well i'm 0/3 on this damn thing.... starting to piss me off.. lol. will get it soon though..

SE must think it's SOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY to move the ??? from one map to another. Got first tag at 3:15am and been skilling up on mobs since... it's now 7:00am -- almost 4 hours after the first spawn. Still haven't seen the ??? so someone must have snagged it on the other map.

What a f'n joke....

0/1 on this, solo'd as DRG/WHM. Mighty Strikes is a little scary, but he swings slow enough that you can Dia between every hit if you need to. Bring a Yag drink/Echo drops.

Also, FFXIclopedia says the Tag's ??? randomly moves around between the four possible spots every minute. Is this true?

1/1 on this as of this morning. Took forever to find the tag. NM was fairly simple as 75THF/NIN .. wearing full AF, used Thief's knife... (I don't play my thf much except to farm) Just have to watch your shadows especially around 50% when he uses MS.. a couple crits for 234 could make or break the fight.. hehe.

Although I have picked up Ant.Prefaectus, Ant.Centurio, and Ant.Magister while camping this guy (got sh*t for drops on all though).
The 2hr window on the ??? is good for camping Nussnacker too, if you have Earthsday+Double Earth (although D-Earth weather just ended as I killed his PHs)

Solo'd this as NIN/THF for TH. Got lucky and found the antican tag in under an hour, got more lucky and got Tungi drop, NM is pretty much a joke @75.

Took a little time but finally got mine. The map listed on this page is wonderful! Here's a quick recap (combining a couple posts) of how to get this axe. First, you need an Antican Tag. This is an actual item so have room in your inventory. The tag is gained by examining a ??? that spawns about every 2 hours. There are 4 spawn points. (please see the map)It may be on the antican tag page...I can't recall now...anyway. Spawn points are: On map 1: M-9, D-11 and G-7. on map 2: G-10 (where Centurio X-I spawns). I recommend entering Quicksand Caves from Eastern Altepa at H-10. checking the 2 spawn points to the west and then checking the M-9 one. If it isn't at any of these fall down the hole at M-9 to reach map 2 for the other one. Of note, Centurio X-I is true sight (sound) so be careful of him if you can't solo him. Once you have the tag the quickest way to where you want to go is through a drop hole on map 1 by the D-11 spawn point. This will take you out to Western Altepa desert. Head over to the J-9 entrance. Follow the path around till you hit the big room. Keep running straight ahead. On the far wall there is a nook with a PLD type Antican. The ??? to trade the tag to for spawning the NM will be here. If it isn't wait a few minutes because somebody just fought it. For the NM fight definitely remember to bring echo drops if you're relying on shadows to tank this beast. It has a ton of hp and pretty decent defense.

My story: I went as a 72 thf/nin. Nothing in the zone aggroes at that level. It was shortly after maintenance and I decide to go for this axe. War is at 61 now so probably a good idea to go get it...I got to map 2 and I see Centurio X-I up and decide to take him on. Got a clean pull on him but ended up getting unlucky with a poorly timed -aga...death. Fortunately I had a RR pin on at the time, so i get back up swearing revenge. I rest to full, get reraise up and call out my NPC. On the second pull I got a link. With my full eva gear setup (+40 eva) the link was only responsible for 6 shadows lost throughout the fight and Centurio was barely able to hit me as well. Even still, got nailed with silence and it lasted awhile (no echo drops). Finally killed the NM deep into the red. Got a shaman cloak drop and stonega III. :)
Right after killing it the ??? spawned there in that room...Lucky day.
I headed off to spawn the NM...still without echo drops. I get there kill the pld antican and build up some tp on him. Recast utsu...ready to go, popped the NM...it used mighty strikes about 50%. None of the hits got through shadows. At about 25% I'm thinking I have this one in the bag. Then it used Jamming Wave...I died one WS away from killing it...2 hours later I finally find another tag and head to Rabao for echo drops and the one charge left on my tactics pearl in MH. Get in and the ??? isn't there for spawn...When it finally returned killed the pld and put up RR, fresh shadows and called NPC...taking no chances this time. Fight went super easy this time. Silenced me twice and again mighty strikes were wasted on shadows. Only damage I took was from things that avoid shadows. Didn't even reach the yellow this time. Fought 98% full moon watersday. Dropped Mythril ore, iron ore, antican pauldron and most importantly the Tungi. 1/1
Centurio was actually a much tougher fight...72 thf can solo easily if properly prepared.

If you're on Remora and need help with the fight drop me a tell. I'd be happy to exact some more revenge on this guy. Only thing I ask is that you already have the tag.

how do i get the tag??

I just hit 60 with my Warrior couple days ago, and wanted this axe.

