks. the sahagins on the left side of the circle (L-11) are placeholders for Fyuu the Seabellow, an NM that drops the rare/ex frog trousers. Also in this room is a treasure chest spawn location (on a ledge in the center of area). The other exit is on the right side of the big room (through the water) and is the silver beastcoin door. All other treasure chests spawn beyond this door. It's nice to pop a few treasure chests while farming, so if you don't know the chest spawns, you might want to look them up beforehand. If you wander around in this area, there are several more brook sahagins which you can kill as well.
Obtaining the Mermaid Tail
To obtain the mermaid tail, all you have to do is kill a Seww the Squidlimbed, a sahagin bard NM beyond the silver beastcoin door. I have never killed this NM and not seen the tail drop, so I think we can pretty much guess that this is 100% guaranteed. The hardest part is getting there, especially if you don't have a map.
Getting to the NM:
Proceed from the silver beastcoin door up the hill. continue going straight past the first cliff. You will soon see a path veering off to the right that leads to a dead end. Proceed straight until you come to the second cliff. If you are checking for treasure chests, fall off here and proceed towards the utsusemi room (a treasure can spawn in there). Upon exiting the utsusemi room, fall off of the first cliff on the right and proceed to the area around (G-7). There should be a small body of water nearby. From the path where you entered the room, if you go straight, you will end up at the cliff from which you jump to go to the utsusemi room (you have already been there). If you go right, you will find another cliff as well as a few sahagin. Veering off to the right is a small path that leads to a dead end (treasure spawning area) and a few sahagin. Seww the Squidlimbed will Spawn in place of one of the sahagin at the edge of the cliff. He generally pops about once every two hours, so it's a good idea to hunt the mermaid head (brook sahagin) as you are camping this NM and looking for treasure chests. If you want to leave the area, fall off the cliff where Seww pops and stay on the left. You will once again find yourself in the huge room outside the silver beastcoin door.
What to do After Attaining all 4 mermaid parts
After you get all 4 parts, head back to Norg. Grab a chocobo and head back towards Kazham. Once in Kazham, you will need to purchase a single pickaxe (if you didn't already get one in Norg). Head back outside (chocobo not needed). Proceed towards the hole into which you would fall to get to the level 27-30 leveling spots, but don't fall down the hole. Around (H-6) there is a rather large rock. Go look behind the rock on WINDSDAY and you will see a goblin npc. He only pops on windsday, which is after watersday btw, so don't head out there unless it's going to be windsday soon=) Talk to the goblin npc and trade him your mermaid pieces. He will then mark "Treasure" on your map. Your next job is to hunt down the treasure and dig it up. If you reach the spot where your treasure pops and don't see the ???, be patient, as the ??? is a timed pop and will come eventually. Once you see the ???, trade your pickaxe and hope that you get the mermaid ring among the items that you dig up.
Warning: There is one ??? high on a cliff overlooking another area that is often mistakened for the treasure spot. The ??? will appear right on the mark, so the fake ??? can be distinguished this way. The treasure spot is marked in a different place each time the quest is done, and the spot to which I am referring is only one spot out of however many the gob can mark. I only mention it because it was my first spot selected and was the source of much frustration.
Troubleshooting
I'm writing this section in response to the many PMs that I have received from this quest. The most trouble seems to be encountered when people can't seem to find the ??? that the gob has marked on the map. I have had these troubles myself, and the thing I recommend most is to be patient. Don't stand directly on the spot marked by the gob while trying to find it. I know it's tempting, but don't run off and kill random stuff to kill boredom either (this is especially tempting at Mischievous Micholas' spot). Once the ??? pops, it won't stay long, and you don't want to miss your golden opportunity, so control your urges to kill. Start by walking directly onto the spot marked (in order to know where it should be) and then walk a few steps away from it. You can then look over it and tab. Yes, it has taken me 4+ hours to locate the ??? at one time. I have been told that if you walk directly over the supposed spawning location, the ??? might pop right then and there. I have yet to validate this, but it's worth a try:) This quest is very time-consuming. If you're having troubles in the very end, don't give up. Giving up would negate all of the time you spent acquiring the items, thus making it a complete waste. Stick with it and you will eventually find the ??? (even if it takes a few hours).

