The knife is far from pointless.After you steal it from Brigandish Blade ,or atleast try to, and kill him off you trade the knife to another ??? in the same room for a chance at a Bartholomew's Knife. http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/itemdb/3782

I have a Buccaneer´s Knife from a friend. Do i have to kill BB to trade it to those ??? or is the ??? always there?

True, but not an entirely accurate answer. What the knife does is remove the invincible effect on BB. It is not necessarily the weapon required to kill him. I've done this many times via hitting him with the knife for 0dmg in main hand then an axe on my offhand kills him as war/nin (I have low dagger skill but a ton of +accuracy). If our sky alliance has no THF in it but sub THF someone will steal for the knife then trade it to me.
ok guys listen this is the best way to kill him.
get your thieves to have a steal order.
1. All thieves finish stealing immediately after pop (Chain steal & hope that someone gets it)
2. Keep fighting & every 5 minutes cycle through the steal chain (Maybe you can do this once)
3. Whoever steals the knife must equip it immediately & you will win once BB's HP is @1 & the thief takes the last strike.

LOL :( went to go this an my steal failed. can someone help me out on why steal fails 9/10 times i use it.

This knife is the only thing that can kill Brigandish Blade. Other stuff drops him to like 1% hp, but then he goes Invincible to all but the knife. Hint: Take a THF...you need to Steal it from him anyways...

MysteryTour says you actually need to steal from this guy to get the knife.