So I switched to my Nin/rdm so I could have sneak while seaching for the tag, and just happened to find it the first zone I checked. woot.

So I headed back to Rabo to change subs, and decided to grab a chocobo and head out to see where the ??? spawn is etc. I get there and there is a Ant pld there, so it checks ep to my Nin, I kill it. Then I was what the heck, I'll spawn the NM, so I did.

The fight was super easy, he only used the silience move once, I brought a stack of echo drops just in case, and a hp regen drink too. He did the blind move 2-3 times, and the gravity move twice, each doing about 50-80 damage, other then that he only got me down to 1 shadow, I kept making sure I'd recast Utsusemi so I'd have an extra just in case he silenced me.

He used Mighty Strikes when he was at 50% health, and during that time, he did not even get through one of my shadows lol.

So I continued to drop his health, hitting for about 20-50 a hit, and doing Blade: Jin's for about 250-270. And then my friend sent me a /tell and I told him what I was doing, he got a tele to altep and enter QuickSands through a diff zone, and I turned my back when it was at 3% till he enter fully, turned and did a blade jin for final hit, and dropped my Tungi ^^

So to sum up, he is soloable at 65 ^^, just bring your echo drops and a hp regen drink (I brought 3, used 1) and if your lucky, get the drop.

Can anyone tell me the positions of the ??? where you can obtain a tag? I've gone 2 times so far each trip returning empty handed.

I went out yesterday and duo'd this nm with a 75 Nin/thf and me as a 75 blm/rdm. This nin could have easily solo'd it, I just threw out some debuffs and a couple thunder IV's. Got the axe on the first kill and got an adaman ore. Very fun.

72 PLD,THF,BLM,WHM was complete overkill but wasnt taking anychances.
Now no real need to buy another axe till 71 ^^ since i got Francisca a few days ago aswell :)

There is no Hidden Effect on Tungi. None. Just shut up. It's not there.

The reason Tungi is awesome is its very low delay and relatively high damage. That's it. Finito.

PS. No Hidden Effect.

do you have to have it equipped as main weapon for the supposedly hidden effect? or can you use it as a secondary weapon and still get the hidden effect, if there actually is one.

Would this weapon have to be main hand to get the effect or can someone off hand it?
I have a weapon that does more dmg (Kabrakan) and I am use to the main weapon is the most dmg of the two.
Any thoughts ?

Have a few question about this axe..

Does the axe have hidden affect or is it just a nice delay? Some people said it does some said doesn't..
am i better off with DS+1?

To add to the hidden effect debate, my high-lvl JP friend, who started the game long after me, when I was relatively high level in my first job, who basically kept treating me like her personal mentor, and who has since shot right past me both in levelled jobs and in gil, (this girl farmed martial slacks and traveller's mantle for about 2 months, STRAIGHT, literally she did nothing else!) anyways, her JP LS seems to have either a theory or fact, I don't know which, about Tungi's hidden effect. (looooong sentence, sorry)
From what she tells me, the hidden effect is or may be immediate double-attack after every ws.
I don't know for certain as I don't have this yet, in fact reading this forum to find out how to get it, as my war and rng are high enough to use and bst is one level away. But if anyone would care to check this and try to verify.

I'm 0/2 on this bitch... I duoed this thing as a WAR60/NIN30, with a BLM73/WHM36. Pretty easy, and dropped Adaman Ore.

Like many others have said : 1/3

first 2 times had TH1 and my uber nin friend helping. Dropped various ores, no Tungi. After getting tag #3, I warped to jeuno and decided to shout for a high lvl THF to bring their TH influence. Duno if it was TH2 or the 3rd-time-charm, but got Tungi.

I highly suggest recruiting a high lvl THF/nin to come kill this thing for you. Just buy them some echo drops and tell them they can get all other drops including adaman ores, that tends to seal their assistance.

Couple notes : The ??? tag does NOT respawn instantly. Im sure of it. It's more of a 2 hour respawn. Think of the tag as the NM, rather than the antican. If youre facing competition it's like mental torture cuz you have no idea if the other guy got it and you're wasting your time still looking for it.

This NM is prety unimpressive vs a 70+ nin or /nin. No need for a party of 70's, hes {too weak}.

I'm went as 60 WAR / 16 THF, In an alliance I had 2 PLD's, a BLM, RDM, MNK, WAR, and another mage. But most importantly a 63 THF.

I find that Treasure Hunter 1 and 2 does help. Being 1/1 is very very very lucky. So I do recommend having a THF.

I had a great time trying to get this Axe. The Kabraken's and Wrath are just too much for me to afford.... and the Tungi is a great substitute.

Kab's as of this date has reached over 1 mil in gil.

The Tungi as of this date cost me 14 lives.