This is a really good, comprehensive post. Nice job. :3 The only thing I have to add is my experience... The ??? did indeed pop the second I walked over it. Could've been coincidence, but soon as I stepped -right- on the spot, it appeared between my feet (after 20 minutes of spamming tab).

- about 14:00 or so, the ??? finally spawned (moon was around 50% i think, i forgot to write it down)
- dug up the spot, and got bag of grain seeds, tourlmaine, mythril coin, and mermaid ring
As an FYI, i'm now 1/2 on this quest and i'm not gonna do it again lol

where can i get info on where and how to do this quest. i need the ring for my 45 nin but there is no info on where to begin or what i have to do for quest, any info would be great.. thank you
I got the tail first; Seww was wandering around unclaimed one time when I went behind the silver door looking for a chest.
Much later I decided to farm the other pieces. The Head and Hands didn't take too long, farming with my BST68. The Body took forever, and I often had competition for the Spring spawns. But eventually I got it.
I opened the casket at ~5:00 on a New Moon Iceday, and got 4k gil, Beastmen's Seal, Blue Rock, Grain Seeds, and Silver Beastcoin.
I'm never doing that again. ><

I have spent 4 RL days of my life looking for the ???. I recommend spending 2 days out of your life to do this quest but that's it. I you can't find it by that time go level/farm. I hate that little piece of Sh!t Goblin that gave me that treasure spot. I hate you Peddlestox and if I could SATA Dancing Edge your arse I would then spit in your eye. Never trust a goblin! Only steal and mug from them. Anyway, grats to all who have gotten the ring before 2RL days, but for the multitude of peeps who havent got it. Don't spend your whole week trying for it.

This quest most definitely requires luck. I'm 1/2 on this... the first time I got a black chip. The 2nd time, after many weeks trying to get all the parts, I found the ??? on Earthsday - I think that's 5 games days after the gob marked my map. The thing was that the ??? was in the vicinity of the marker.. not at precisely it's position. Also, just wondering, but I got the drop from the Spring Sahagins on Watersday. Coincidence?

I posted here a little while ago, & I've completed the quest maybe 4-5 times. gotten 3 rings I think. But this time around, I got the spot @ (G-8)-(G-9), where the monkey NM Mischevious Michael(sp) pops. I've camped the spot for a couple of days, but can't seem to find the ???. Has anyone had this spot that knows where it pops?

The first time I finished this quest I found the treasure right away near the Outpost. Mermaid Ring.
The second time I turned in the items the gob marked the treasure near the sahagin pop area of the waterfall. After running around and tabbing for 4 days I was able to locate the ???. Mermaid Ring #2

Do you remember any specifics of when you dug up the treasure? Moon phase, day of week, etc.
I don't exactly know if those have anything to do with it, but being 0/4 on finding a Mermaid Ring I don't want to rule anything out.

It was a diffent moon phase each time.
Both times however it was dug up between 0:00 and 4:00 on Windsday.
The only other constant was running in circles tabbing to find the ???

Ok so i got all my damn parts traded them to the stupid gob on windsday and he markd my map I-6 i got on my chocobo got there the SAME day before 20:00 waited waited waited came ICE day~ why the fuk doesnt the ??? pop at I-6?? <_> what the hell am i sopose to do??!? wait till next windday?!?!
0/4. That's right, I've completed the entire ordeal 4 times, and still don't have a ring to show for it.
On 2 of those attempts I was able to dig up the treasure on the same day I traded the items to the Goblin, but on the other 2 occasions the ??? didn't appear until the next game day. My treasure spots have been at I-6 twice, once at F-11, and once at K-7.
I've never bothered to check the moon phase when I dig it up. Does that seriously have anything to do with it? At any rate, I've pretty much had it with this quest. Unless anybody has any advice on something I'm doing wrong, I probably won't be attempting it again. Thanks.

