Well, I'm PLD75 with a broken Subduer, but my 61~soon to be 62Drk needed a greatsword to go with my V scythe, so this is the best one i could find in the level range. So me as PLD75/RDM37 and my 63Drg/thf friend decided to give it a try.

Over the course of 8 Quus we skilled up on crabs and ghosts, then on Quus #9 he finally popped. i then flashed the Cancer and ran to the zone with 5 other crabs behind me and luckily no ghosts.
I had the drg poke the crab after i zoned to make sure it didnlt go anywhere, zoned back in, Stoneskin + Phalanx and flashed it off him and fought at the zone. As i watched his penta hit for 200 rather than the 600 it was doing to robber crabs i decided to invite a thf that was near by skill upping as well.
Even then it was a rough fight that would have been a wipe if not for Chivalry, this crab has waaay to much defense and hp to try and duo like this. But when it died we got 3109g and i am now 1/9 on pop, and 1/1 on the drop. Spirits within is your friend in this fight, 300TP plus self curebomb = ~590 damage.

After testing the greatsword on the lizards in zone the proc was about 1/8-1/12 swings for 39-49 damage additional. I'm looking forward to getting 62 on Drk.

I used to camp this thing about 6 months ago and i recently came back from a break so i figured I would try this jerk of an NM again.

All in all I think I got Cancer to spawn 6 times out of trading atleast 72 Quus.

So glad to finally have this and the A L'otrance Scythe. Now I just need to get my 61 DRK to 62 >.<;

Finishing AF and getting a Pat helm woulnd be a bad idea either lol

Well, I've decided to become hellbent now on accquiring this GS but it looks like it'll take a while. For those of you that may become interested on hunting I'll list my results as they come along.

As someone posted before me, 18 min seems to be about how long each of the ??? takes to spawn. Fairly sure as I never saw it re-appear in 15 min flat. Secondly, you can solo Cancer on some jobs. Frankly I'd say any job with 2 sets of shadows and some form of decent healing can probably do it in an ideal condition as this thing is a crab; it's rather slow in attacking and has 1 AoE move (Bubble Shower). Also has occasional "Enwater" effect (15-27 damage to me). Frankly as a 75 BST/WHM I took around 4 Courier Carries and a few nearby lizards to stall in between recast downtime.

First Pop: 1/48 for Spawning

Second Pop: 1/37 for Spawning

Total Spawns: 3/88
Mean Spawn Rate: 1/29.3
My Drop Rate: 1/3

Hurrah!!! Madness I tell you. Would like to note the third crab was a bit tougher than the other ones, seemed to take 6 crabs to kill him off. Yipee DRK Time - good luck to those trying to farm this, it's a pain but hang in there and...

got some fishies me 75NIN 73WHM 73RNG whm sneaked me i pop NQ crab. seconf time cancer pops yey i voke pull run zone him RNG shadowbinds. this things acc weel he didnt have any at first was gettin like 1/20 hits on me then like 15%hp he sudenly gets 100% acc o_O np pwn him got drop mwhahahaa

Ok this is just rediculous 5/135 on poping him
0/3 on drop killed once by guivre while charming cactuars and once by air ele combo with air faild cactuar charm its just not worth the heart break and time spent... I mean come on SE needs to fix this drop rate for such a weak GS I'm just so damn irratated.

20 Quus l8r and i stil cant get Cancer to pop ;.; grrrr so far been there with SMN70 and 75 RDM72, then PLD71 and RDM70, im DRK62 and it wont pop *sighs* i'll get it one day!

Ok, for all those sayin they soloed this, where do u pull it to and how >< i just popped it then realized i was surrouned by haunts and such lol
I tried to sleep it with sleep bolts(im a thf), in the end i aggro'd all the haunts and crabs and had to zone x.x so where do u guys pull it to? and how c.c

Just got this sword, and wow, i've never hit harder as a PLD, the swords great, i really like it, also if you google the sword, you find out its sir lancelot's sword, which is pretttyyyy cool ^^

You dont have to kill them, you can either run the risk of Guivre popping on you and camp behind the rocks near the "???" or just have a smn sneak up and carby pull ^^

Wow, tried this just now, the crab didn't pop once. I in total used about, almost 2 stacks of quus, hoping to try this one again. Just hope it drops on first lol

Who is that sexy guy? -.o

I tried for over a month before I got mine. When it finally did drop after having killed Cancer 19 times, I did, in fact, have a Thf with THII in my party. Whereas many times before I did not. I guess my point is: It sure can't hurt. And with only around a 5% drop rate you need all the help you can get! Good luck! And just remember the more hardships you go through to get it, the sweeter it is when you finally do.

FINALLY GOT IT!! As far as I know I'm one of only 3 people on my server (CAITSITH Including Sorrower =) that have it.

Stats from my hunt are:

My Drop Rate = 1/19 (5.26%)

Skillup Levels obtained (Just me): 178 (on 3 weapons)

Number of Coffer keys that dropped during the hunts: 63

Don't let this discourage you though, this is a awesome sword and it looks amazing.

Got mine the other day :D
Had about 15 people (few 50s, lots of 60s, and a few between 60-65). Started to pop and skill(he wasn't showing his face. And we almost decided to quit when it poped. Dropped GS first run. Stay away from the ledge when fighting it. If you get yellow HP you will get haunt aggro.

Questions for you= Can this take me to balmung? and i have only seen one other person on my server. Why dont people go get it :D (i feel special)

I got this the other night and he DOES NOT need to be carby pulled. You need to camp the other side of the rocks where the ??? pops. To get there go straight until u can make a left or go straight, make the left...then take the next left as it comes up, you shall find yourself right behind the rocks. There is only 1 haunt that pops there. His respawn is the same as the ??? timer so you should kill the haunt first then go pop the ??? to ensure the haunt doesnt add to the crab. Goodluck with drop. I've killed him 4 times. Got the drop only the first time ive fought him. He doesn't like magic but don't go nuts with it, its extremely easy to take hate away with a couple of spells cast on him. Goodluck! ^^

can a level 61 static party take this mob out just wonder my drk and pld in my static are really wanting to kill this mob. i'm the leader of static so i'm asking "Is it possible" or wait till atleast 63

Did this this weekend.

Our NIN rarely took a hit so it was easy, just took a few mins to kill it. I did around 30-35 per swing, and my WS like 1-200 tops.

I recomend that you either bring a 65+ PLD or a level 60:ish NIN. A couple of healers and one or two blms to actually make any damage on the thing. He is very resistant with melee attacks.

I camped this Nm today. We traded 12 times to ???. cancer spawned once of 12 times. And of course he didnt drop anything. We took him with a party of 60+. Just let the pld or nin keep hate and you will take him Easy but slow^^

my opinium is that this aint worth it.