K, listen up. For all those who have had trouble trying to find the ??? spawn point at the NE corner of the Yuhtunga Jungle map, I have found it. It spawns near the ??? for the Nasus Bees. The edge of the cliff that you're standing on when you're in the ??? area forms a sort of right angle if you look at it from above (i.e looking at it on the map).
At the north end of the east side of the cliff wall there's a rock. On the west side of the rock, I found the Mermaid Ring Quest ??? point. I arrived in the area, a little after 20:00 on watersday (the day before windsday) and there wasn't anything there. So i ran around and killed stuff and checked the area for ??? spots in between kills and happened upon the ??? point on the west side of the rock mentioned above. I didn't /clock it right when I saw it because I was too excited about finding it (i've been doing mermaid quest for weeks now, this first time), but I looked at /clock a little later, and I surmise that I found the ??? at 12:00 on Windsday, though I don't know what time exactly it appeared. Please rate up if this helps you, oh and I got the ring btw ^^. have a good one.

Yo wtf...i just spent 9 hours getting all the items...and i finsih getting the 4th item 2:23 windsday...i go to the goblin and he marks the spot on my map...i go there instantly find the ??? and use mi pickaxe i get "bag of grain seeds" "beastmans seal" "silver beast coin" and "a light opal" where is mi 400k ring...is this not always 100%?

Ok so I got my marker from the goblin. And I've come to this spot now 9 seperate occasions at 0:00 on windday and stayed till 5:00 on ice day and the stupid ??? hasn't spawned.. What the hell am I supposed to do?

My question is where is the goblin?? I haven't retrieved the items yet, not one (just got to lvl 43) so, do I have to get the items, and then look for the goblin in yuhtungha jungle, or should there already be a NPC goblin there?? thanks for the help!

Paladin 61 just kill about 200 springs and 60 creeks no items. rather farm the 400k and buy damn thing for ninja than do this again about 8 hours to waist.
I was on the same boat as you. Got the other 3 mermaid items and could not get a drop from the creek sahagins after killing 100+ (shall shells are decent money and the seashells were good for leveling bonecraft to 7, so I'm not complaining). Finally, I gave up and decided to sub THF to see if TH1 would help. Think it dropped in less then 10 kills. Maybe it was coincidence, but I think I'll stick with THF sub to farm these next time.

I've done this quest a total of 4 times now, drop rate of the ring for me is 3/4 so i guess you could say i've been pretty lucky.
There isnt much that hasnt been said about this quest but in my own experience, i've had the ring drop all 3 times when i found and opened the chest on the night of Windsday from 20:00-4:00. Moon phase has been different all times i got it so im not sure if it has anything to do with that, although im willing to bet if you find the ??? and open the chest the SAME day you turn in the items to the goblin, you'll have a higher chance of getting the Mermaid Ring.
This is my own speculation, im skeptical whether or not it has anything to do with the drop rate but i'll continue to experiment with this quest, as these rings are 600k on my server and im making mucho gil doing it ^^

Isn't there a quest in Kazham that has something to do with you paying a bunch of money for a treasure map that seems useless. Does that tag with this quest when you're sent to dig up the so called "treasure"?

I have the same problem with the NE corner ???. It has never spawned and I spent at least 5 hour hours there. Maybe there is a bug with that spot after the last update.... don't know.

I've been having the same problem as the other 2, about the spot in the far NE corner of the map where the other ??? is at for some type of other quest. I've been camping this spot for 5 hours, and still no pop on the actual ??? that I need. Can anyone help me out?

Stupid things done: threw happy egg, threw bomb core(bought for 180k, had to buyy for 255k), didnt buy haubergeon at 59, bought it at 67.

Guys this quest has been really good to my partner
and I. We've done this quest 5 times with 3 rings.
It really helps to know your way around the jungle
so you can find the ???. Also the ??? de-spawns and re-spawns, so just be patient and it will come. The last time we did the quest, it took about 3 hours to get the 3 regular body parts.
We came back the next day, and after 3 rounds of killing the place holder, the NM spawned and dropped. Maybe we're lucky, but we seem to be doing really well with it. i Hope some of this helps. Good luck!! :P
